Pay website with oldies music to burn to cd?

Is there a website that I'd be able to burn oldies such as 40's/50's/60's music? I don't mind paying for the music but don't want to pay a fee if they don't have the music I'm looking for.Is there a place I could get an idea of the type of music they offer?

Any info will be helpful.

I use Winmx. It's free and no spyware. It's a file-sharing program.

I get an error message telling me that WinMX was unable to make an outgoing TCP connection to it's server.
I'm connected to the internet and I lowered my security and it still wouldn't let me in. I had WinMX before I changed computers from Win.2000 to XP this weekend. When I went to WinMX they told me that my time was expired with them.
Wish I could get them back.

Downloading programs is now very popular. Asking for a free CD makes sense, however most charge a fee. So in that case why couldn't you simply burn the download to a CD or DVD and save the money? New computers come with the recovery program on a second partition on the hard drive. Too many people fail to burn the recovery partition to CDs. If the hard drive fails it is 'goodbye' to all the recovery data. Sometimes vendors set a limit on the number or installs allowed and control that by forcing the buyer to log in for activation. That is alright most of the time but not for a person with a troublesome computer, it can become frustrating. This is where disk cloning software comes into it's own.

I took a quick look at a review for the InstantMusic box and it is just the kind of thing I'm talking about. I actually have a stereo system (receiver, turntable, cassette deck, CD player) hooked up to an Onkyo audio hub (no longer made) which then feeds my Macintosh. Works great. Mine just converts to bits, and the software I use has to convert into the various music formats; this goes one step further. For $40 or so, it looks like just the ticket. The various music formats. There are a bunch of them. AAC, MP3, and WMA are the most popular. AAC is the format used on iPods and Apple's iTunes by default. Apple claims that AAC results in better-sounding files that are the same size as MP3 files. I don't know anyone who has a particular opinion on that, though I'm sure this is discussed to death elsewhere on the Internet. Music you buy from the Apple iTunes Music Store also is AAC-encoded. One disadvantage is that music from the iTunes Music Store has additional coding that makes it difficult to move those files to a non-Apple player (the main exception being iTunes for Windows). MP3 is the more generic format. iPods can play MP3s as can digital audio players from whoever is left in the business (Apple owns about 80% of the legal digital music business). WMA is a Windows Audio format. I don't know a lot about WMA other than Microsoft would prefer you use it. :-) I have not heard that it sounds significantly better or worse than any other format (including ones I haven't mentioned here); the big issue with WMA is that if you're not using a Windows-based system for playback, it will be harder for you to find a player for WMA-encoded files. Not impossible; just harder. It's not as popular a format as AAC or MP3. The general things to remember about digital audio formats are 1) that the smaller the file, the less good it sounds. That may not be a big deal if you're listening through iPod earbuds or a portable speaker or your cell phone -- it may sound just fine through those devices. It might be a bigger deal if you pipe your music to a quality home stereo. But it costs you pretty much nothing to try it for yourself; and 2) unless you have access to an "uncompressed" digital file of the music (or the original record/tape/CD), once you "rip" it into one of these formats, converting it to another format often causes some audible damage to the file. Then there's the labor that entails. So you might want to think just a bit about the format in which you want your music. It would be a pain to have to convert hundreds of files if you decide to move to another player that can't handle your chosen format.

Hi, I downloaded this software from the website listed below to record my albums and tapes to CD, using the computer. It was very easy to use. The program comes with audible instructions and wizards to walk you through it (including which jacks to use on your computer). It will automatically set the record level or you can adjust it however you like. It did not require a pre-amp...just plug in the tape deck to your computer. The turntable may or may not need a pre-amp, but the program will detect it, to let you know.I got the wire to hook it up at Radio Shack for just a few dollars. One end will have the RCA ends for your stereo equipment, and the other end will have the miniature jack for your computer. There was no loss of quality, and I was able to actually get a better sound on some songs with the built in equalizer. Hook the stereo equipment to the computer, put a blank CD-R disc in the drive, and the program will do the rest. Hope this helps. Here is a link that might be useful: Record Albums to CD

