How to make Crocosmia happy?
Comments (17)I had no great success with Lucifer in my old garden though I tried it a number of times. The soil was rich, but it was up in a raised bed so I don't think it was a drainage issue. All I got the second year after planting was a few weak shoots. In my new garden, it is planted in less well amended soil, *on a slope* here, sandy subsoil, so that I know the drainage is good. I also know that the plant is far less crowded than in the old one. From a quart pot in 2005, I had a clump 3-4' across by this year, loaded with flowers and setting the hummers into a frenzy. Loved it! My newer garden is definitely colder than the old place too, winter temps are consistently 5 degrees colder, and I have never protected the plant. Based on my experience, I suspect that good drainage and uncrowded conditions helped with success. I have also overwintered Star of Babylon 2 years without any coddling. It hasn't increased as fast but seems to be settled in, blooms later and has larger orangey flowers. I find these plants very appealing -- in, before, and after bloom. They have much better than average presence in the garden after bloom than most perennials, and I am eager to try as many as I can find. Some will not make in a zone 5b climate, but, who knows........See MorePretty Yellow and Orange Photos inside- Click Me :)
Comments (31)Lovely pictures everyone! Coffeemoms picture Carmem wanted the name of is cornukaempferia aurantifolia. Mine just started to sprout I am surprised how far along yours is. Beautiful. Trini I tried to make mine a standard also which is why I hate the thorns. LOL everytime I went to trim it I found an excuse why it didn't really need it. I would love to see a picture of your plant sometime, I bet its beautiful....See MoreWhat makes YOU happy today?
Comments (69)Haven't read this post yet, glad I did...It makes ME happy! Other things for today, second day of waking up pain free and basking in the wonderfully funny dreams I'd had. DH actually left the seat down in the master bath. Going to bake banana bread, baked ziti, and a whole host of things so we've got them packed nicely in the freezer. I'm SUPER busy at work and need to be able to have dinner ready to go when I get home two hours later than usual... Anticipating my visit with DS tomorrow morning, then an afternoon spent scrapbooking with a good friend. The fur-kids. Granddog Ruphus spent the night and he & Aurora do not have off buttons. Seeing them frolic, with the others joining in (even the cats) is so much fun....See MoreI'll try this again. What should I do with that orange brick?
Comments (39)I limewashed the brick using 1 quart of Romabio Bianco White. Let me tell ya, I used every last bit. A quart should cover 100 sq. feet of brick. I had 87 sq. feet. I really like the limewash because it's not just one solid block of white brick, the kind of look paint would give. The limewashed brick is more variegated. I had planned on spraying off some of the limewash, but after I applied it, I liked the look and just left it "as is." I really like how it turned out. Thank you, everyone for your help!...See Moreshirlpp
