I got a lot done today...

We had a beautiful day today here in S.W. IA...

A little warmer than this "fluffy" body likes, but there was a nice breeze.

I got flowers planted. I raked up enough pine needles to fill a whiskey barrel...I mowed with the push mower around the flower beds and under the pine up by the driveway. I cleaned out my water feature, filled it and got it running.

Pulled weeds.

Took the petrified picket fence sections down that I used for Family pictures last Halloween and moved the hay bale.

(To heavy for me to carry down to the burn area and my big garden wagon has a flat tire.)

Now I need to get some grass seed for in front of our porch. Last year I planted seed and fertilized...lol....I put on too much fertilizer and killed all the grass. Not just the seeds I planted but what I had already growing.

Live and learn.

Did I say...I'm tired?...Well I am...I'll either sleep good or fitful from hurting all over.

I'm tired just reading your post Patti!

It was a beautiful day here yesterday too. Temps were around 90Âº and we had a slight breeze. Jammer and I went to a graduation party honoring his niece. It was a luau and we all dressed accordingly. The food, cooked by Jammer's brother, was awesome! The kids all had a ball and we adults did too. It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Windy, sunny here. I'm worthless, today. Dressed, dinner for lunch per usual, and headed to clubhouse in a bit for association meeting.

I had no idea your sun allergy is so nasty, I've heard about sun allergy, but don't know anyone who has it. I can't imagine gardening with it, talk about devotion! I sure wish I could send some of this rain your way, we've had 3" the last few days, more storms predicted through the weekend. Temps were 95-96 for about 11 days in a row & no rain, the ground was dry for the first time this year. Rain started up again last week & we're saturated with storms predicted through the weekend. I'm starting to feel like the clouds are just over my house. The local weather station always tells how much rain has occurred, my rain gauge always seems to say more. I know I'll be wishing for rain next month, would be nice if it you could just order it when you need it :)

Oh, Karen. I wasn't bored at all. I was totally enthralled by the ever changing colors. The first 2 daylilies are fantastic, whatever their true color. I understand wanting to share all of this beauty with someone who can appreciate it. My husband is not a gardener at all, but is so sweet to walk outside with me when I want to show him something. Bless his heart, he tries to show enthuriasm the best way he can. Plus he lets me garden as much as I want. Please keep posting your beautiful pictures. Ann

Wow that is a long list Rose_crazy_da. Just curious, which of them grow the best in your garden? I have not been to Vandermeer before and it is in Ajax. I can tell that Graham Thomas is a stingy bush. This is the second time I have grown this rose. The first one died within a month that I planted it. The one I planted last spring is okay, definitely not as fast growing as the others. It is slow growing but I am only judging by its first year. I will have to see how it does this season. I heard or rather read both negative and positive things about Gertrude Jekyll. I've read about her nasty thorns...lol. Can't be much worst than Jude's thorns. I would definitely grow more of Mary Rose if I can find her again. The one I have is the first rose to bloom and is covered with buds. I would definitely plant this one in threes. The other ones I may think of planting is threes is Teasing Georgia, Crown Princess Margareta, Heritage, Golden Celebration, L.D. Braithwaite and Evelyn. If you ever come across Golden Celebration and L.D. Braithwaite, they do well in our zone. I love L.D. because it is more cane hardy of all the Austins so far. Every year, a few of his big tall canes survive our winters which means taller Austins for me.

hahahaha! Bill, your post made me laugh. Why? Well, because I felt pretty pleased with myself that THIS ONCE I didn't make a gigantic mess of three rooms of the house! :-P I have had my husband scowl at piles of AV potting mix sitting on the counter.. and sigh as he washed down the sink in the bathroom for me... and shrug as he brushed off the counter in the laundry room! :-D Oh the joys of having violets in four different rooms of the house! I pot where-ever is handy. SO THIS TIME I decided I would be neat and organized about it so I wouldn't get as much soil in the reservoirs, and soil on the floor, and soil in the sink! It didn't work though. I just didn't take a picture of the mess to the right of the picture. :-P I'd better go wipe down the counter one more time... I still see residue... Thanks Harawlins! I HOPE it works... I am a bit anxious with these being mother leaves and babies.. I've never tried this before on such little plants! :-]

