Thanks for the reply, Suezbell! Ok, I'll post a picture when I can. Style is casual, no frills, fairly contemporary. Since the doors are west-facing, we're not getting direct sunlight in the mornings through early afternoon, but it's still quite bright in the reflected Southern California sunshine. I'm not sure if an awning would block enough of that, though retractable awnings is something we've considered for a future project, when our budget recovers. Honestly, I personally would be able to sleep with just a little improvement in the light blocking in the morning, but my husband wants to be able to make it DARK in the middle of the day so he can nap, which is why I'd like to find a true blackout solution. I'm seeing some nice panel track blinds which perhaps could work... I do like the flat appearance of the panels. Nice contemporary look that is a change from standard verticals. Not sure if that will clutter up the look of things though, with too many unmatched elements.

I like the yellow you have, but your artwork has more blues in it. If you're keeping the rug maybe pull a blue or teal from that to inspire paint color. As for window treatments I'd do sheer light curtains, nothing too heavy since you already have heavier furniture and you don't want to take away from the beautiful molding and wainscoting.

These vertical options are not going to be the traditional PVC clanky, vertical blinds most are used to. That’s a very tight space for drapery panels. Not enough room for them to stack to each side off the windows so drapes that are full enough to cover window & not look skimpy when closed. They will cover half the window & be very crowded up against your display cabinets & obscure them as well when open.. What about finding new home for the cabinets if you want drapes, or, maybe a glam fabric Roman Shade mounted at ceiling height & just a bit larger than window including trim is the solution? That room has a lot of furniture in it so maybe best to find new home for 2 curio cabinets? Just a thought.
