Tuesday Morning and iron skillets

On the Cooking Forum, someone was recommending the de Buyer mineral skillets on discount at Tuesday Morning. I guess the folks at the cooking forum like this brand of iron pan. So I bought two sizes for our son and his fiance who love to cook. They are made in France, and are half price. They need to be seasoned, cannot be put in the dish washer, and are treated just like a cast iron pan. Just in case any of you want to try them. I bought a 7 inch and 10 inch pan.

I never go in Tuesday Morning. Too much junk. I remember one year MIL bought all her Christmas gifts at TM. That year she gave me a junky cutting board that warped and I threw out. These skillets sound good, however. I may dare enter their store.

We have a wonderful Tues Morning here we go all the time and I get the most amazing stuff for so reasonable. I have bought many very nice cooking items there for way below the price anywhere else. I have been getting some very very nice name brand shoes recently there too. They have very high end purses too have not needed to buy one but I really like several I have seen.
For my flannel sheets it is the place to go the best quality I have found and the lowest price.

My husband bought a ton of shirts and various clothing items back when they had the half off sale for clearance items. He got several name brand cashmere sweaters for under $5! He went crazy LOL

My problem is I can never leave there with out a sack full of stuff!

Since we're discussing about SS pots & pans.... If you own SS pots & pans, I hope you have a bottle of Bar Keepers Friend for cleaning them. It cleans your SS pots & pans so well that they look new. Just dab a little and scrub it with a Dobie cleaning pad or similar. It costs much less than many SS cleaners. I use the powder bottle that resembles the Comet except it's yellow. It's less the $3 at Walmart in the cleaning product isle. I once brought my knives to cut up boxes and boxed of bananas for a community activity. By the time I got home, the knives had stained. I simply used BKF to clean off the stain. They looked as if never had happened. Basically, BKF works on all SS products, even on SS kitchen sinks. Warning: If you have granite countertops, be careful not to get on its surface. BKF is acidic and can ruin granite or any stone surface. If it gets on it, wipe off immediately. What taco style are you looking for? The crispy folded shells? Corn? We are old school and like traditional...I just heat up my cast iron stove-top griddle and lay out 4-6 white corn tortillas and lightly toast and flip a few times, no added oil, flop them into a bowl or basket lined with a clean kitchen towel, cover, then toast another batch...then to the table for all the fixin's a-la-cart. For crisp shells you could use your oven racks. Rub a bit of oil, I use avocado oil,, and lay them on what works best for your oven... My nephews always want the crips shells. (at my MIL's i roll a bit of foil on the rack tines, then drape...her oven is a bit filthy)

I also think the canned biscuits taste oddly "canned", but there are some frozen biscuits available that passes my quality control. Yeah, I'm picky and far prefer my homemade ones, and they don't really take much time, but I'm also not a morning person and when Elery's grandsons are here and want biscuits and gravy for breakfast, well, out come the frozen biscuits. Gardengal, we also had chicken ala king over biscuits, but Grandma just called it "chicken and biscuits". She also baked biscuits on top of a dutch oven full of beef stew (or rabbit or squirrel or venison or whatever), and then you scooped it onto your plate with the biscuit on the bottom and stew on the top. I loved 'em then, still do. Elery, however, doesn't like "pot pie" of any type, or anything that resembles them. He also doesn't like biscuits and gravy. Most of what I know about making pizzas I learned from the Pizza Making Forum. The people there are very helpful, and I have gotten quick responses to my questions. A lot of the members have their own pizza restaurants or have previously owned them. When in Cathedral City, I use our Ooni oven to make pizza, and it bakes in 90 seconds. I've made several of my own Youtube videos showing how to make pizza. I have also learned from Vito Lacopelli, and he makes better videos than Kenji that are more professional. I also prefer Vito's recipes, and I've made both. In L.A. I sometimes use a 14" diameter cast iron Camp Chef pizza pan: It's important to heat the pan before adding the pizza dough, and this is a bit tricky, but I add the toppings after I have put the dough onto the hot pan, and this has to be done quickly. More often I just put the dough on an aluminum pizza peel, and I can make a 16" diameter pizza this way, baking it on my pizza stone. My oven here only gets to 550°, but the Ooni oven will get to over 950°, which is why it bakes so quickly. If I want to make a Neapolitan style pizza here in L.A., I bake it in our Big Green Egg, which has its own pizza stone. The BGE will get above 1100°, but I try to keep it down to 930° for pizza. I don't do this unless I am having a pizza party with quite a few people, and that has not happened in quite a while.

That is a shame, at the one near me, they are super friendly. In fact the manager always comes to ask how my mother is doing, she is from the same area of Louisiana as me. It always surprises me that she remembers us so well. That kind of thing makes me want to shop there.

Ours is junky looking too. You have to be selective. My sister says the best Egyptian cotton towels she ever got were from Tuesday Morning. I got some great Isotoner slippers there not long ago.

It's a good thing our Tuesday Morning's on the other side of town or I'd move in and be broke. In fact, when we lived in Pinellas Co. we had one within walking distance. If I was MIA, Harry knew where I was. ;-) Love their kitchen stuff--got a Wustoff knife there for a fraction of what the internet price was. I've seen Waterford glassware but sure don't need that. I found truffle oil once. All kinds of stuff. It's a neat store!

Sunny, it is a discount store. But it is an odd looking store too. You can buy toys, books, linens, paper cocktail napkins, slippers, closet stuff, serving stuff, patio furniture, pillows, holiday decor, cooking things. Just a little of this and that. You have to like bargain hunting as the store is not well maintained nor is it attractive.

I guess it must be regional but every one I have gone to in the various states I have lived in were all very nice stores and well maintained. Very strange to hear that is not the case else where.
Towels and sheets and bedding sets are all very high quality. The luggage there is too. I have bought some really beautiful rugs there. I am now glad the ones here are so good. I think they have a website.
