Do some of the groups stay together from year to year or do they always start new each year? I just joined this year for the first time and there were 9 of us-NKOTB.
I didn't know how all the sign up goes as I know some people are in more than one. I thought 9 was a perfect number so will need to give it some thought for 13.

To answer your question all the groups will be different this year. I didn't head this up last year and don't have the lists. But I can get them, Amy said she would sent them all to me if I wanted them, I still think I will mix everyone up. All the groups started out last year with 13 people, not to sure how up ended up with only 9, must be people dropped out and they weren't replaced, or you started out the year with a short group.

This is always a fun thing, I enjoyed it a LOT last year.

For us birthday newbies, can the more experienced people offer any advice for block selection? I don't want to pick something too complicated or make a request that would be too restrictive. For example, if I pick a 9 patch variation, can I request a combination of scrappy bits and muslin?

Kate, you can ask for anything you like. A 9 patch in scraps and muslin sounds verrrrrry nice!

What other ideas do you have?

I would love to join birthday block - would it be open to me as i live in Cornwall, U.K. If it is okay i will then send you my details

This is my first time in the swap, so I don't know the rules or want to presume anything or take anything away from the swap leader' but personally, Iit would sadden me for someone not to be able to participate because of location.

Couldn't the members of that group send their blocks along with a part of the postage to one Stateside group member and that person could send them all over? That way, she could be certain to get all of the blocks at once, rather than having them trickle in possibly weeks or months apart. I have no idea on the cost of mailing to the UK, but it also might be more cost effective to send one package rather than 12. Just a thought.

Of course, intercontinental mail just might be more reliable than I'm presuming!

Sometimes intercontinental mail is more reliable than the regular mail. There has never been any discrimination on location before. We have several international swappers already signed up. So Salijo go ahead and send your info to Vicky, I am sure she will be able to accomidate you.

Vicky thanks so much for taking this over this year. With the PTA and baby Kaitlyn coming soon it was all just to much for me to organize and monitor this year. I really appreciate you stepping up and taking the lead. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out.

Just to reiterate Amy, yes, you can join in the swap, no problem with intercontinental swappers. Most of them just send a little early to make up for travel time and I know if I'm sending over seas I send early too.

Yes, I would say it is, I just looked this up on Quilter's cache and it is given a 3 red pin rating.

(You may pick what ever you want for your block. The blocks would be "beginner friendly",,,no appliquÃ, unless a person asks for a Quilters choice of block and the maker wants to do appliquÃ... This swap is open to all levels of quilters and we do not want to discourage new quilters from joining.)

So I guess the rules changed; but very little. I know that some of the beginner quilters (we are getting some signing up) Could not make this block.

On quilter cache the three red pins stand for the hardest block on the sight:
Several types of assembly, or many little pieces, set-in seams, etc. = Three Pins! RED pins mean all or some appliqué!

I hope you still join the swap.
