With the engine idling, The throttle plate is just about closed and most of the fuel is delivered through the carburetor idle circuit. At high speed the throttle plate has opened only slightly and some fuel is still delivered through the idle circuit. Some fuel is starting to be delivered through the main fuel circuit. When a load is delivered, the governor further opens the throttle plate to maintain rpm. In this position, most of the fuel is now coming from the main circuit. The surging occurs when the idle circuit is not able to deliver enought fuel. The engine wants to die - but the governer senses the rpm drop and opens the throttle plate - receiving additional fuel from the main circuit. The engine speeds up and then the governor closes the throttle plate. If your carburetor is equipped with a Idle adjustment screw, open it about 1/8 of a turn and see what happens. If there is no idle adjustment screw, the internal idle passages are partially blocked with fuel varnish or perhaps dirt. Sometimes it is hard to clean this with carburetor spray cleaner unless the carburetor is disassembled. As previously suggested - changing the fuel filter - if equipped - may help in preventing recurrance. Be careful with old fuel hoses as some rubber may crumlble on the inside of the line and enter your carburetor.

**I need to know what to do about this stituation, and Im i going to still have to pay?** Short answer if all things add up, no. **I sent in the form stating i sold my car** That puts you in the clear. **Im thinking the Dmv never recieved the paper.** Think again, if they haven't sent you another registration form since, they got it. Simple enough to confirm. Call them up and ask. Untill a new owner transfers title, DMV can't update their info any further so your name is still the last listed owner. When they got your form, they flagged it noting you no longer have the vehicle. That does not remove your name from the list. With any proof at all that you sold the vehicle, you don't owe anything. The towing company can sell the car to recover their alledged loss. It can be retitled via the 'lost title' process. That will require a signature from you . That's about it. The only risk to you as the last listed owner would be if some d*ck head alledges they were injured in an accident with this car. They may sue you because you're the one they can find. Waste of time on their part if you notified DMV. That might require you hire a lawyer to make sure all the paper work they throw at you is processed properly. That would be as far as it goes. Been there, done that.

SUCCESS WITH OLD STALE GROUT. I recently tiled a small extension to floor tiles that were laid 25 years ago with 10mm gaps between .... and with tongue in cheek experimented with an old bag of grout of the same vintage, which had neither been sealed or in any way protected from the ravages of time and which was both powdery and clumpy. The colour had not changed and was irreplaceable with colours of grout currently on the market. So I gave it a go with a small sample! I got what I expected. It didn't work! Not one to accept all of the current wisdom and expert opinion at face value (most of which I believe comes from those with vested interests) I did what I normally do when being told "it can't be done!"..... Obviously the problem was lack of adhesion so I believed it might be possible to mix the old grout in another readily available cement additive ..... BONDCRETE which I found many years ago also had "waterproofing and sealing properties" if painted on top of cement and or cement products ..........and considered that it may be possible to mix some of the old grout with Bondcrete, that could be painted over a normal clean cement base. I decided to fill the 10mm gaps with normal builders cement which was shaped before setting to form a base over which I would then paint my concoction of old grout and Bondcrete mix. It worked perfectly with only one coat painted over the concrete, you could not distinguish between the original grout laid so long ago. A scratch test with a screwdriver the following morning showed no signs of weakness of the mixture. However for more strength and depth of colour maybe 1 or 2 more coats may be useful. Caution:As Bondcrete is the adhesion medium I used, it is important to ensure that its effectiveness in not diluted by adding too much grout or water. Suggested Ingredients: 10 Parts Bondcrete to 1 part grout plus a small amount of water to form a paint consistency; Method: 1. Mix small amount of water to 1 part of grout and stir well to make a thickened paste maybe to a wipped cream consistency (note that even old clumpy grout can be crushed to powder form and re-used) Add one part of "grout paste" to 10 parts of Bondcrete and mix well to a paintable consistency. You can vary the parts of Bondcrete more or less to suit. Paint onto respective clean concrete surface and allow to dry overnight. Paint additional coats if necessary to achieve required depth of colour. You may need to increase grout to Bondcrete mix by experimentation to obtain greater depth of colour. Ensure removal of excess paint from overlapping surfaces before it dries. Note well: For small gaps between tiles It may be worhwhile, as a suggestion only, that you experiment with filling the gap with a fine mixture cement first and wipe it clean to a depth that when dry you can simply paint over it. This medium worked for me and I make no assertions to its success or otherwise of its use by any other persons or entity. As long as you have a fuel filter you don't have to worry about sediment in the tank. There's going to be stuff in there, just the way vehicles are designed stuff will get in there. And year old gas is no problem. It has evaporated some in that time but the gas is fine. That's an old wives' tale about "old gas". Contaminated is different but a few years on the gas is no problem. A good mechanic is priceless. And honest ones are so hard to find. It's sad. I'm having troubles with my van again... Thought it was the brakes so I gave up and bought another one. Now I think it's a wheel bearing and probably the same one I had replaced last year. So I'll see if it's under warranty and get it fixed and use it for a while and maybe sell it. I needed a more reliable vehicle I guess so it was really something I needed to do. Just wasn't a great time, but is it ever? And I think I got a pretty good deal on it so I think I made the right decision all in all. I can imagine how it was to not have wheels for so long. Just the couple days I was without drove (no pun intended) me crazy! (Yeah, Joyful, I know, it's a short trip!) So even though I didn't dare drive it the one day, I couldn't stand it the next and took it out anyway to car shop. And I did chuckle at myself. The one evening I sat here and knew I didn't NEED to or even WANT to go anywhere... but the thought that I COULDN"T just bugged me! It's one of those things I guess. My old GF said it was a guy thing I think it was an independence thing.
