Trying to burn photos

I did a search on this forum first to see if I could find an answer to my problem, but things suggested I have previously tried with no success.

In 1997 I got my first computer which was an HP from Wal-Mart. It served me well, but I wanted to update so the grandchildren got the HP. I burned many CDs with no problems - both music and data.

In 2006 I got a new system from a local tech. who recommended the following:

and I wish I would have gotten a flat screen instead of the CRT monitor. I saw somewhere that the resolution and the side view were better on the CRT, but I am up close, and the resolution was as good on my HP.

Since 2006 I have not burned one CD. I talked to him several times, and tried what he suggested, but nothing has changed. My computer is showing I have a total of 111GB, 20.7GB used, 90.9GB available. I have plenty of space but I would like to get all of the photos on to a CD or DVD. When I first got this computer I got a large package of Memorex CD-Rws 12 x 700MB 80 min, and Maxell DVD-RW 4.7GB 2 hrs SP modes. I have probably ruined half

of them. I can view my old CDs. My computer guy once told me that I probably would only use the DVD for playing games, and movies. Why bother getting a DVD burner if it is not easily accessible for burning DVDs? By what I have seen on this forum maybe CDs are the better way to burn anyway. I have saved some photos on the Floppy, but the discs hold so much more. By the way, I am using Nero.

I called him again today, but he has not returned my call. He probably remembered me and thought 'oh, no, not again'. I have not bothered him since this was only my third time to ask him some questions. I even visited his store once, and he made sense, and I tried what he suggested, but nothing changed & I didn't bother to call him back. He was pleasant, but I kind of felt he thought I might not ever get the CD thing.

I use the computer for e-mail, shopping, greeting cards, hobbies, record keeping and editing my MANY photos from my Nikon D50. These projects are all successful, but I am sure disheartened with trying to burn CDs/DVDS.

ok you are trying to burn to cd and or dvd and using roxio but what exactly is happening? you need to let us know what is going on what symptoms what is it doing or not doing. Have you tried another burning program other than nero? there are some very good free ones available that may work for you better than nero.

I know a lot of people that use the cd burnerxp and love it.
I would try using another program and maybe you can get the hang of it better than nero or at least know if it is just nero that is not working on your pc, if other programs won't work also then you would have to look to your actual burner itself.

Personally when I want to burn my pics to cd I just open my pictures folder hilight the ones I want to transfer right click on those hilighted ones and select my cd burner from the list to send them to. Have you tried doing that or even just dragging them and dropping them from where they are on to your cd drive letter?

What exactly have you tried and not tried.

OK, you have Nero, open it up and click Nero Express, select Data DVD, click Add and browse to the folder where your pictures are stored, highlite the photos you want to burn, click add, then close.
All the photos will now be added, click next, click burn.

You were smart to get the DVD burner, burns CD and 4.7GB on a single sided DVD disk.

Let us know what happens or what you're doing in Nero.
Be sure to find Nero Express, the Burning Rom is for stuff that you're not doing.

How much of the fertilizer did you use? How big is your lawn? I'm assuming you're on the Wasatch front somewhere. If so, you've probably got Kentucky bluegrass (KBG) or tall fescue (maybe a mixture). It's going to be getting hot and dry pretty soon, so it'll be tough to keep new grass happy through the summer. If you've got secondary water, you'll have a better chance, but if not, I'd wait until late summer to seed. The KBG may have filled in by then, anyway. Timing a seeding project here can be tough because there's so little time between when the heat breaks and when we get our first frost that there isn't much leeway. I've been getting better results by seeding after it has gotten too cold for the grass to sprout. The seed sits there over winter and when it warms up in the spring, it sprouts with the snow melt and any rains that we get. That tends to work better than a "normal" spring seeding because it gives a bit of a head start to the new grass so it has a better chance to make it through the summer.

Well, I had to work late yesterday and did not get a chance to ck the plants. Contacting the nursery will not work though; I obtained the two plants from a nursery that I ran into while traveling thru East Texas. I will just chalk it up to experience. At least the plants cost just $6 each so I am not off a lot of money. At planting time, I did not notice any root problems. But I did notice very little root growth (compared to a hydrangea that I also bought from them). When loosening the soil of both azaleas, I hardly saw roots growing against the plastic container. I think the azaleas/hydrangea were leftover from last year since they were leafless and the azaleas recently received by the nursery were green, bushy, flowering and located elsewhere on the grounds. As far as replacing R. canescens, I am planning to ask one of the local nurseries if they can special order natives from their distributor. Otherwise, I may ck one of the internet/mail order nurseries like Lazy K in Georgia. Question.... When one has root rot on a plant, should one also get rid of the soil where the plant was growing? CDs are used for storage but executable files can be ran from them - all you programs are loaded via the CD/DVD. Yes, all files burned to CD become read only and if you copy any back to your hard drive you will need to change the name if you intend to modify the file. I know nothing about re-writable CDs but I would suggest you erase everything when wiping it. Do not apologise for asking seemingly basic questions, asking is learning.

I have no problem with the software, have actually found one, free but limited, only 36 pics. allowed, and it re-codes,formats,etc, and plays in our 2 DVD players, however would like one that allows more pics. and also don't know how long, I can use this one before they bug me to pay for full version.. so figured someone here knew of a total free one? this one also erases or formats and writes over a DVD-RW, has very kewl transitions too, seems ashame to burn 15 mins. on a 2 hr. DVD..wish they made shorter length DVD's??

THANKS!!! It was late last night when I checked back and did not see the additional replies, but I tried Nero again, but I had no success. I downloaded CD burnerxp last night and tried it this morning and it worked!!! It was so simple. I no longer feel like a dimwit. I will get back to it after I come home from work this evening. I am going to remove Nero and then reinstall it. I will try Randy and Urlee's advice before I remove it just in case I didn't do something right the first time, second time and third time. : )

yes it is a good free program and quite easy to use, many people prefer it over the pay for programs. I am very happy to hear you had success!

Just a quick note to let you know I am now able to use BOTH programs. I did have a bit of trouble when I was erasing a DVD-RW in the CD burnerxp program. When it gave me the warning screen and I was proceeding with the erasing it locked up. I was eventually able to eject the DVD, but not exit from the program. I did a reboot which I guess is not recommended, but everything seems to be working fine now.
