Everything old is new again, eh palimpsist? My only worry (and it would be a VERY small one) is that dreaded bugaboo..."resale value". And if I loved it...I'd use it!

Although I tend to be a white on white on white bathroom kinda person, this color is so subtle, I can't see anyone being offended by it, I dunno.

There was a piece in Old House Journal or one of those magazines about the dreaded pink second bathroom in the writer's house, that he had never renovated. One night, fueled by a few drinks at a good party, he attacked the bathroom with a sledge hammer.

The next morning when he looked out, he realized that, although the walls had been Pepto Bismol pink, the broken up fixtures were a very subtle beige pink neutral that looked pinker because of the paint color and lighting.

Innocent Blush is not a new Kohler color. Are you saying they've just started using it again? I used it in a bathroom remodel, last house in 1993. With marble. btw, the marble was white with veining. Looks pink on my computer.

Its back in the catalogues but looks a little less saturated, at least in the pictures I have seen.

Actually, Allison, you are correct: Innocent Blush has been in the palette since 1986, when it replaced some more vibrant pinks, such as Pink Champagne( 1973-79 ) and Peachblow (1934-1973). Wild Rose (1980--) is also still available. How many pieces are actually available in any color at a given time seems to vary.

i think i prefer the blue...tho the paper pattern you show would really complement the blush very well---i think papers in general would be best with any of the colored fixtures (that might be because i really like beautiful wallpapers!)

I was at Lowe's looking for some drainage pipe (who cares, right?) and wandered through the kitchen/bath area just out of curiosity. There, prominently displayed, were Kohler fixtures in a soft gray. That was all they were showing. No white.

I had a strangely negative reaction to it -- not sure why. The gray seemed dreary rather then contemporary to me, which I expect was the desired effect. Maybe it looks less unappealing with better lighting and in the right context.

Now pink, especially that pale pink, I think would be lovely. But maybe that's what they said about Biscuit, too. Or avocado! Future home buyers/renovators be damned...

Amy, my parents have one or two soft gray Kohler toilets in their home, built in 1985. The baths (and LR, DR and foyer) are all Alabama marble quarried in Sylacauga. (white with gray veining - said to be the whitest and hardest). One guest bath is a shock in pink fixtures, tiles and marble counter.

I've always bought biscuit (or maybe bone?) for bathrooms. In this house they are all the Caxton undermount in some off white color. I had biscuit AS cast iron sink in last house as well as biscuit appliances. I have never been a black or white appliance gal.

Is the house a more traditional ranch from the 50's, rather than something more Neutra-esque? The image that comes immediately to mind with those fixtures and that lovely wallpaper is the iconic white leatherette musical jewelry box, with the little ballerina twirling around on the mirror and a heart-shaped key, to keep your pesky little sister out...!
But this is much more sophisticated than that, and very pretty. And very girly, of course. If that's your intention, you're there!

There is very little modernism here in its purest sense. There are a lot of midcentury variations of colonial revival with a modern floor plan and a mix of such elements as corner fireplaces and picture windows or sliders mixed with a fanlight over the front door, "colonial" millwork and even some rimlocks on the front door.

I have seen these successfully handled as pure modernist (by stripping and changing details) and neo-colonial modernist--by clarifying the colonial revival details--and maybe less successfully as other mixed bags of "traditional".

I know...it's a challenge. But the lack of purity of style can be freeing, too. I think either of your colors would look great with the papers you showed us. What I see, from what you've told us, is a cleaned-up, fresh version of whatever the house started with...Eleanor Donahue inherits her "Father Knows Best" house, and applies her grown-up sophisticated 21st century style to it.

As much as I bang the gong for architectural consistency, what "consistency" actually means is open to conjecture.

The particular building I live in now dates to 1840, with a major addition in 1899 and a conversion in 1965. So consistent can mean conforming to Greek Revival, Colonial Revival-Stick-style, or MCM, depending on what you are talking about. My particular unit has morphed into an intensely Greek Revival perimeter with an equally intense "1965-MCM" core penetrating the center, because of a set of crazy open tread winding stairs put in in 1965.

If one examines 'periods' you will start to see reiterations of elements that will really allow furniture and such from different times to play well together.

Allison, the Alabama marble and gray fixtures sound like the right context to me. Just gorgeous.

My summer place had a beige tub with an even lovelier beige surround. When we needed a new toilet, it had to be Biscuit. Thus, I carry a small wound related to Biscuit. Fortunately, we sold the summer place before I had to act on my plans to remodel the bathroom and kitchen.

If you have Biscuit, I have no doubt it looks good. Me, I'm stickin' with white. Just makes my life easier. :-)

Sure but when the color is reflecting up into your face from the sink or you are naked in the tub, it might be more important. Have you ever noticed how awful a lot of people's skin looks in a lime green or yield sign yellow environment? Think about it. I had a client that I could tell which bathroom she put makeup on in. (and not in a good way, if it was one of her bathrooms, in particular).

In the year I turned 50, I painted my bathroom red. Best idea I ever had. I looked lovely. Who knows what I actually looked like, but I felt fine!
