Need help with fern stand - brass and something else?
Comments (10)Yeah....canola oil will work....but tung oil is better. I know some "junkers"...people who buy stuff to garage sale out....who spray their piece with Pam. But canola and pam never really really dry....and they get dust stuck to them. Tung oil is meant to be used on furniture....and I think it has a drier in it. An alternative would be spray on lacquer....but you want to be sure you get it into all the groves or you will get rust again. An oil you brush on is best. As for the steel wool....use fine...it will scratch....but by using the fine, the scratches will be....fine!! Dip the steel wool in Brasso or BarKeepers Friend with a bit of water and scrub at those dark spots. I have a pair of mid 19th century brass push up candle sticks that were black as pitch....they had been in a fire.....they are now wonderful polished brass. Keep at it....it will happen and 10 years from now you will remember what a pain it was to clean up!!!...See MoreWant to change cartridge filter to something else
Comments (3)eyoung, we went with a Hayward Pro Series, S220T Sand Filter because it is easier to clean and backwash. I am not sure that I will see a difference in water clarity with DE, then again I do not have any experience with DE. All I can say it is very easy to clean our filter and I usually do it when the pool is very full after a good rain. Our pressure runs about 18psi and we have 2 inch plumbing and a 1.5 hp pump with 4 water features, SWG, heat pump, pool size is 6k running pump 2hrs daily. Look at our thread "Our New Pool Build in Jacksonville, FL" Hope this helps....See MoreBack wall need lots of help! French doors, wet bar, hutch (pics)
Comments (16)Proportion, yes, but also, Ravmd, what feeling are you going for? I've seen a wonderfully appealing wall, shorter than yours, but with traditional old hutches framing a single set of doors. The home I'm remembering is an old-fashioned English style, with the doors framing and concentrating a very pretty view into the garden. The kitchen was basically old white cabinetry and walls and wood floors, but looked cozy as well as bright and fresh. OTOH, looking out a very wide span of windows like Julie's would give your kitchen an entirely different feel. The associations that hop to my mind from the past are of connection to large living patios and pools, or maybe a panoramic view to the horizon (lots of those in Southern California). BTW, is your desirable view broad, or would editing out parts improve it? Are there any privacy issues? For what's in the picture you posted, my thought was keep the windows and the symmetry (I like them) but bring the upper units down to join the counters for a hutch/display rather than work counter look....See MoreStressed? Comments (3)it seems most likely to be the heat and lack of adequate watering. The line where it gets some shade along the fence seems to be less affected. You folks out West are going to have bigger problems than brown grass to come. Are you not part of the large area of drought? Maybe green grass is not in the cards for your lawn. And, maybe that is just the ugly truth. I am no expert, but it is common knowledge that grass will go dormant under stress. That is what it looks like....See Morepricklypearcactus
