Ack - No turning back now! I'm getting nervous...

Wow - 6 months of talking about a new kitchen and obsessing on here with everyone is one thing... but we're starting demo tomorrow and I'm having a little, tiny panic attack... it's for real now, I guess! Kind of how I felt when I was pregnant - never even occured to me the reality of having a baby at the end of it all... lol. I was just pregnant. Nothing more.

Wow. I'm setting up my little temp kitchen and loving using a little bar fridge, but it really hasn't sunk in that that is ALL we're going to have for the next 2 months. It just feels a bit like camping...

I'm waiting for reality to set in and then I think I'm going to go nuts. For now, I'm enjoying "camping" (it's been 2 hours... lol)

Actually, the summer months of the remodel (before they took out the last bathroom) were not bad at all. We grilled almost every night (which is normal for us when cooking since we like a lot of fresh fish and steaks). We had a lovely table set out in the garage and a fenced in area so the 1 year old wouldn't kill himself on the concrete. We sat in the sun and met all the neighbors within view :) And we did really have a pretty good time all in all.

Just don't let the remodel go into the new year!!! Or the next new year LMAO ok!!!!

Oh boy, do I know exactly how you feel! In fact, I used a similar pregnancy analogy the other day. I was so happy to be pregnant, but so worried that something would go wrong, or that I wouldn't fall in love with my baby the instant I saw his face. Same with my kitchen. I'm happy things are underway, but I'm afraid that something will go wrong, or that I won't love it when it is done. We are way past the point of no return, and I'm questioning so many decisions, worrying that things won't turn out right, or that I just won't like it. Within another week or two, we will probably start getting to the point where it looks like a kitchen, and I'm nervous. I just hope it works out as well as that baby did!

I have built two lasagne beds now, and I am using them both for veggies. My top layers were manure and then a dusting of top soil... I did transplants and seeds right after building the beds. For the seeds, I layed them right on top and covered with a small amount of compost or top soil. The transplants, I just dug into the layers, moving them a little and placed the plant right in, then covered with compost and mulch. They are all thriving. I swear by this method now, especially here in AZ. HLH and have fun!

God is Good! First of all a huge CONGRATULATIONS and WELCOME BACK! Prayers from me to you. My best friend just finished her last chemo 2 weeks ago and is now cancer free. I'm trying to convince her to have a party! I hope you also celebrate with a party and/or a great tomato harvest! Enjoy :)

Susanka - I would love a list of those deer resistant plants. We want to do some major backyard landscaping in the spring and I would love to be armed with that info. I would hate to spend 500.00 on my new pets lunch. :) The windows we have are Anderson Silver line. Our ceilings are 8ft in the breakfast area and slant up to 16 feet in the great room. Our windows range from 36" wide to 72" wide and are 75" tall. Our builder wanted us to put the deck on the side of the house so we wouldn't have to look at it thru the window. I didn't want the deck on the side because it's less private, wouldn't look right with our home and I wanted the deck to have the best view since we are outdoorsy people. I held my ground but suddenly (because of my builder) worried that I wouldn't like seeing the deck from the inside. All of those worries were for nothing. It doesn't bother me at all. I like being able to see the family from inside and it's not like it totally obstructs the inside view. The only thing I can't see is the patio underneath it. I keep it neat and clutter free so it's a nice view of the deck and is inviting. I definitely feel it was the right decision and I don't think you will be bothered by it at all.

Do any of you have a silgranite sink with another type of sink in the same room? I'm thinking of trading out my dbl bowl for a single, and a Super Single, of course, looks like the best use of the space...But my prep sink on the island is white porc over cast iron (Kohler). Will they look bad together? (Both would be drop in, not undermount.) Would I want to stick with white (I have light gray counters), or will that emphasize the difference in the sink materials? Of course, this all depends on my talking DH into taking out my nearly new sink when he's still working to finish the rest of the house... Sorry to hijack, Fairytalebaby. Based on the previous threads on Silgranite sinks I read today, I bet you'll be thrilled with your choice.

The time will both go quickly and drag while the work is underway. One suggestion....don't be absolutely tied to the 2 month idea. If you do end up without a kitchen for only 2 months, that will be great! However, don't be surprised if it goes over. Enjoy the process!

Oh, I am in the same boat as you (well almost). They are supposed to start demo next week. Keep us posted as to how it is going. We will have to support each other through this process.

We've been packing all day - this is worse than moving... my laundry room is now my laundry room, mudroom, toyroom, kitchen, storage and way-out-the-door. And it's about 10' by 3'... this is not fun anymore :)

I am physically wiped, and we haven't even started yet. Oh well... thank heavens you can get wine in little bottles now... I've packed every dish I own - I'm taking a "dish" vacation...

the 2-mths is pretty firm as that is when our cabinets are in and then 2-3 more days for a countertop (laminate) and then painting. We're doing most of the work ourselves, so we know we can stick to our timeline - our biggest stress was trying to work with a GC... glad that's my husband... mind you I can't fire him, but he's cheap :)
