Interested in seeing kitchens painted orange or cheerful green...

Hello -

Someone on here had a nice orange kitchen (hint of spice or burned orange maybe?) and I thought I'd saved it but apparently not. I'm also interested in walls that are - for lack of what might be the right name - an apple green? Not too much grey in it.

What I have to contend with: old house, someone period style kitchen (1913) that's only about 12.5 x 14' big and has North facing windows (and no molding to separate walls from ceiling nor a lot of paintable wall space); white or cream original tall cupboards going to ceiling; tall ceilings; original fir wood floors; new stainless counter (soon); white farm sink; white island w/ butcherblock/edge grain wooden top; backsplash behind counter will most likely be white 2x6 marble subway tile without much veining.

So as you can see, I need to compensate for all the whiteness. Can't wait for this darned project to start! My contractor's getting revenge on me (ha) for how long it took me to get my ducks in a row and give the thumbs up to start the project!

Farrow and Ball has a beautiful green called Cooking Apple Green. Would look beautiful in a period home.

When we purchased this home, I stood in each room and made a list of words describing how I wanted to feel in that room. I picked my colors using that list. (Granted, I had NO existing furnishings to worry about!) I have a ... golden-yellow laundry room red-orange kitchen (I wanted a yellow kitchen but that color clashed with the oak cabinets!) orange dining room blue-gray study green den brown powder room (I didn't repaint this room.) raffia beige foyer and stairwell (I originally wanted a happy, welcome-to-our home, yellow foyer, but this the only space with high, hard-to-reach ceilings. I took pity on DH and used beige. I love this shade of beige b/c it looks like a well-washed, much-loved piece of linen.) and that's just the downstairs. I love color. I wish I could change my room colors every season like I change my clothes! Our walls are only 8-feet and DH is a good painter so he told me to do whatever I wanted. Life is too short to not use what you love. Sometimes I think I might repaint the den to beige. Sometimes I wish I'd gone with apricot for the laundry room and kitchen. Oh well, maybe next time! I'll let DH rest his painting arm for a few years! Nin

I think the warmer color is a great idea. But what stands out for me in the room is everything is angular, straight, hard lines. There's nothing soft and curvy (except the archways, which I love). Even your chairs have square backs; the rug has some curves, but overall reads geometric. For me, that makes the room feel stiff and uptight, not a place to linger and relax. Maybe lose the lamp and collection of little stuff on top of the sideboard and put something large and curvy up there--either on top or hanging on the wall behind. That would help incorporate the archways into the design, too.

Otherwise most paint manufactures have one called Bright White or something very close to it. Realize that where you live, the surroundings, the light etc. will be influencing how the color looks too.

Oooh, cooking apple green sounds delicious!

My kitchen is painted BM Brookside Moss. We are still in the cabinet stages. Below is a pic of how it looks today.

I can soon post photos of a similar kitchen with lots of white...we have white cabs to ceiling...no crown moulding...north facing windows...little natural light...white floor....wilsonart oiled soapstone countertops and it's painted SW Gleeful. It's a happy apple green color and I really love it. Keep an eye out for photos coming early next week.

It's "Lenape Trail" by Benjamin Moore. It looks kind of orangey in these photos, but is really more brown/burnt sienna in person. Hope this helps! Donna

While not a kitchen, so just for a color sample, here is retro lime by BM. Glad you found donnakay's gorgeous kitchen--love that color!

Rufinorox - your paint color actually seems to be a lot like the one we have now, only maybe a tad happier as ours is more of a greenish-beige avocado! I really like my paint color, but with all the white that's about to take over my kitchen, I feel I *have* to do something either darker or punchier. Yours is lovely. :)

Oldhouse1 - Cooking Apple Green looks very pretty from what I could see online, thanks!

Storklady - Gleeful does look great too however it really is hard to tell from the online samples I saw so please do post soon! :)

sc_kathyc - I really love that green. I think that could look really nice and can't wait to see more when your cabinets are done!

Donnakay - I am very intrigued by your orange walls! Not too bold, which might be very nice for it to be a bit more subdued than some of these other oranges. Looks very nice next to white. Thanks for posting the pics!

Theresse, here's a vintage-y kitchen pic that strikes me as cheery if a little quirky. I can't remember where it came from. You should do a search for Yes Dear's painfully gorgeous period kitchen. My recollection is that she has a very true non-gray green that is just beautiful.

nutherokie - it reminds me a lot of firsthouse's bathroom color above! Also very cheerful. I'll try looking up Yes Dear's period kitchen.

Plllog - love that orange! I especially like that's not *too* spicy.

I keep seeing this blue color I also think about though I don't know if I could ever do a blue kitchen. Still, it's tempting. I don't know how to describe the color...mabye sort of a peacock blue? If I can find an example I'll let you know.

In short, I want a kitchen color that's not too boring and typical. E.g. I don't want yellow and if I do a green I'd like it to be something not too ubiquitous in kitchens. I also think about a rose color - like a deep pinkish-red color.
