Hi Everyone,
Well, this is the block that I chose for my first block - entitled GRANDMOTHER'S CROSS....My grandmother was always my inspiration when it came to craftiness and sewing - and I'm the only one in the family that took after her with the sewing....I would sit and watch her day after day making everyting for the home, clothing - old garments would be come new quilts....
And so, as a tribute for where I get my love of fabric, sewing and all that that involves, here's a block for my Grandmother - Irene.
I feel that the cross block is also a tribute to her faith.
I chose the 2 gold/Ocre colors for the cross because these is one of my favourite colours...modern day prints and styles.....the small green motifs is a 1930 repro. print which represents the time period when my Grandmother would have perhaps been in her sewing prime...getting married, starting a family. The cream for me would represent the purity of life back on the little Island in Newfoundland where I grew up....so there you have it - my first block, all about me...

Wonderful blocks.This is going to be a great- looking at the blocks and reading the reasons they were chosen. Red, I always liked fairy tales too. My favorites were Little Red Riding Hood and Three Little Pigs- the wolf always fascinated me LOL. Bill, I can relate to your story. My grandmother did sewing and knitting but spent a lot of her winter hours at rug hooking. I lived with her for the first 8 years of my life. Seems like many of the houses in my area of Newfoundland had a frame set up for hooking rugs.

I added a glitter sheer tulle fabric over the hair and the dress never worked with tulle before....

Do we have to have until the end of Sept. to finish the 1st. block? I see people are getting theirs done and I have just begun to think about what I plan on doing. Maybe I need to rethink mine. Jayne

I have mine done and will try and get a picture of it taken and then figure out how to get it posted. I have the instructions but even my DD had some trouble with it last time. This will be fun to see the next block assignment. Deanna
