Suggestions for naming a small black Cockapoo puppy

Looks like there will soon be a new addition to our family!

My brother who just lost his 16 year old poodle mix is hoping to pick up a black Cockapoo pup this weekend. I don't have a picture yet but it is solid black with wavy to curly hair. We need suggestions for a name. Anyone?

We had a black cocker spaniel when the kids were little. Her registered name was Black Magic. We called her Magic.

I love the names Molly or Maggie for females. I SO badly wanted to name our Misery Molly, DH vetoed me on that.(not sure I will ever forgive him either!) He said if I got her he got to name her.he wasn't sure he wanted her, let along a 6 month old pup...and he was sure a pup was going to be pure misery for him. So he insisted her name was Misery. She got the last laugh on him though! She is the sweetest Doxie and was the easiest dog to train, and turned into his best couch buddy! LOLOL Now somehow her name has been shortened to Miss!

I was thinking it is perhaps a Vaccinium, but I don't think it is that. V. arboreum has very small berries and the leaves are (generally) smaller in shape and redder in fall color. Of course the ones in Arkansas might be different than the ones in Georgia. What about Gaylussacia, Huckleberry? The plant may be too tall for huckleberry .... I believe that counting the number of seeds helps to distinguish huckleberries from blueberries. Huckleberries supposedly have 10 seeds whereas blueberries have more.

Front Yard Small Flowering Tree Suggestions

Okay, finallly after all the great suggestions I ended up spending some money....and wishing I had still more room for a few other great suggestions. The Dogwoody shrub that wants too be a tree thing has been moved to the far back yard with other shrub Dogwoods. In it's place is a young Fringe Tree, Chionanthus Virginicus, about 5.5 feet tall from a local nursery. Because there were so many good suggestions, I also picked up a Red Buckeye that was on sale at the same local nursery as it was leftover from last year. Looks good, lots of good buds. It is on the north side of the Virginicus, towards the back. On the corner, between the two, is a rather columnar and tall 11' Tricolor Beech that I found after checking several Menard's stores (the first two I found were gone when I went back for them). It's in a great location, but sadly, I don't think it will end up working out too well. The tree has lots of good new buds, but I wasn't able to check it out real well when I saw it as it was raining pretty hard (the beginning of the deluge y'all saw on the TV of the Chicago area getting hammered). Once I had the hole dug and started to unpot it, I saw that it had been balled and burlapped before being put in the pot. Removing the burlap, it didn't have much of a rootball and looked to have a graft section that had been cut off when it was dug up. Hmm. My first thought was to bring it back, but then what else would I put in the hole I'd dug? Then I realized I have all year to see how it does before I have to bring it back. So I planted it and am anxious to see how it goes through the spring and summer. I've had some things with a lesser rootball that survived well with some extra attention, and I figure I'll give this guy a chance at a happy life first. Picture is of the tree in the yard, trunk still wrapped and some staking in case the wind gets tough. Kind of hard to see with no leaves, though. Next picture is of the rootball and graft section. Should be an interesting spring and summer, still need to find room for a Kousa, though...

Black cabinets in small kitchen?
Q
Comments (36)
enigmaquandry, I am fascinated by the challenges of kitchens in small urban spaces, so I just spent a good amount of time surfing for pictures of galley kitchens. Most of what I found were kitchens with nearer windows than yours has, and many are "galley" in their layout, but with a much larger space or open to the adjoining room. Given the relative lack of natural light in your kitchen proper, you might want to give as much thought to your lighting as your color scheme. Your current overhead lighting is pretty diffuse and tends to wash things out in a way that might well persist even if you install a higher contrast color scheme. Many people on this forum have installed recessed lighting, and that always is good for dramatic looks, but it would require rewiring your kitchen. Faced with a similar dilemma in a rental unit I own, I replaced the existing fixture with a track and three lights that can be directed in various directions. It did not work any better than its predecessor for task lighting, but it did make the room much more inviting. The only kitchen configured like yours I found in the Finished Kitchens Blog is joycedc's. The problem is that none of her photos show the kitchen with the lights on. It may be worth your while to peruse the apartmenttherapy.com web site, both its kitchen sections and its submissions for its "small cool" contest, to see if you get some ideas. Another thing to look for -- although tricky to search for -- is kitchen pics taken at night, so you can see the light effects without natural light. To see the difference, albeit in a kitchen quite different from yours, check out the page of what people have done with the used cabinets they bought from Green Demolitions. The second to the last entry on the page -- the Mastrianni's -- has before and after pictures, but with the after pictures taken at night. It just shows how impressive dramatic lighting can be. Finally, if you are in an apartment building, you might leave notes with various of your neighbors in similar apartments, asking if they would be willing to show you what they have done with their kitchens. People who accomplish great things with tricky spaces tend to be happy to show them off. Here is a link that might be useful: Green Demolitons Success Stories

