Birthday Block Exchange 2011 - Don't Sign Up Yet!

I just wanted to pass along to everyone that I will continue to be coordinator of this exchange for 2011 because it seems like this year's group is still willing to have me do that... LOL, but don't sign up yet! I will post something once again when it is time to sign up. The first opportunity will be in early September and will likely continue until just before Thanksgiving. Kristene (TinyTeena) is willing to be co-hostess with me so a big thank you to her! We will divide up what needs to be done and keep in touch with each other and everyone else.

The rules may get tweeked a bit for next year and I have been in touch with this year's members for suggestions and their comments. As we said, it will just be some tweeking -- it will still be YOUR Birthday Block Exchange with input from those who participate!

Well, enjoy the rest of the summer and I have to say we are having lots of fun with the Birthday Block Exchange in 2010!

Kristene and I have put together a special list of blocks for the 2011 birthdays and sent it out to the current members. It will be available to all who are interested in the Birthday Block Exchange soon. We are still working on making a few changes in the rules - nothing major - just to keep things running smoothly.

Keep in mind that although there is this special list of blocks, you can request other blocks by checking with me and Kristene and also you can still request what has been called "Quilter's Choice" (whatever the sender would like to make for you) and can request just a general "theme" for the blocks - something like sunflowers or cups and saucers or the seashore. I forgot to mention about "Quilter's Choice" and the "theme request" when I sent out e-mail to the groups. You will be selecting the colors etc. just like we have done in the past.

Okay, so more information will be coming out in September!

Just to let you know where we are with plans for the 2011 Birthday Block Exchange, the list of blocks and the rules have been e-mailed to the quilters who are in the exchange this year so we can get their comments, suggestions, etc. before the lists are finalized. That will happen soon so watch for sign ups in a few weeks.

Just so the current members will know this, if you have mailed out your birthday blocks this year according to the schedule (or very close to the schedule), you definitely can be in the Birthday Block Exchange for 2011 so don't hesitate to contact us once signs up are posted.

This was my first year participating in the birthday block exchange and really enjoyed it. I found that I was making blocks I'd not have thought of making for myself, and then learned that I like a lot of patterns that I didn't think I would. Having the list by the beginning of the year worked well because my heaviest sewing time is winter and I got all my blocks made then. Now I just get to enjoy watching the process unroll. And I got my first block gift from Kate today! I love it and many thanks, Kate!!! So... that said, I'd be happy to participate in a 2012 birthday block with any who prefer not to sit out this year. Maybe there would only be enough people for 1 group. And I'd be glad to help with coordinating it, now that Michele is handling the monthly lotto. I doubt that I'd participate in any kind of notions/birthday gift exchange, as, like magothyrivergirl, I have plenty of those, more than I can find room for! Have never done a challenge, and would have to read the guidelines before committing to participate in one. But I doubt that I would.. I have enough challenges on the shelves of my quilting room! Just another two cents worth.. and we know what two cents is worth these days!

I will have a helper as well. Kristene (TinyTeena) has agreed to be co-hostess working along with me for next year. The time frame will be about the same as last year so begin to look for information about signing up towards fall and the group lists will be prepared and e-mailed to you before the Christmas holidays are in full swing. That way you can work ahead and complete any January blocks for your group if you want to work ahead. Many people worked far ahead this year putting me to shame with my slow pace. LOL We will be looking for any suggestions on how to improve the group and I will be sending out an e-mail message to all the current members asking for input and telling you about some ideas Kristene and I have tossed around. We hope you will join in again next year and look forward to having some new participants, too. I have participated for 3 years now and it has been lots of fun! Jen, Last years sign up said this: You may pick what ever you want for your block. My only requests is that you do not make your block request to hard. This swap is open to all levels of quilters and we do not want to discourage new quilters from joining. My sign-up says this: You may pick what ever you want for your block. The blocks would be "beginner friendly",,,no appliquÃÂ©, unless a person asks for a Quilters choice of block and the maker wants to do appliquÃÂ©... This swap is open to all levels of quilters and we do not want to discourage new quilters from joining. So I guess the rules changed; but very little. I know that some of the beginner quilters (we are getting some signing up) Could not make this block. On quilter cache the three red pins stand for the hardest block on the sight: Several types of assembly, or many little pieces, set-in seams, etc. = Three Pins! RED pins mean all or some appliquÃ©! Yes, magothyrivergirl - the Patchwork Pines quilt is to be suitable for a female/girl/teenager. Our new hospital in Orange, NSW, Australia, is still being built and is due to open in 2011. So the quilting group I belong to has made the Oncology Ward at our new hospital our project. While the hospital is being built, we are all trying to make quilts to stock up. Our existing hospital doesn't have an oncology ward - all patients with cancer must go to Sydney for treatment. So the new oncology ward will treat patients all over country NSW. The last 2 years my quilts have been blue, so next year I'm aiming for pink from the Patchwork Pines and really bright fabrics from Carolina Lilies.
