LG French Door Model# LFX25950ST
Comments (27)Patti - Yeah,... I haven't had a cube of ice out of this thing since they brought it in here last Tuesday. And I am kinda nervous, not so much with the model itself but more with the customer service I read about coming from LG. I did purchased the 4 year EW though, but I hear that's not that much better. footballmom - Yeah,... I am getting water out of the dispener, so I know the water line is attached and turned on. Nice call! Just no ice. I've even tried turning the icemaker off for a while, just in case the switch was reversed somehow (I've seeen that before on certian things),... no change. I can't get a clear look into the water cells to see if there's water actually in either of the six cells, can't hear whether water is filling up the cells eiher (this thing is so quite when closed). If water (by now ice) is in those cells, then it's got to be a problem with the mechanism. I took some ice out of the fridge under the wet-bar in the basement and put it in the LG bucket to ses if the auger worked and ice would fall out of the dispenser,... it works well and the cubes fell. But it's not making ice on it's own. HD says it maybe because of the delivery damage, but I can't see those bumps causing this,... I wouldn't think this thing is that tender! Im' just on the fence as to accept another 950 or add a few bucks and have them bring out a 960. Upside,... I hear I'll be getting a newer model with a few more features and some problems worked out (Patti, I hear the food freezing in the crisper thing was fixed with the 960 by way of their newly designed drawers). Downside,... I'll be getting a unit not as aesthetically pleasing (I like the gray case and trim better than the black). Hell,... I guess I could always spend way more than we budgeted and opt for the 980. Yeah right,... I'd then be updating you good folks on how I made out in divorce court. Comments (68)March 26, 2013: re: Kenmore Elite Oasis HE issues (start and rinse cycle issues, unbalanced issues): Electronic Control Board (aka the motherboard, the brains) recall, replacement and labor at no charge: Thank you to those who posted correct ph number to resolve these problems! Here is the ph number again: (800) 847-9083. We have an appt scheduled" to receive the updated electronic control board, service and labor-@ no charge" per the product resolution customer service rep. You may assume all went well if I do not post a follow up. DO ask the product resolution customer rep to REPEAT your model #, serial #, your ph # and address (she typed part of the serial # incorrectly which could disqualify you receiving replacement recall). The customer serv reps' work environment is NOISY (she replied "there are 213 problem resolution reps in the same room"). VERIFY what you are hearing the rep say and ask kindly for a summary why you called and what the resolution is to be. She spoke rapidly and had an accent. Verify any numbers you have not verified (including your ph # and address) at the end of the call. The customer resolution rep had obvious experience handling the process, obviously streamed lined due all the years of issues complaints and it took about 20-25 minutes total time, most time was waiting for her to process the info she enters. Our Kenmore Oasis washing machine has been highlyt problematic issues during the start cycle and rinse cycles as well as frequent unbalanced loads (error code: UL). Our model and serial numbers complied with the recall (I have read this is a "silent", unadvertised recall. We have an appointment scheduled "to receive an updated electronic control board and the labor service at no charge". Hope this works out (believe it when I see it and when it continues as resolved) and wishes for resolutions to those who are working towards theirs. We all learned a big lesson in the world of electronic motherboard computerized washers and driers: buy the old fashioned, dependable washers and driers with knobs! (I'm staying this route with everything appliance and vehicles). I will def will stay my computer pref as a MacGurl though!...See MoreKitchenaid/Kenmore/etc. DW fires
Comments (12)This is from a Feb. 2, 2012 news report -the last line really caught my eye because I ALWAYS run my dishwasher before bed or leaving for work!! What does everyone else do? SEATTLE -- Consumer Reports is sounding a warning about appliances in your kitchen that can suddenly catch fire. One fire in a home started in the kitchen, caused by a toaster. "It was just horrendous, just horrendous," said Beverly Uberti. "What wasn't destroyed by fire was destroyed by smoke and water damage." Another fire started in a family's dishwasher while they were out of the house. A third erupted in a microwave, even though it wasn't being used. Consumer Reporters poured through 69,000 reports of house fires blamed on appliances, and found that a significant number of those fires were not caused by human error. "We found at least 23 percent are clearly attributable to problems with the appliances - mechanical, electrical, or design flaws," said Dan Diclerico with Consumer Reports. "In some instances, the appliances turned on by themselves." Faulty appliances causing the most fires were ranges, dryers, air conditioners, refrigerators, and dishwashers. "In the last five years, more than 7 million dishwashers have been recalled due to defects that could cause a fire," Diclerico said. "And nearly eight million other appliances have been recalled for fire risks." Checking for recalls at recalls.gov is a good way to be alerted to problems. There are reasons that there more recalls due to fire hazards. "Appliances have gotten a lot more complex, so more can go wrong," Diclerico said. "And many recalled products are being manufactured abroad, the majority in China." Consumer Reports says until appliance design and quality are improved, homeowners are left with plenty to be concerned about. The magazine says homeowners should register new appliances with the manufacturer so they'll get recall notices. Another tip: Don't run your dryer or dishwasher overnight or when you're away....See MoreWhat is the largest thing you ever lost in the kitchen?
Comments (46)ci-lantro, your story reminded me of this old joke (one of my favs!) So there's this fella with a parrot. And this parrot swears like a sailor, I mean he's a pistol. He can swear for five minutes straight without repeating himself. Trouble is, the guy who owns him is a quiet, conservative type, and this bird's foul mouth is driving him crazy. One day, it gets to be too much, so the guy grabs the bird by the throat, shakes him really hard, and yells, "QUIT IT!" But this just makes the bird mad and he swears more than ever. Then the guy gets mad and locks the bird in a kitchen cabinet. This really aggravates the bird and he claws and scratches, and when the guy finally lets him out, the bird cuts loose with a stream of invective that would make a veteran sailor blush. At that point, the guy is so mad that he throws the bird into the freezer. For the first few seconds there is a terrible din. The bird kicks and claws and thrashes. Then it suddenly gets very quiet. At first the guy just waits, but then he starts to think that the bird may be hurt. After a couple of minutes of silence, he's so worried that he opens up the freezer door. The bird calmly climbs onto the man's out-stretched arm and says, "Awfully sorry about the trouble I gave you. I'll do my best to improve my vocabulary from now on." The man is astounded. He can't understand the transformation that has come over the parrot. Then the parrot says, "By the way, what did the chicken do?"