Need suggestions—cat bullying small dog
Q
Comments (13)
It's great that he has bonded so quickly with your older dog and that is probably helping him settle in much faster. When using the water bottle, the key is to spray it before the cat is actually chasing the dog......it's all in the timing and sometimes you have to wait until the last minute. If you end up running after the cat with the water bottle, it has then become a game. Another option is to distract the cat(s) with a toy and then give the bully cat a treat if he starts playing. It's sad the 16 yr old cat is getting bullied. If you haven't already, try using at least 2 of the Feliway (Ceva) plug-ins. It made such a difference in my two cats adjusting to each other and helped keep my diva female in check. Also, try rearranging the cat towers (hope you have one), adding new interesting toys and perches for the bully cat and play with him more to use up his energy. Sounds like some of his antics may be due to boredom. I know it's not easy with a bully cat. I fostered a 2 yr old that just wouldn't leave my 2 older cats alone. He would totally ignore any distraction from me when his goal was to charge my docile cats and one could tell he had claimed my home as his castle ;). Fortunately, he was adoped a month later.

I think it's hard to name a puppy until you have lived with it for a while.Sometimes a name will just "fit".
I just gave a little Chi/Doxie mix to my DGD.I had her a month and named her Missy because it just seemed to fit her.She changed it to Midget. She said because it fit.LOL To each his own I guess.

We had a black cockapoo some 30 years ago when first married....his name was Sparky.
Best dog ever. He already had his name as DH and I were watching a news show one day and they had animals for adoption from the humane society. This little black puppy came on and I thought he was so cute and went ga ga over him. Next day I came home from work and there he was! DH went and got him for me!

My Dad's black Cockapoo was named Pepper, his white one was named Snowball. After they crossed the bridge, Dad got two more, black and white. He gave them different names, but keeps referring to them as Snowball and Pepper!

I have a little golden Cockerpoo, her name is Bella Donna, Bella for short. I named her after my mom, her name was Donna Belle. It just seemed to fit her so perfectly. Years ago, I had a larger golden Cockerpoo and named her Sprite. I don't know where I came up with that one. She seemed to fit into that name though.

I like Coal also or Moonshine, but Coal is easier to call a dog by.

To me, naming them their color is too cliche but occasionally it can work. I have to agree that sometimes names just fit the critter so until you see it, experience it and get to know it, it's tough to get a good name.

When my one cat was brought to me (they asked me to save her) the poor thing was traumatized. She hid behind the dryer and I couldn't get her out of hiding in the basement for days. Once I got her up and she settled down a bit but still had quirks of temper (from being abused). It was unpredictable. It was like she'd go crazy at times and I started calling her the crazy cat. Morphed into Krazee Cat and I started calling her KC for short. It just fit. And I thought it was a decent enough name. Her name from previous owners was "Kitty". The mother said she'd always call any cat "kitty" anyway so she'd name their cats Kitty. Anyway, KC has relaxed and become a fantastic cat and not showing the fits of craziness anymore so I've said she's changed her moniker from Krazee Cat to Kitty Cat.

Now the other cat is another story.

Snuggles
Blackie
Bart (as in Black Bart)
Black Beauty ( although I think that a dog's name should not be two words, else the dog may not easily associate with the name.)

Don't name him anything that would sound embarrasing when you call out the backsoor loud enough for the neignbors to hear. Imagine what it would sound like for your shout out:
"Here LoverBoy" or "Here Crumb".

I love big names for example "Brutus" for little dogs especially if owned by a male.

I like to see the personality of a dog before I name it. My dog is named Loki - God of Mischief because he was a little devil and always was getting into things.

I had Amos - a black lab I named after my Dad. Then we could say "No Amos" something we could never say to my Dad. LOL

Arrow was called that because of a song that was out at the time "Me and My Arrow" and he also had a white tip on his tale.

Dub was named after a sports player.

My neighbour called their dog "Cash" because he cost so much.

Let the name come naturally and then it will suit him.

I am glad your brother got another dog.

I have a blonde Labrador named Tilly. I originally wanted to call it Bonnie, but Tilly fitted her much better. I also have a Bichon frise called Bell. I would always name a dog after you see them or when you know how they act. As in you could call the dog Scruffs or Snuggles as in he is scruffy or he always wants a hug.
Female Names -
Sparky
Bell (Bella)
Daisy
Midnight
Maddy

Hope you find a great name that fits x
