The government sent me a letter. LOL

How's this for bureaucracy at work?

I made an appointment to talk to the Social Security office because I had a question. The woman answered it, and that was that. Quick and satisfactory call.

Then I got a letter from the Social Security Administration regarding SSI (disability benefits). My question had nothing to do with SSI, so I was puzzled. Then I read the letter. It said:

Based on our talk, we have made an informal decision that you are not eligible for SSI. This informal decision is only about your eligibility for SSI.

Why You Are Not Eligible

We believe you are not eligible for SSI for the reason shown below:

* You told us you do not want to file a claim for SSI.

That struck me as so ludicrous, I really had to laugh.

By the way, I don't recall being asked about SSI on the phone. I really don't think I was.
