Sewing?? What's that?? Seems like FOREVER since I've sewn more than 20 minutes at a time!!:( GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!
For real, I have had little ones all week, & except for 2hrs w/friends on Mon (I think we took an hour & a half for lunch:(! ) I have only sewn for 20 min one evening. I'm suffering withdrawal, here ladies!! Soon I will need a thread transfusion ~ or maybe a big bandage of batiks~ calico crutches?? - something to get me back to my beloved machine & my cherished stash!!
If someone would kindly come over & chain me to my sewing chair, I would be eternally grateful:) Then I can get back to a few swaps I'm doing,finish up birthday lotto blocks & a second round robin center.
That said, time to get off & re-introduce myself to my beloved - machine! the other beloved won't let me stay away too long -- he likes my cooking:) !

Linda, sorry to hear hubby hurt himself, but glad you got him to go to a doctor! A few weeks ago mine hurt his back so bad he could hardly walk, but he wouldn't go get it checked. Did they put it in an air cast or wrap or something?

Not sure what I'll be sewing this weekend. I have 3 more sets of blocks to assemble into tops, but can't make up my mind on designs for them. I also have 4 tops done that need quilting, so maybe I'll start on one of those.

I started making Chocolate Ripple from the book Quilts for Ice Cream Lovers by Janet Jones Worley. I have wanted to make that quilt for several years. It is looking good so far! I need to buckle down at some point and put a label and the binding on my 2010 Birthday Block Wall Hanging. It is finished except for those two things!
Linda, I hope your hubby feels better soon.
I think many of us will feel more like quilting as the weather cools down a little. We have a little break from the heat right now, but I saw that it is supposed to go up to at least 96 degrees next week. I will be happy once the 90's are totally behind us for this year!

DH and I have been on Mackinac Island, MI all week. I did bring my redwork and have spent some time on the front porch of the B&B working on it. We are flying home this afternoon, so I'll work on it on the plane too. Perhaps Sunday I will spend in the sewing room. I won't be able to get outside much in the 90+ heat.

No quilting here, either. I did work on some applique earlier in the week but there's a family reunion today and I'll probably be heading back to Indiana tomorrow. However! I was taken to a fantastic quilt shop on Thursday and bought the Ogi Fan pattern from the Shibui Quilt Collection by Sheila DeRose. I don't remember ever seeing any of these oriental patterns. Awesome!

What is it with these husbands? Mine had to go in and get a MRI done on his shoulder the other day, rotator cuff problems and now he is on pain pills and can hardly move. I was hoping to do some more sewing on DD quilt, so close to getting it pieced and then I'm going to send it out to be quilted....we are suppose to go to a picnic this afternoon but dont know if hubby will feel up to it or not, I'd rather just stay home and sew....here in the northwest the weather is pretty pleasent....

I think I have all the components put together for building my blocks in my 2 wedding quilts except for 8 small blocks. So I hope to complete all the blocks and sew the tops together! But realistically, I hope to start assembling the blocks. : )

Change in plans - started constructing my blocks and found that one strip of components is 1" too long. This will affect every block. Went back over the pattern - checked and rechecked - and from what I can see, the pattern calls for one piece to be 5" long, but it should be 4 1/2" long. There are at least 2 of these in every block. Soooo, I will be frog-stitching 400+ blocks, and trimming 800+ pieces. *sigh*

I finally got to sew today. Yesterday I took care of DH, did laundry, changed bedding, etc.. The pain meds made DH sick so I called the pharmacist about the meds. She said to take with food and cut back the dosage. That seems to work.
Today I made the pieced sashing for a sampler quilt. I have the center assembled and plan to cut and add the borders this evening.
Beverly, I hope you had a good time at Mackinac Island. I have been there 3 times and love it.
Karpet, so sorry about your blocks. If I was nearby, I would help you with the frog-stitching.
Sharon, those patterns are beautiful. Have fun with your new pattern.