well, some of my CDs have other functional pieces of paper--the lyrics, for example. I have a frustration with people always saying "get it on the Internet." I think this is often specious. My husband tossed his clips from his old publication, because he figured he could always get them off the company's website--nope, they purged. Someone once suggested I could save money by reading the newspaper on the Internet--yeah, sure, I can do that on the train, and can tell SO quickly (not) that a story is not interesting to me. W/ print, I can skim an ENTIRE PAGE of 4 stories (I read a tabloid-size) in about 3 seconds. Not true if I have to download them story by story. Headlines aren't often enough to tell whether I want to read them. And when I'm wondering if this is the same backup singer, or who it was that wrote the song this artist is covering, I don't want to have to go INTO the bedroom, and turn on the computer, and wait for it to boot up, and then call up a website, and search through several layers until I find the information I want on that song. Folks at my last publication wanted us to put the style book on the intranet. Sure, so I'd have to do lots more work w/ technology I'm not comfortable with, just to update it. And I have to switch from the window I'm working IN, to some OTHER window, and then back--I wouldn't be able to have them both open at the same time. And it would probably be longer--certainly not faster--than grabbing the paper, which is always in the same spot on my desk, and flipping to the fourth page. Phone lists, too--I use a printout here. I don't have to leave Quark for IE, clip on the menu, scroll down to the phone list, type in the name, hit enter, and wait for the search. There are times the intranet phone list is useful, but lots of times it's slower. And, we have dial-up, and it takes a while. Even if we had DSL or cable, or even a T-1 line with instant access--I don't keep my computer on all the time, and I don't want to go to TWO places to get stuff. That's why I won't ditch all my recipes "because I can get them again on the Internet." I'll ditch the ones I'm pretty sure I won't ever use, but I'm keeping America's Cookie Chips in paper version, because I may not be *able* to find them on the Internet in a year when I decide to make them again. And, I'll keep them in paper, because it's less work than going to the computer in a year, booting up (tap, tap, tap, tap...), opening of the folder, then the file (and Word, tap, tap, tap...), then printing it out. i figure, if I only keep the recipes I actually think I'll try, they won't take more space than the stuff I often use. I get frustrated when people act as though storing something on the computer is automatically more wonderful than storing it in real space, real time, the analog world. I'm sorry if I took it out on you, blazedog. And Marie26, we're not helping you w/ much practical advice or product-finding, are we? All I can do is commiserate, and to suggest againt that you give a serious look at the idea of trimming the edges off those sheets so they'd fit--you might be surprised to see how little you need to cut off. I figure, if you did resell them, you're selling them used, surely the buyer won't care much?

I have xp and my winmx works fine.
Did you do the pie patch?
It could be a number of things...I know just enough about winmx to be dangerous.

WinMX downloads are not legal!!!

You are pirating music from them and can be prosecuted for theft. It does happen.

If you choose to use it - that is your choice, but you should not recommend it to others without warning them of the possibilty of legal troubles.

I am not sure about oldies. My DD gets music from iTunes, but she is sure not getting oldies, LOL!

I use LimeWire. It's a free site and does warn you about copyright laws.

I also use iTunes for my iPod.

LimeWire downloads are also illegal. Sometimes their wording on copyright laws are a bit vague. They can make it sound like it is not illegal.

File sharing is not illegal, but sharing songs with copyrights is - and pretty much 99.9% of all music on these sites is copyrighted.

I do know someone who was fined for it, and it isn't cheap! Several thousand dollars. So they DO go after people. That makes .99 songs pretty cheap in the long run.

I am astonished that people continue to use peer to peer illegal downloading services.

Hasn't anyone been keeping up with the fines and prosecutions over this?

This from the UK dated February 2008:

"People who illegally download films and music will be cut off from the internet under new legislative proposals to be unveiled next week.

Internet service providers (ISPs) will be legally required to take action against users who access pirated material, The Times has learnt.

Users suspected of wrongly downloading films or music will receive a warning e-mail for the first offence, a suspension for the second infringement and the termination of their internet contract if caught a third time, under the most likely option to emerge from discussions about the new law.

Broadband companies who fail to enforce the "three-strikes" regime would be prosecuted and suspected customersÂ details could be made available to the courts. The Government has yet to decide if information on offenders should be shared between ISPs. "

The federal jury in Duluth just came back with its verdict in Capitol Records v. Jammie Thomas, the file-sharing trial I just wrote about below. Thomas was found liable for infringing upon music copyrights by downloading songs from Kazaa. According to Ars Technica's excellent Eric Bangeman at the scene, the jury awarded the plaintiff $9,250 per song. For getting 24 songs, Thomas must pay $222,000, the panel determined.

The music industry had shown that Thomas' computer -- her IP address -- was linked to many downloads. Her username on Kazaa was Terrastar, the same name she used for getting into her computer, for her e-mail, for online shopping sites, and for her profile on Match.com. "

The site below seems to explain things well.

LimeWire and other file-sharing software is legal. Using it to upload or download copyright protected media -- music, videos, images, software -- without the copyright holder's consent is illegal because it is theft.

*is* stealing. And anyone who thinks they are going to continue to get away with it is dreaming. The music industry is cracking down on piracy just like the movie industry has. Same issues, different media.

Like Iowagirl says, it's worth the 99 cents to buy music legally.

In another article I read on line, it said that computer repair techs are instructed by law to report finding such things on a computer when it is brought in for repair.

Both Walmart.com and Puretracks.com offer legal music downloads for a reasonable fee. There is no charge to browse their selections to see if they have the song(s)or artist(s) that you are interested in.

well unless you are quite tech savy you need to pay for music. even my DH who is extremely tech savy does not use most of the programs out there, he won't pay even for maor software lol. me, i don't have time to waste trialing out all the fake downloads of music companies put out there to throw stealers off, so i go to apple or my DH lol.

LimeWire is TOTALLY ILLEGAL unless you pay. YOU WILL BE CAUGHT BY YOUR ISP. we used it only twice and Brighthouse cable served us w/ a cease order... ~ liz

Amazon has mp3 downloads for a modest price individual song or album. you can download to you computer then burn a cd.

I use Walmart.com. Download through Windows media player. Simple as pie.. :-)
