Not sure what you are wanting. Do you want suggestions about arranging the room, additional pieces you could add, accessories and wall art, color?

The first thing I would do is get the seating rearranged and get rid of all the diagonals pushed out to the 4 corners.

I would put the tv in the other corner where is is, but find another spot for the DVD storage shelf. Perhaps on that little wall to the left of the fireplace and the window.

I would put the loveseat on the end wall, the couch at a right angle to that on the long wall opposite the fireplace. The chair would go where the loveseat is now, on the other side of the fireplace.

You need lighting - it seems you mostly have the glaring overheads. A floor lamp by the chair, on the window side. A table with a lamp at the corner where the couch and loveseat meet.

The two small art pieces on the end wall look lost - they aren't anchored visually to anything. Once you move the furniture, you could re-hang them above the loveseat on the end wall, but not up so high, and side by side.

The art piece in front of the fireplace looks odd. Don't know if that is just resting there, but if it is acting like a fireplace screen, it needs to be replaced. Then you can hang it on a wall.

Valances or panels hung on the windows, up higher, will carry the eye up and balance the fireplace.

Nice room! I agree with Les, but I'd also take the loveseat out of the room and replace it with a smaller chair. It would give you more space to add end tables and lamps.

An area rug would be nice even if it's laying on carpet.

What's the room off the kitchen with the red wall? It sure is pretty looking at it from the living room!

The room seems really claustrophobic to me right now, with the only way to enter it by squeezing in-between the over-sized furniture. Why is the couch out so far from the wall, does it recline, too?

To my amateur eye the seating looks too big for the space, but I'd love to see les's ideas put into action!

I agree that there's one too many large seating pieces for the size of the room.

With that in mind, you could embrace symmetry in the room, and highlight your nice fireplace by placing sofas facing each other in front of the fireplace (with largest on wall, and smaller one more or less where it is, but at 90-degrees to the fireplace). The TV would then move across from the fireplace. You probably would have room for a small chair (but not the big one), in the corner between sofa and TV. You could then stack artwork on the right side of the fireplace, to mimic the window on the left side.

The love seat & couch both recline.. My boyfriend bought all the furniture when he moved into the house and I moved in with him and have been trying to decorate but I had no idea what to do! I doubt he's gonna want me to get rid of any of the furniture.. I'd love a coffee table and additional end tables.. Yeah, that painting against the fire place is just sitting there while I figure out somewhere for it.

How much room do they need to recline, or are they wall-savers? You should still be able to rearrange them, just leave a little space behind for reclining.

Because I have a couch with two reclining ends in the family room, I will suggest no coffeetable, or something on wheels that can be moved out of the way every time someone wants to recline. Otherwise, you will soon regret having a coffeetable at all.

Buying a matching three piece suite of furniture is a very common mistake by first time furniture buyers.

You would have a much better looking room if you removed the single chair. Could you put it in the bedroom or some other room?

I suggest that you rearrange the room and temporarily move the chair into the kitchen so that your boyfriend can see the improvement in the room.

I just want to say you have my complete sympathy! What is it with men and giant leather furniture? Giant leather reclining furniture, at that?

We have one brown leather recliner (DH's throne) that was the only furniture in his living room when we began dating (wait, no, there was also a hideous, falling apart blue velvet recliner that the cat slept on). I teased him about it, so he got a yellow leather double recliner with adjoining console. It makes decorating next to impossible. I should've kept my mouth shut and maybe we could have invested in furniture together once married, instead of me feeling guilty for hating his new stuff. Good luck! I would try arranging the furniture the way les suggested, the furniture isn't angled properly towards the tv anyway, and it would open up the room by not having all of that seating in the open area. You're making the room smaller by angling the furniture. Do you use all 3 pieces for reclining? because if it is just the two of you Im guessing you have your favourite spots to sit and there's at least one piece of furniture that could be pushed back to the wall.

Two o'clock in the morning, and moving furniture... you're certainly motivated! I'd say it looks much better than how you started, and if you're satisfied, you could leave it. If you're not quite satisfied, try switching the love seat and chair, but leave the loveseat at 90-degree angle to fireplace.

Because the TV competes with the fireplace, and blocks the second window (didn't see that the second window on the first set of photos), I'd like to see it moved across from fireplace, with two sofas facing each other on either side of fireplace.

Once your furniture placement is settled, you can move on to adding some color, pattern, and personal items to the room. (Why do so many men like overscale, black, leather furniture?) I think you would get the biggest bang for your buck with an area rug.

A grouping would look nice on the blank wall. Your clock and pictures are nice. Your room is going to look good- you've already made a lot of progress! You said you didn't have the money for artwork right now- you can find things at thrift shops and art posters can be framed inexpensively- but what you have is a great start.

At this time -- try moving the old clock and the old painting (both are really lovely pieces BTW!!) to another room. For the size of the room -- perhaps keep to a more modern vibe to work with the furnishings and TV.

Then consider finding a round dark-framed mirror to hang above the fireplace -- just to add another visual shape there.

For the big blank wall at the end of the room -- hang a grid of your own personal photos. Re-do the photos in small black-and-white sizes -- and then add much larger mats ((so that the photos look small in the mat -- very fresh and modern look)) and matching dark frames. You could even add a couple of longer shelves so you could lean some of the photos against the wall.

Skip a coffee table -- and just have tables for each seating option.

For additional color -- try hanging curtains on the window(s). Get longer ones -- and a thicker curtain rod. Hang the curtain rod as high as the top of the clock (where it sits now on the mantel)

I'd suggest painting the square that is outlined over the fireplace to a soft color similar to the hearth stones. Then put a large wreath in the center or a mirror. I then would add bamboo or wooden blinds in a similar tone. You need some real color in the room, of course drapes would add color and texture and some cheery pillows. You're on the way.

Okay, chances are this is not practical due to cable connections, etc., but is there any chance of putting the tv on the wall across from the fireplace and putting the couch and loveseat across from each other between them? Of course, the chair would probably have to go, but you would have an arrangement that looks less like a frat/bachelor set up that focuses on the tv. You could have a narrow sofa table behind the loveseat separating it from the dining area and a coffee table or three small tables that function in the same way between the two large pieces. Just a thought.

Love the changes you made! I agree with the comments that moving the tv opposite the fireplace would be ideal, but possibly not possible/practical with wiring (and I'm not sure where the chair would go in the scenario of couches facing each other). At least it's more open now!

Taking down the too small artwork and moving it on the fireplace was smart. I'd rather see a blank wall than awkwardly hung pictures. Definitely check out thrift stores and garage sales. I've seen cool arrangements of empty frames that you could do for cheap. Or, add color and pattern for cheap with a fabric art piece.

If you do want to move the TV you could get a really long coax cable and run it along the baseboard to the new location as long as there are electrical outlets where you want to move it. I did this at a rental house once since we couldn't change anything. I pushed it down in the space between the baseboard and the carpet tacks and used a white one so it wasn't very visible at all against the baseboard.
