Gwen, you're welcome and I'm so glad you enjoyed the pictures I posted. I think those rooms are dreamy. One of the things I love about the more "modern" decorating is the two-toned curtains. Also, when doing shabby chic or cottage, there is a lot of mixing of fabrics. Since you sew, I'm wondering if you can buy the too-short curtains, cut a little off the bottom or top, lengthen the curtains, and use the cut off fabric in bed pillows or chair cushions along with whatever fabric you use to lengthen the curtains? I'm not sure if that woule work or not but it's something to think about. That said, white is always used a lot in cottage decor and shabby chic. Lovely white window treatments are easy to find. One of the prettiest I ever saw I think was carried by Pottery Barn and they were a thin semi-opaque cotton, maybe a batiste. Along the top they were smocked. They were just yummy. I have Orange Peel walls too and I wouldn't hesitate to try out the stamping. Just grab any paint you have around and stamp something on there pushing hard and see what you get. You can have a damp sponge in your other hand ready to scrub off whatever you did. Another thing about the shabby chic look is that it's rather chippy and broken looking, so if your stamp didn't do a perfect print it might add to the charm rather than subtracting from it. I read the other responses, but this is what I would do... I would change out the blue color, maybe a limish green or a blue than is more similar to the blue in the bottom butterfly wings on the quilts or the background in one of your pictures. Obviously, not that bright, but more in that color tone. Painting the trim would make it more girlish, but I think you could make some other changes before making that decision. If you have it in your budget to buy fabric, I would cover your beds in a solid color fabric to make the quilts pop more. Try hobby lobby for some cute wall decor. Last year, I found an adorable glittery wood wall letters that said "kisses" in the valentines section. It goes perfectly in my 5 year olds room. I would hang something like that above each of their beds. The dresser needs something cute on it. A little grouping of bears, blocks, picture frames or just something more decorative. You could paint some butterflies on one wall with just a few small pints of sample paint. You can get these at Sherwin Williams for $5 each in their cans designed to help you decide on a color and you can mix them in any of their colors. It would add a lot of pizzazz to the room, and a butterfly shape is pretty simple shapes put together. I would then add some cute basic curtains, maybe in a solid color. Good Luck, I'm sure they already love it, we always overanalyze these rooms, and I am sure they love it just the same now as they would later.

I think you can get away with it. I wouldn't do it in a formal room or even my master, but for the girls' room, which will probably change in a few years anyway, I think it is fine and doesn't look bad at all.

Pretty, oceanna! RE: the HD . . .click on where it says "other options" (it says Shade with Cordless) or options/specifications. I don't see the liners, though. Maybe they are dark as-is? I found some others . . .they are 3/4 pleat blackout shades, cordless, and come in pink. The pink may be too peach, though . A sample would be good! See the link below. This is my 4yo sons room. The bed is shaped like a boat. behind the bed are family photos. I painted a lighthouse on one wall with abc's. I painted the sofa white and let him paint the "decorations" on it. The other photo has a wall with chalkboard paint. Next to that wall, I painted a school bus, because he likes the cartoon The Magic School Bus. I also painted the United States. All the way around the room I made a "chair rail" with photos of famous people.

THANKS! I really try to inspire him to be creative. We are always building "stuff" around the house. He calls the room his Magic School Bus room. Funny, I would have thought he would have been more excited about the boat bed...go figure. This has been his room for the past year. I hope that he will be in it a few more years before he tires of it.

I was going for a 1930's Ernest Hemmingway type safari tent with sides pulled back to see the animals outside the tent:

Someone here has a fabulous attic space with onsuite bath done in wonderful turquoise, pink and maybe a green? (Can't remember...it's a girls space). It could be easily done with different colors and be a boys space or both. I don't remember who's room that is but someone else will. It's really cool with lots of wonderful painted pieces.
