I first joined the KT in 2007 and I did make the mistake of telling my neighbor about this site. Although I never revealed anything embarrassing I did mentione things about various family members and one day she she asked if I was "....."

That's when I stopped posting under the old name and made up a new one. I asked her if she ever posted and she said that she only lurks.

Never acquaintances, but daughters, yes. They don't go here ordinarily, but have reported when I had surgery, etc.

This is my secret spot! If I ever need to rant about a friend or family member, I can do it without worrying about it being seen.

DH knows about the Kitchen Table, because a number of KTers have been to our home--but he hasn't a clue how to get here.

Husband and kids know about KT (although they don't visit) but not friends or work people. I feel like everyone else. This is my own place and my own group of friends. Guess I just don't want to share :-)

I was always curious about this. I have told my aunt and a couple friends but never disclosed my moniker to them. So far they haven't asked any questions and I doubt whether they even visited GW. Yes, I've talked about personal goings on but never include real names just in case.

However, I have noticed some posters here are people I know in real life. Don't know if they've figured out who I am. Has that happened to anyone else? You've identified posters because you actually do know them?

I won't share it with anyone because I don't need any nosy people looking for stuff I write. I'm a private person and only post randomly. My DH knows I frequent a forum but doesn't know the name of this site. But, I have wondered if if anyone I know, mainly family, found this site on their own and have pieced posts/pics together over time and know it's me.

Like others, I feel this is my private place, and it's okay for us to feel that way.

No I don't think so I did send the Garden Junkers link to my friend that is doing some of the crafty stuff with me. But not here. My husband knows I am on a lot of forums but mostly the computer related ones.

The "KT" is a oft quoted place at our home. As in, check out this cake called 3-2-1! I learned about it at "the KT".

As such, my DH and kids know of the Kitchen Table and KT. Whether they visit here, I don't know. I approach every post as if everyone I know is reading it.

With that said, I do admit I sincerely hope that none of my coworkers lurk here.

Same here. I frequently speak of the GW and or the KT, but only to close family and doubt that they would visit. I also cut and paste things from here...leaving out names....and send to DH. I do have a list of 'things' that he might need to know in case I needed him to know them, which includes pass words etc to accounts. See....KT is right up there with my important stuff now that I think about it.

Some know it, some don't. But, there are some people in another town who particpate in a certain craft that I don't that do lurk all the time. How do I know, because when I mentioned a event coming up and was uncertain at to the date, she posted the information for me. Which is ok, but I do try to watch what I post. But I would like to meet her, but she chooses not to do so for whatever reason.
And their may be others. But that is there choice.

Since I have no workmates, the answer is no.

Most of my long-time friends know everything about me anyhow, and none of them even have computers. My DD knows about the "KT" but she wouldn't know how to get here even if she wanted to. I often mention things to her that I've read about here, but she has no interest in any forums, Facebook, or "small talk." She is definitely a bookworm.

Some of you have seen a little Christmas story and pic of her that I posted back in '07 (anybody remember the "blocks" story?) Also I posted the video of her DS's wedding three years ago.

I don't personally know any KTers. I did meet a Garden
Party member once. I had hoped for a get together for us Virginians, but so far it hasn't happened.

Oh, I don't visit any other forums except CompHelp and a couple GW sites re plants, trees, etc.

I can't imagine having time to spare to visit several forums.

I am on Facebook, but only with relatives in other states.

My DH knows, and my daughter too as I will quote things to her related to questions she may have. She has a young moms type site where she goes to discuss and ask advice.

I have only told DH, and told him NOT to tell anyone. He has mentioned my 'forum' at times, in conversation with friends or family, but I change the subject.
Like some others posted, this is for ME, it is just a special place I don't want to share with my friends.
I have in the past ranted a couple times, about different things, and have wished I could remove the posts, just because I do not want anyone i know IRL to see them.

I don't tell anyone. Hubby knows The Table, but wouldn't think of coming here. I show him some funny threads, and the amazing pics, but he has no interest in reading it on his own.

You are "my" friends. I don't want anyone else in my area to come here. LOL

I guess this is a "private" place for most of us, even though it's very public.

