I finally have my car running again....! ! ! ! !

Jeff's girlfriend's bro in law has his own business as a mechanic. I believe she mention him early on in this mess with my car. But I guess no one listened to her.

Anyway he came over Friday afternoon, looked at it, agreed that the engine we had someone else put in wasn't any good. That person messed around so long in getting it in and getting everything done. That when we finally figured out that the reason it wasn't running right was because the engine wasn't good, it was three day past the 30 day warranty. His parents are good friends of ours or we probably would have taken it to small claims or something. He should have gotten it done a lot quicker than he did.

Anyway Barb's bro in law got the engine over the weekend. Showed up here on Monday, with everything he needed. Got right busy. He came back yesterday morning finished up and cleaned everything up , packed all of his stuff back into his truck and was ready to go before 11:00am.

It runs like a new car.

I sure hope it keeps running like that. Until someday when we can once again afford to buy another one.

So once again (after 9 months of not having a car) I have wheels....

NOW....If I could just afford gas for it...LOL

At least you know you CAN go somewhere if you want/need to. I'm glad you have your wheels back Patti. I've been using a couple of tips about getting the most out of your gas. When you fill the tank, do it on the slowest speed. Get gas early in the morning when it's still cool. There aren't so many air bubbles/gas fumes mixed in with it. Also don't get gas if there's a transport there filling their holding tanks. It stirs up all the sediment in from the 'bottom of the barrell'. Also, for your own info, stop the filling at 10 gallons, and see if the total money is exactly 10x's the price per gallon. I've heard some of stations are cheating the customer.

Thanks everyone. Those ducks are special. My Mom bought the mother and 3 duckings because she had 3 kids. Then she decided she should have bought more of the ducklings to represent her 6 grandchildren. My daughter and I went back tot he store she got them in and found 6 more and gave them to her. That garden is full of the perennials that where in her garden and annuals from ther flowers that she had there. We decided that we shouldn't leave them in her apt garden after she passed away, she would want me, the gardener to have them. Will post more pics of that garden in another thread. Fran

I really know nothing about these machines but I will say I would think that you should be able to set any spin speed on the Normal cycle anyway. With towels, jeans, sheets you need a fast spin. I would call them and ask about this.

Its not a computer problem? or a short? My DS bought an old junker for work, paid very little for it but wants to drive it while he is looking for a good car. He is a mechanic, wish he was close enough to peek at it for you Patti! The car DS drives is really a junker like I said. He took it into the shop cause it was missing so bad, it didn't die tho. All he did was disconnect the computer, to put another one in and it runs like a top. He never did get another computer for it. But his isn't worth sticking much money into. I hope yours is an easy fix! Maybe something didn't get connected just right after you had it repaired?

oh i could have used a mechanic like that! i can't tell you how much it cost to try and fix a car fil fawned off on us, in trade for our working one!

I know you're glad to be on wheels.
It costs so much to fix cars these days.
Seems nothing is less than $500, even if it seems simple.
Really great guy. Fix him a nice meal or something.

You have to have given a huge sigh of relief to have wheels again. I don't see how you stood being dependent on others for so long. Even though the price of gasoline might prevent you from doing all the driving you might want to do, at least now you know you CAN go if you need to.

There is nothing in the world like a competent mechanic. We found two brothers who have been servicing our cars for years, they are very honest, do good work, even hand-crafted a part for our 18 year old Sable when it "died" this past winter. They got it running again.

I bet you feel free again! I couldn't drive my car for several weeks after my surgery and it was so nice when I could drive again and not have to depend on someone else taking me!

So, where was the first place you drove?

LOL...where was the first place I went....to the bank...to see if I could get a loan for gasoline.....

just kidding...I did go to the bank though to see how much money I had left..Not as much as I'd hoped...so I went home...

I had 3/4 of a tank of gas still in it..Wondered if it would still be good...it's been in there nearly a year. But it was running good...

I bet I only paid about 2.50 a gallon for it.

Patti, we had a motor rebuilt for Jammer's Ford Ranger. He installed it himself, but the company that rebuilt the motor told him to make sure to drain all the gas and replace with new before running it. They said there could be trash in the gas. His truck sat for longer than a year. It was probably more like 3 years. So that probably made a big difference.

I would think that the mechanic who replaced the engine would have taken care of the gas if it needed to be drained.

As long as you have a fuel filter you don't have to worry about sediment in the tank. There's going to be stuff in there, just the way vehicles are designed stuff will get in there. And year old gas is no problem. It has evaporated some in that time but the gas is fine. That's an old wives' tale about "old gas". Contaminated is different but a few years on the gas is no problem.

A good mechanic is priceless. And honest ones are so hard to find. It's sad.

I'm having troubles with my van again... Thought it was the brakes so I gave up and bought another one. Now I think it's a wheel bearing and probably the same one I had replaced last year. So I'll see if it's under warranty and get it fixed and use it for a while and maybe sell it. I needed a more reliable vehicle I guess so it was really something I needed to do. Just wasn't a great time, but is it ever? And I think I got a pretty good deal on it so I think I made the right decision all in all.

I can imagine how it was to not have wheels for so long. Just the couple days I was without drove (no pun intended) me crazy! (Yeah, Joyful, I know, it's a short trip!) So even though I didn't dare drive it the one day, I couldn't stand it the next and took it out anyway to car shop. And I did chuckle at myself. The one evening I sat here and knew I didn't NEED to or even WANT to go anywhere... but the thought that I COULDN"T just bugged me! It's one of those things I guess. My old GF said it was a guy thing I think it was an independence thing.