Sharon, I love those Oriental patterns ... more things to add to my list! Haven't had too much time for sewing between a charity garage sale, neighborhood pig roast, church potluck & son's hockey game! I finished my center for the Round Robin - yahoo! need to put together my "notebook" to send along with my center. Started making a quilted photo album cover but couldn't find a pattern so I am going to make it up as I go. All the ones I found have you gluing your stuff to the cover. I am going to make it like a book cover so I can slide the photo album in and attach a button & loop to hold it shut. (the album is already filled with pictures from our trip to Greece/Italy) and overflowing! Maybe this evening after taking the dogs for a walk I'll get another chance to tackle this photo album project ...

Working on 4 little quilts for my DDIL and her 3 sisters. Fabrics are from their Dads old shirts . It is a challenge. The Janome is handling all the different fabrics like a real trooper!
Sorry about the DH's having accidents and injuries! Your TLC will take care of a lot!

It's almost midnight but wanted to spread the good word -- got to go thro my stash & cut yesterday for a few hours & today actually SEWED for a few hours. YIPPEE!! I re-introduced myself to my machine & altho she pouted for a little while, she got over it. Doesn't she know that if I COULD spend more time w/her I WOULD?!?
This next week is looking a lot like last--crazy busy & full of small children! Please Please! - if anything super important comes up, would someone email me?? I can check email in 5 min, QB I spend a LITTLE more time on! lol

I went to sign off & hit a key that wiped out two whole paragraphs! GRRRRRRR!!!! Guess I shouldn't be typing in the dark, huh?

Karpet...Just to let you know you are not alone, I went to sew on the last strip on the quilt I'm making and I am off a half inch and so I'm doing the same thing as you but only on one strip, I hate ripping and tearing and to make matters worst I could not find my seam-ripper so had to go to Walmart and buy another, I now probably have at least four floating around somewhere in my sewing room.LOL

So sorry Katy! I only had to rip out 40 strips and found my problem - in the directions was an illustration to trim 1/4" off both ends of the rectangle units. So, I still have to trim 800+ pieces, but it is not a mistake - it is a planned trim!? I'm so attached to my seam ripper - I'm not sure I could view another one in the same way! LOL! And I'm pretty sure someone on here has actually named their seam ripper!

I'm still in process of getting my oldest DS off to college. Whew! We moved him into a dorm Friday...got the call Saturday night that he desperately needs a new bike. DESPERATELY!!!! COME TOMORROW!!!! Oh, but don't come until 3 or 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

I pointed out that Sunday evenings weren't generally big shopping times, what with all the stores being closed and such. I'm going today, in just a few minutes, to be there after his very first class, a 1:50 Intro Chemistry. I must also bring: broom, dustpan, trash basket. Which he refused to take at first, because he says...get this...he wouldn't be tracking in dirt from just the sidewalks, and he didn't think he'd have that much to throw away in his own room.

I tell you, if I didn't laugh (discretely, to myself, when he's not looking) I'd strangle him.

Patsy - that is too funny! How far away is he? Our DS went to school about an hour from home - he was the one with the vacuum, dust pan, broom, etc... After first year he shared house with other guys & had to teach them how to mop floors! Gotta love it.

Sue, he's only 45 minutes away, door to door. I'm so glad, too, since he's a little homesick immediately and I'm a little empty(er) nesting. He took his plush cat for comfort and today I'm listening to his actual cat walk around meowing in all the rooms.

Patsy, hopefully your son will get caught up in classes and get over the homesickness quickly. And hopefully the cat will get over missing him soon, too!

I lived at home while I went to college. My DH and I got engaged early in my junior year, but decided to wait till after I graduated to get married. By the end of my senior year I was SO READY to be out of my parents' house! Just couldn't wait! Well, as soon as we were married and settled in Orlando (about an hour from my parents) I was soooooo homesick! But I don't think it lasted long.