I occasionally mention "a forum I visit," but not by name, except to my kids--they know I'm a Kitchen Tabler. I told them if anything happens to me they have to report in here. They would not visit here, couldn't be bothered with it. They have other interests.

No. I mention to people and family that I come to forums on the web, but I don't mention them by name. I have not recognized anyone here. I tell my location(PA) but no other pertinent info.

Yes, I talk about the KT to friends and family. Even if I didn't I wouldn't post any very personal info or situation. This is a public forum. You never know who is lurking.

No I don't and that freaked me out. I'm posting at the risk of him reading this, but the timing was too coincidental. I've had other doctor's appointments and never got a call. Today I told him what I'm going through because we work closely together and have to cover each other. He acted mildly surprised then asked where it was. geez

I don't browse on my work computer because the proxy keeps a history and they could see it. I discuss personal things on here that I don't with others so I don't name this site if I talk about the happenings here.

The only one who knew I posted here was my brother because we found GW together and he used to post pictures for me. My family knew I had friends on a message board, because of swaps and how good everyone was to me. Others have now found out I post here which is why I don't post anything personal about my family or myself anymore. I keep in touch now with my friends from here on FB

Like Jodi I don't hide the fact. I don't hand out links to the site but the KT is an online community I happen to belong to and it is a part of me.

I don't post anything I wouldn't say to a person's face so I don't have any problem with people reading my opinions etc. I freely give them in real life. LOL

This is far from a secret place for anyone. It's an open forum and one of the reasons the GW is so large that anyone at any time can Google for unrelated info on something and the Gardenweb will come up.

If you post something then be sure you don't want it to be private. It's not and it really is a small world.

I am more careful here then other sites as far as privacy because of the total lack of users privacy control.

Far too much info is archived here and innocently posted for the whole world to view.

I might mention 'my forum' but not give any details to identify it. The only people I have actually given the info to is my sister (who posts here) and my Mom-not sure why she doesn't post.

Only my Dh knows. add me to the list of "this is my secret place". There are things I would only tell my friends here. someday i will tell you all what has been going on in my life but I just can't say anything right now......someday though...

I sent a link to a post to my daughters, or friends occasionally... but I know, they don't come here otherwise.

Some people here met my riding buddy Mel, and some people here met my ex.

I have two friends who know how to come here. They would only come when I was posting while on trips. They liked to keep up on where I was and also to see the pictures I would post. Since I hardly ever post here anymore they don't come here.

I do talk about the KT to my close friends and refer to some of the posts. My DH has known about the KT since when I first started here back in 1998. Several of the posters here have stayed at our house and we have met lots of them over the years.

I posted about genealogy on here once using my family name, etc and an old boyfriend from years and years ago was doing a google search found and read my posts. haha I think he was disappointed I never wrote about him. I would rather he didn't read anything about me but its too late now.

My daughters know I come here and they know about my friends I have here. One is even a member of the Garden Forum.

My son and my friend know about my "computer friends", as your are known. They don't know my screen name or the actual web site. Someone asked me once and I said I-village.

I'm sure glad I'm not the only one who keeps it to herself! But like Wildchild said, there isn't anything private about the KT. As an example, when my nephew got married I posted the photographer's website to share the pictures. The photographer told my nephew he had over 2000 (or 4000, my memory's down the tube) hits just from TGW. (I don't know how he knew that, but I'm not computer savvy.) Anyway, I got a big thank you!

I've met some KT folks at various times, in different places.

I found that Iva Mae and I attend the same church - she lent me a book the other day written by a student intern at our church three or four years ago, a former Buddhist.

You remember the pictures that a friend took of my car to enter into an "old wreck" contest? She knows about it and has visited once or twice, I think - but isn't much interested.

I've sent the access address to a thread that might have interested my kids, a couple of times, but they're not much interested. I've mentioned to my son about letting you know when I become incapacitated, but we haven't pursued it.

Son, who is a rather militant atheist, wasn't exactly enthused about my asking last week for prayers for his lady's family when her Dad died ... but later slightly grudgingly allowed as how her family appreciated it.

I try not to disparage people here whom I know face-to-face ... or here, either, for that matter. It seems to me important that we treat others with respect ... and even, in most cases, some affection.

I figure that if God can stand me ... and them ... surely I should be able to (or, make an effort, at least).
