Thanks much guys! -LL, that is a blue(ish) "Glory of the Snow", Chionodoxa forbesii. I looked it up and it is hardy in zone 4, maybe 3. They would look fantastic in your fairy garden area!! How are your daffs doing? -Hey Spogarden! I think I am good on both of those, but thanks so much for asking! You may already know this, but the big Plant Expo at the Spokane Community College is on the 14th. Didn't know I had QUITE so many primroses until I started taking all of these pics! Got some of the double ones on a sale rack for a buck each a few years ago. Then when the stores put the no longer blooming plants on the sale rack I tend to snap up a few! Thanks for looking ;-) CMK

Cindy: When your SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS blooms, do post a pic. I've got that one too from Curt but it is not a star performer here yet. Debra: This many blooms this late has to be due to the amount of rain we got over the past month. I don't recall this much showing at this late date. Mantis: yes, earlier pics of GEECHEE were better but just shows how much a late opening with cool temps can do to a daylily. Celeste: I've admired your pics of COUSIN SUZANNE. The race is definitely on here too! Linda and Kay: I'm so thankful to get these blooms this late in the season. I'm always on the scape hunt because I just never know what will show itself. KIOWA SUNSET has always been a favorite of mine. It is registered as a EE but here, it doesn't start blooming till early July and the scapes are taller than 23" as registered. Well, the weather turned and we are already up at 60 degrees F here this morning. Rain, rain, rain so I guess that is why our temps moderated. Julia

Thanks everyone....Diana this one isn't quite the same as the old recipe for the which I used to make, because the addition of 1 lb of quark turns it into more of a tangy cheesecake type of dessert, and lower in fat than if it were all whipped cream. I'm sure peppermint would also combine nicely with the chocolate. Your stacked version looks like a good party item too! Quark comes in a choice of fat content and is generally considered a healthy option to sour cream or all whipped cream. The one I used for this is made from semi-skinned milk with a 6% fat content. It's still rich I know, and I've never been one to promote overly-rich desserts, lol, as I generally keep away from them all. From searching the web it seems that a half & half combo of cream cheese and low fat ricotta or just all ricotta or creme fraiche would substitute for the quark if one doesn't find it in a shop. Kcc - Don't know whether or not you're in the minority here, but you are not alone! If you're concerned that the gray is drab and will make you feel claustrophobic, listen to your instincts. Just because gray is the chic color of the moment does not mean that it's right for you or your room. Gray is a very difficult color. It will make a room look like the interior of a submarine if the furnishings and other colors are not close to perfectly done. In addition, you have that large beautiful window. What kind of climate do you have? Gray days, rainy days? Imagine being in a home with dogs and a small child on a gray drizzly day with gray walls (and brown drapes) framing the view. I would paint all the walls, except for that nice red one in your dining room, a rich, deep cream - or, as others have suggested, a gold that would look good with your tan furniture. Those colors would keep the room bright and cheerful. Are you very attached to that rug? Could you put it somewhere else in your home? IMO it's the one element that's throwing everything else off. The colors and style don't coordinate with the rest of your furnishings and wall colors. Could you try going with bare floors for awhile? Then eventually get an oriental rug that contains all your colors - gold and tan and red and some blue/green. This would pull everything together and warm up the space. And it would also better hide what the doggies and baby might do to it!

I love seeing your daughter's cakes. Wish you'd show us more often. She is really awesome. Do they taste as good as they look? That has always been my problem, finding cakes, including wedding cakes, that taste as good as they are beautiful.

I have plenty of pictures but hate to bore you all, she made a wedding cake and birthday cake for last weekend and has another wedding cake on order for next weekend I think it is.

I don't think pictures of her cakes could bore us! I'm just amazed at how perfect and intricate these cakes are. Out of curiosity, how much does she get for a cake that the one you showed?

Lydia she works through a caterer, for the cakes above she charged $50.00 each sounds like alot of money to me but the orders keep arriving for different cakes.

I can't believe she only charges $50. Around here, cakes like that go for $500-$600 and they aren't quite as nice as hers. I wish I had that kind of talent. She sure has a gift.

And I concur that we will never get sick of her cake pics. I am so impressed.
