White Subway Tile

We are going with classic white subway tile for our kitchen remodel. I just love how it looks. If any of you have it, please let me know what brand you went with. Beveled, glossy, or matte, if you have it I'd love to see it. I've seen some at Home Depot, but wasn't too sure about it. I appreciate your feedback.

We have used the gloss white Daltile brand subway tile from Home Depot & it looks great and is inexpensive...also comes with "built-in" spacers on the edges which made for easy installation.

Daltile matte Arctic white. They don't catty the color in home depot but you can order it online there

megtannahill - thank you! It's 1in unglazed porcelain hex tile with white and two shades of grey (no black) so it has a matte finish. We have black and white hex tile in our bathroom but like you we felt the contrast was too harsh for our smallish kitchen. The tile is from Heritage Tile/Subway Mosaics. We laid out the design and the made the sheets for us. Dal Tile offers similar colors and finish but the edges are quite as rectified and they only offer solid color fields. This isn't bad if you just want to do a border but if you want a full on mosaic you're probably better off getting someone to make it for you than go through the madness of popping out all the tiles as you go. If you do want to go the custom route they can make about anything you want at Heritage Tile or they have a lot of predesigned options. M G - that looks great! I would see a soft white with a satin finish with a light grey grout (that matches the color in the counters) looking very nice in there. If you don't need trim pieces Terra Verre has a white subway tile with nice edges that could look good in your kitchen.

Smart thinking on your part since there are more hues of white than any other color. And boy can that bite you if you bring two whites with different hues togeather. Ask installer if they have a scrap of quartz from your counter. With scrap in hand,go to tile shop where you can lay various tile and grout on quartz. Without a piece of original quartz,your best option is see if the tile shop will loan a rear seat load of samples to bring home. I reccomend this wherther you go with white or colored back splash. It's weird how a color can change when another color is brought alongside. Since colors aren't true on a computer screen,I didn't go to your link to make reccomendations. Also take into consideration,it's easier to atain good results by combining complementary colors than harmonizing colors when both have to be chosen without side by side trial. .

If trim in MBr doesn't work, try White Dove. Without seeing the tile in person I can't advise as to whether it will work. I like to prime and paint a piece of trim (about 12" or so) so I can get a good idea of the color and carry it around with me. White Dove is a no, go with a white that doesn't have obvious tones jumping out at you (yellow, pink) when you compare the tile and paint side by side. Again, working up a trim sample is always better than choosing off the paint chip. Try Cotton Balls (OC 122), Cloud White (OC-130), or Decorators White

Amy Glasscock, yes, I have samples of both, and I can go to Lowe's today and get whatever they have. Do you know if the Daltile told by tile stores and the Daltile sold by Lowes or Home Depot are different? I know many products are a different quality in HD/Lowes but though tile would be the same but maybe not. Becky H, the Cloe is beautiful as is your quartz, I'm sure your kitchen will be beautiful. BeverlyFLADeziner, I had known that at one point but had forgotten so thank you for reminding me. Lyn Nielson, good advice about the dye lot, I will do that. I'm kind of dreading those things that I don't notice now but will eventually and once I see it, I can't unsee it and it will bug me! Thank you all for taking the time to reply. We went with white beveled subway, Olympia Tile Chess Collection. It has Bright White grout but I think we are going to change the grout to a light grey for more of a classic look and to match the Super White counters.

The second photo is of the tiles before grout giving the appearance of a grey grout look:

Like magsnj we went with Daltile matte Arctic White. We bought it at the Daltile warehouse locally. We paid approx. $350 for the tile and the grout. The grout we used was Fusion in Alabaster. Together the material was very reasonably priced.

The tile works perfectly with the color scheme of the total kitchen. We wanted a traditional look that blended with our 1925 home. Our galley kitchen back spash is 12.5 feet on the long wall and 6.5 feet on the other wall (range and fridge wall).

Our cabinets are painted off white "Cotton" by Rhodda Paint. It is similar to Alabaster by SW. A creamy white with a touch of cool, not yellowy at all. Our counters are Vicostone "Tobacco", a taupe, cream with grey and black veining with garnet flecks. Floor is white oak with a golden brown stain. The tile looks great. We are very happy with our choice! We didn't want a glossy tile because the house next door is white and it reflects into our kitchen. I prefer a soft glow.

xc60 Your kitchen is lovely! Thanks for posting photos of your gorgeous beveled subway tile. I love your counters!! We are doing carrara, so a light grey grout is a possible choice for us.

NWRain-Gal Your kitchen looks fabulous! I love your subway tile. I just think it is the best choice for a backsplash in any kitchen. It gives the counters center stage.
