Any drawbacks to platform beds?
Comments (38)Sueb20: I agree with Denali. We purchased a Savvyrest natural (not synthetic) latex bed about two years ago. It is a very well made bed and is wonderful sleeping. Ours is a king, and has one heavy zippered outer case that holds three twin mattresses for each side/person. You choose which level of firmness each piece is and layer them however you choose. Once it is all put together, you would never know that it had more than one piece inside-the foam just fits together perfectly. You could get it up your stairs as each piece is twin size and comes tightly rolled. And like Denali said, Savvyrest's shredded latex pillows are great. (I have no affiliation with this company.) Edited to add: they do have platform bed frames as well as other frames. Comments (23)Initially we thought changing the sheets would be a pain, but it's honestly no worse than changing sheets on any other bed. I can do it while standing on the floor and reaching onto the bed. My daughter changes them by climbing into the bed and doing the two back corners, then hopping to the floor and doing the two front corners. The mattress has a couple inches clearance on each side, which allows room for the bedding. As to possibly ever having to change the mattress, or for flipping it a couple of times a year, I made the front panel on the bed removable. Another reason was just in case she wanted a larger opening on the front of the bed. In that case I'd remove the panel (as shown in the photo below) and then simply add trim to the rectangular opening. Mongo...See MoreExterior help - Yes or No? Pics
Comments (50)ken -adrian - "shutters would be so down class on this house ... it would be like putting mudflaps on your mercedes ... lol ... yosemite sam mudflaps ... to boot .... " LOL so you don't think i should do shutters?? ==>>> yeah ... lol.. at least i got my point across ... i was just getting a hate on for mine earlier this week ... fighting wasps ... dirt accumulators ... PIA .... but not really an option to get rid of them.. on my house ... my only other usual thought ... is to scan the area... for similar houses... and steal ideas .... lol.. i have no shame ... you never know where you will pick up a color scheme.. not necessarily the colors you like/want .... but a scheme ... which is what we are talking about ... lastly.. as a hardcore gardener ... to my eye... you have ... another cliche.. a million dollar house.. and a thousand dollar landscape ... based on the height of the house.. and the prominence of the portico [the word i could not come up with yesterday] ... you have no vertical accents in the landscaping ... off to the left.. if you had some trees/conifers that had potential to grow skyward.. and echo the portico .... it would help anchor the house.. to the lot .... IMHO .... and it is complicated ...by the sidewalk to the garage ... because you cant plant anything of size near the garage.. where i would prefer to .... i cant see your pic because i already hit preview.. and my computer is going nuts.. because i have to do an update .... will finish this later ... wait.. one final thought.. that house doesnt look that old... i wonder why they needed to slap paint on it.. for sale??? ... any idea.. perhaps your location??? good luck ken...See MorePlatform bed surprises
Comments (55)After I re-measured and found out that the mattress was actually 79" L and didn't see any point in contacting Sealy. The guy from MF was very nice and sympathetic and offered to replace it, but said the new one would likely be the same. He did give me a body pillow, that sort of works. So, it turns out that it's not ideal but I've found two, maybe three solutions. 1) Split the difference and leave 2" on each end (I'll try this when I change the sheets, 2) find a cover for the body pillow. Not very smooth looking, and it looks like I'll have to periodically punch it down, but it does prevent the pillows from falling into the abyss, and 3) cut the 4" wide foam rubber that I bought to make a 60" x 11" x 4" block that I'll have to find a way to cover. It'll have a smooth top, won't budge (see photo above). When I find my new quilt and the bed is made, no one will know and I'll be able to prop up pillows to read in bed without slipping into the bed crack! P.S. It's still a mystery why a 79" mattress placed on an 80" bed leaves such a wide gap. I guess there a some things we are just not meant to understand....See Morebird_lover6