It's sunny today, breezing and slightly warm. The breeze is a little cool, though. I went and got some manure for the garden and three tomato plants. I've got to run out and get some index cards for Alex (he knew we were going shopping yesterday and took his shoes he didn't like back today but couldn't say anything till we got home today!) He needs them for his final in French this week.

Then I'm coming home and planting my garden. I'm going to plant the tomatoes, some squash, morning glories, okra and watermelon. that's it for now.

There's so much work that needs to be done outside, it's overwhelming but I'm going to do a little each day.

I'm still working on cleaning out closets! But, every time I get one cleaned out the Garage gets full. I can't win. LOL!

I've got an old credenza in the garage that I keep some craft items in. I can hardly get to it. When I finally did, I found I couldn't open the top drawer. Main Man put some boxes on top of it and the weight has bent the top so the drawers want open.

Do Men ever put anything up in it's place!

I just love productive days like that, Patti. Sounds like you did a lot!

We washed all 4 dogs yesterday, then brushed them out. Whew, what a job. 2 are collies and have tons of fur.

Today I'm fighting off a headache so I'm paying bills online, listing on Etsy, taking photos, etc. Simple little things that won't task my sore head.

Patti, I dreamt about you last night, you were having your get-together and there were a slew of peeps there and it ended up downtown in front of little shops and you were having a blast. lol Strangers were coming up and talking to me and I was pretending I knew who they were. It was crazy fun.

Well today I didn't get much done that I wanted to do, but a lot that needed to get done. DH has gone into full-out mode in finishing my bathroom, and we are so very close, but that means I have to be on call as gopher, for "here, hold this" or "sweep up this so I don't track it all over the house" or "go get this from the truck", or "put this screw in because you can bend over and I can't"...you get the picture. I have tomato and pepper plants that NEED to be in the ground! I have veg and flower beds which NEED to be weeded! There are impatiens on the front porch which NEED to be planted!

I work tomorrow and Tuesday, and it's supposed to rain off and on through the rest of the week, which will mean the ground will be too wet to sit on, which is how I do most of my groundskeeping. I guess we'll survive, but AARRGGHH@!

I woke up to a BROKEN dryer, with wet clothes in the dryer, a wet load on top of it and another in the wash...so my first stop was to the laundromat...and on a Sunday of all things! Things could ONLY get better after that!

We took in our little art show around the courthouse today...it was a blast seeing everyone's beautiful work! (and every resturant in town sets up a booth so we got cheap eats too!)

Well, I got my garden planted. My whole body hurts, even after a hot shower. I mulched it pretty good but need another bag still, but it will have to wait till I'm off again. I planted all the stuff I posted above plus some canteloupe and marigolds I bought this afternoon.

I had to pull a bunch of weeds even though I had black plastic over the garden area, they were growing up on the sides of it. Lot of potato bugs and ants, I hope they don't eat my seeds. I poured boiling water on the ants, but it didn't kill them all.

Patti, it sounds like you got a lot accomplished. Did you sleep well? I had a busy day yesterday too, and I had a restless night. I'm going to take some Tylenol pm tonight.

I removed everything from the screened in back porch and power washed the porch, the birdbath and all outdoor furniture. Then I painted a total of 8 outdoor chairs and one table. I put them back on the porch late yesterday evening. I have some 16" X 16" blocks that I made into a small patio for a sitting area, but I changed my mind about where I want them, so tomorrow I have to do it over. I spread more mulch today, moved a container that has some plants in it. I also planted a fake tree. :)
I took some pictures of everything, but I'm too tired tonight to fool with them. I'll post some before and after pictures of some of it and just some after pictures of others tomorrow.
