Breast Cancer Awareness Blocks--UPDATE

Ladies

I just wanted to give you an update on the status of our Breast Cancer Awareness Blocks for the quilt auction we will be having in October.

Again, I can not say THANK YOU enough to everyone who has contributed so far. There is still time. We are accepting blocks until September 15th for this year's auction. Any blocks that come in after that time will go toward quilts for next year's event. Anyway...

...with just the blocks that I have in my possession, we have well over 100 blocks! A group of got together this evening to start laying out blocks to see what kind of sashing/border fabric we would need. One of our doctors at the Air Force Base (who was the original driving force with this project) who just retired, donated yards, and I means yards, of fabric that we can use for the backing. There is a group going out on Saturday to purchase the sashing/border fabric that we need, another group getting together on Monday, and yet another group forming for August 29th. Blocks are still rolling in from all over the United States...this is a FABULOUS event this year.

Pictures will be taken on October 15th so that the booklet can be made and the actual auction is October 25th. I'm so excited and can't wait to post pictures to show you all.

Remember, if you would like to contribute to the cause, this will be an on going event for Minot Air Force Base, so we will take blocks/completed quilts/fabric donations year round and use them accordingly.

GO LYNN!!

The only reason I haven't contributed is I have been doing the Quilts of Valor.

We all choose where to put our efforts, given where we are in life. I APPLAUD you for the effort you have devoted to this cause. I hope to be able to send something after I finish the QoV's in the next few weeks.

Thanks. There are literally no other words I can say to express how I deeply your support has helped me. The other day my friend's 12yr dd asked me if I was cured. I had to pause a while because that has actually been on my mind a lot. I asked my dh when I am considered a survivor. He said after 5yrs. But once I stop taking the 5yr meds things could come back. So I very kindly explained to the girl that there is no way to really know. I will be watched closely and hopefully it is gone and never comes back. She simply said, "Oh." So I guess the best way to look at all this is that I am surviving every single day, one day at a time. I truly wonder, sorry to say but I think honesty is important amoung friends, that one day I will wake up with another lump and die the next day. It is not a fear that ruins my daily life, but it is a deep down heartfelt wondering that I think will just linger within me. I know many of you here have been in my same shoes and will assure me that life goes on. I know it does. Returning to work after 9months off is going to feel weird. Like I picked up where I left off. Kinda like I took a really long lunch break and now I am back to finish the days work. Like they say, life goes on. And so shall all of us. Again, thanks.

My oldest stepson just retired from the ARmy after 22 years, a Chief Warrant Officer 4, flying gunships. He drives a big macho truck plastered with stickers of crude, rude manly slogans. And smack dab in the middle of his back window is ... in bright pink ... Save the Ta Ta's ... which he displays in my honor. It made me cry! And then it made me laugh!

I will be looking for your box. I have been working on quilts all weekend for this project. We have a group getting together Friday after work to do some more. I'm so excited, becuase the quilts are turning out beautiful.

Your timing couldn't be better. I stopped home for a short time before I have to head out for an interview and then to meet up with our group to assemble/quilt breast cancer awareness quilts. The post man delivered your box to the door...BEAUTIFUL! Thank you. We will probably pass that off to our "quilter" today and then maybe a binding person. Your donation/contribution is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you Lynn for letting me know it arrived! I can't wait to see how it turns out and I hope it brings much needed money for the cause.

I forgot to include in my note that if a label is made, I would like to add that it was made in memory of Debbie Troutt, a dear friend of mine who lost her battle with breast cancer two years ago. She had beaten breast cancer two previous times and then the third time around finally took her.

We have been on OVERLOAD working on these quilts, but should be done with them this weekend, as we hae to get pictures taken to go to press with the booklet that we do as well. The actual auction is on October 31st. After the event I plan on scanning the booklet with the prices that each quilt sold for and plan to hopefully attach a PDF file to a posting here, since we don't have a web site.
