Baked the big chocolate chip cookie recipe

Well, today I baked that recipe someone (can't remember who) here posted for the single, big chocolate chip cookie to take to my DDs tomorrow. I promised it for this trip and we have used it to bribe 3 1/2 year old grandson to let her trim his fingernails.

Then it looked so good I baked one for us. It is good, and it is soooo easy to make. I will use this recipe again. It turned out best in my tart pan, but if I had a pizza pan I would use it for this cookie.

Next time I make one for just us, I will add nuts. GS doesn't like nuts in his cookies at this point.

I always use the recipe printed on the Toll House choc chip package. Makes a batch of several dozen, not one big cookie. Fine with me. Another recipe from the box is for Fettucinne Alfredo. If they ever change those boxes I'm sunk.

I use the Toll House recipe always also, but the word was if you want to make one huge cookie that this posted recipe cooks evenly in the center and the edges, unlike other recipes.

Brown Sugar Chocolate Chip Cookies - Sol 2Â½ cups AP flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature 2 cups light brown sugar, packed 2 large eggs 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips Â½ cup chopped walnuts, optional Whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Lizbeth, you are more than welcome. I hope this recipe is the "magic" one for you, but even if it's not, well, they're still cookies and how can that be bad? :-) plllog, normally I use butter, but this one called for half butter, half shortening. Normally I'd ignore that and use butter, but Grandma's Chewy Molasses cookies require half shortening or they don't turn out right, so I followed the recipe and used half shortening/half butter. I didn't flatten them at all, left them just as they came out of the cookie scoop, they would have been thin and crisp if I'd have flattened them, I think. I always use cane sugar, gave up beet sugar (although it's local and that hurt me) because of the GMOs. I also liked the little bit of flavor from the almond extract. I'm not a huge fan of CC cookies, but I used extra dark chips and they were better, plus the half-and-half ratio of brown sugar and white sugar helped keep them chewy. And, as you noted, I was very careful to not overbake, that's the most common reason cookies don't stay chewy. Ricky, those look pretty darned good. Mine are all gone, I suppose I should make some more..... Sheila, like you I always added about 1/4 cup of flour to the Toll House Cookie recipe on the back of the chocolate chip bag. This is what I used to make at the restaurant where I worked: 1 cup butter 3/4 cup sugar (1 cup if using oatmeal instead of granola) 1 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 2-1/2 cups sifted A/P flour 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp baking soda 2 cups granola (plain or with coconut) 1 cup chocolate chips Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy; add eggs, and beat thoroughly. Sift flour with salt and soda. Stir into butter mixture, add granola and chocolate chips. Drop from a teaspoon about 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375°F for 10 to 12 minutes, or until completely browned. Using granola instead instead of oats makes the cookies crunchy instead of soft, and so if you like crisp cookies, this is a good substitution. You can use oatmeal instead of granola, but you will have to use 1 cup of sugar instead of 3/4 cup. I would multiply this recipe by four or six when making it for the restaurant, and I mixed the dough in a Hobart machine. I also tended to add coconut if the granola did not have any. Granola with almonds is good in this also.

So interesting how a little bit of this or that...or none at all...can make a difference. Years ago I had a request to make a lot of decorated sugar cookies for an event. I was so frustrated because my TNT recipe was NOT working. The cookies were spreading like crazy in the oven. I was pretty frustrated since any/all advice I got from those I thought could help were all tips I already knew. I'd even sent an email to Shirley Corriher. Plus, I'd made the cookies a zillion times. Finally, a caterer I knew asked about my baking sheets. I'd bought those insulated "air-bake" cookie sheets and was using them. Never even thought about that and no one else had asked. She told me to go back to my faithful non-insulated, heavy-duty aluminum pans. She said the insulated sheets heat more slowly giving the cookies more time to spread. Problem solved! I've since had others tell me they don't have the spread problem with their insulated sheets. IDK...could be it was just the brand I'd bought but they're long gone.

When I was in college, mother would send me a care pkg in a shoebox. Toll House chocolate chip cookies and banana bread!

That was way back in the late 50's.

Big Big Cookie
Cream together:
1/2 c butter, melted and cooled
1/2 c light brown sugar, packed
1/2 c white sugar

Stir in and mix well:
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg

Combine:
1 1/2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
And mix into batter.

Fold in 1/2 c chocolate chips.

Place a sheet of foil on a pizza pan, large tart pan, or large cookie sheet or baking pan. Dump the batter into the center and pat into a 9 inch, evenly flat cookie. It will spread to 11 inches as it bakes.

Bake in a 350 degrees pre heated oven for 13-16 minutes (mine baked 19 minutes). Let cool completely on the pan. Lift from the pan by lifting the foil.

The first one I baked only 16 minutes, and it was softer than the one I baked 19 minutes. It is not crispy, and it tastes quite like the Toll House recipe.

I made one today. Didn't have any chocolate chips in the house, so I used raisins and walnuts.

I made it last night because I had a hankering for something sweet. It is delicious! It should last me several day. I used a pizza pan.

I copied this recipe too as my kids love seeing those "cookie cakes" at the bakery, but we never buy them. Thanks Sheliajoyce!

Last time i made cookies, I didn't feel like making individual ones, so I made a double batch and spread the dough into a 9X13 pan (lasagna pan). I had to cook about 10-12 minutes longer for the center to be done. Tasted like cookies, but texture of brownies. My husband who is not normally huge on sweets-LOVED them!
