I love the curtains! I have swag type curtains like that myself, but the panel part is a cream sheer.

The whole room looks great.

Maybe you could get a floral centerpiece with lot's of greenery and some blue accent flowers, to draw the blue into another area of the room? And some colors from your lovely upholstery on the chairs?

I really love your dining room and think the drapes are lovely in there. Instead of a centerpiece with blue flowers, how about a large blue & white pottery bowl to echo your plates filled with greenery ~and perhaps cream colored flowers?

Sorry - I can't stop looking at your blue & white plates on the wall. Too pretty & just what I think my DR could use. That looks so sharp!

Thank you all so much for your suggestions and kind words. I took another picture to enable you all to see the curtains better. The sun was making it difficult earlier. I replaced the center piece with a planter and dried flowers from the other room.

I think those curtains are gorgeous and I would definitely leave the swag on. I love the blue plates with the original fabric on the chairs and I love the red on the walls. I'm honestly not liking all three of these things together. I also think the rug matches the red paint and the blue plates, but not the curtains. It looks like there's a 2nd color in the curtains? Is it red? If it were me, I would pick the element I liked most about the room (curtains, red walls, blue plates) and work from there. Of course, everyone else seems to love it so far, so this is just my opinion :)

Laurie, I was just waiting for someone else to speak up. I didn't want to sound negative, because that's not my intention at all. BUT, something's not hitting me right either. I love the red walls and the plate collection, I definitely would not change that. That works very well with the rug. I can't decide what is off for me, the drapes or the fabric on the chairs. I do like the drapes better after seeing that last pic, I can see the fabric a bit closer up. It may be that the fabric on the chairs is looking too light for me. It's so hard to tell from a computer monitor.

I do think you have a beautiful room and will tweak it just right.

The mirror and plates are a beautiful focal point and I definitely would not change that.

I absolutely love all of the elements in your room. But, you mentioned making the plates, drapes and rug work together. I don't think that would be a problem at all if you would consider repainting the walls. Otherwise, just taking the beautiful blue plates out of the picture ties things together imo.

Thank you all! I appreciate you speaking up. It is the same for me. I love everything...just not everything together. I switched out the toile on the chairs because I had had it for 10 years and the chairs needed some more padding. It was an easy thing to do myself so if I have to change something, I would love if it had to be that. Quick and inexpensive. We only plan to be in this house about another year so I don't want to do anything too drastic.

I think the window treatments read neutral enough and look nice in the room. Love the new fabric on your chairs, too, and see that you did the wall chairs in a complimentary fabric. Nice. The rug looks like it pulls from the blue and red if I'm seeing things correctly.

I see no problem with keeping what you want in the room. I like different colors as it makes a room look less "serious" IMO. What you might think of doing is changing out the four smaller plates on the outside of your grouping to ones of the same size and style but with more of the greens in them.

I also think the two pictures of the dogs might be moved to the hall wall between the two doors. I think with the rest of what's going on in the room, the frames look a little too ornate with the simple chandelier. Then you could replace with something more simple that ties the drapes in even more.

Yep, I think that if you recover the chairs with a blue and white fabric to echo the plates, it would be lovely. Perhaps a tiny blue and white check. Love, love, love the blue & white planter, but the arrangement in it looks too blah to my eyes. It's Summer and I think some bright white (& red?) flowers with some greenery (tiny ivy?) would look very fresh and pretty there.
