Good thinking on your daughters part. But unfortunately it did tell you, it is gone.

My kids and I have ost several phones. The best thing is to report it. They will stop anyone from using it. And insurance is for The Birds. At $100 a pop, we replaced several, then got a nasty letter from the Ins. Co. saying we had used up the "maximum" and would get no more replacement phones. My daughters are older now and very careful with their phones. Me too.

Patti I am so sorry you lost your phone. Maybe Sprint has a good deal on phones now. I have U.S. Cellular and have never lost a phone but I have misplaced it around the house or left it in my car. Whenever I want a new phone, I just go to a U.S. Cellular store and get one for one cent or whatever special they have going, In doing so, I have to renew my contract for another 2 years but I don't mind that.

Rhonda..that was the first thing I did...it goes straight to message.

But the fact that it has been active told us that someone else has it. Sprint has shut it off now so they can't use it anymore. We have unlimited everything but minutes on it. I'm worried about that. We never use up our minutes in a month and there are 5 of us on the family plan.

Hope it wasn't a bunch of prank calls.

You might be able to find a reasonably priced replacement on craigslist. (But don't buy one that does not have a charger, that makes me think it has been stolen.)
Last I heard, Sprint requires SPrint phones, so keep that in mind.

I learned to keep my phone on lock. I can receive calls, but if someone else tries to use my phone without the security code, THEY CAN'T

Lesson learned when my phone slid out of my backpack in a taxi. Taxi driver had a blast using up all my minutes. I had prepaid minutes.

Did you report it to the police? Obviously with calls being made on it, it's not lying around the house somewhere unless it autodials itself! I keep mine in a holster on my belt unless it's being charged. The good thing is that a basic phone is cheap to free. It's just the hassle. Hope you didn't have any private data in there. Whoever has it though has all your contacts which is not good. That's why I'd have called the police as soon as I knew it was stolen. How it happened? Who knows, but it probably just fell out of your pocket or purse. Could have been sitting in a cart and someone found it there and used it instead of turning it in.

I too use prepaid. No way will I pay contract prices! A cell isn't my life - it's a convenience for which I'll pay a few dollars a month but not $40, $60, $100 or more! But that's beside the point.

One thing I did was put in "ICE" numbers and then I gave the very first number in my contacts the title "If Found Please Call.." and I have my forwarding number so if someone hones finds it, there's a chance to get it back. A friend gave me that idea when her phone was left in a store, was turned in to the service desk by an honest person and the store clerk looked in the contacts and saw "home", called it and talked to her husband. Was able to page her in the store and she got her phone back before knowing it was gone! One thing though, I won't put my home number in there. I also don't put peoples' full names in there. Sometimes initials, at most, nicknames. Some people keep way too much personal info in a cell phone, especially for other people and once lost, it can fall into the wrong hands. Some keep name, address, phone #, birthday, anniversary and more! A crook's dream.

In my contacts....I only had first names...and not very many at that...just family....I don't like to call people.
I don't mind talking on a phone...just have a problem dialing I guess. I always think I'm bothering someone if I call them and figure if they want to talk to me they will call.

And no other secrets in there either...

It was a Palm Pre...and would be cheaper to use the deductable that to try to buy one.

My daughter gave her old phone to her DH when she had it for me it just said, mom. He never bothered to change it. He lost it in a bank parking lot where it had been scuffed up pretty bad. someone turned it into bank and i got a call told me it was a found phone and i was listed under mom. Anyway we did get it back before he even knew he had lost it. I had lost mine the same way one time and called my own number, was kind of shocked to have someone really answer it. It had been found and turned in at store but they didn't take the time to find out who it belonged but at least did answer and tell me where to retrieve it.
