Length of 'normal' listing contract

Yes, normal is in the eye of the beholder. But this agent wants a six-month contract, at the same time almost promising without actually using that word, that if we follow her advice the house should sell in a few weeks.

I countered with 60 days initial and 30 day extensions at our discretion, and have not heard from her. I told her in an email that if she wants 'security' with the listing (she had mentioned this as a reason for the six months when I remarked at its length), her best security is her own performance. I mean, why have a six month contract when the house will sell in weeks?

Is this sort of dictatorial attitude common? Do realtors have so much business that they can turn down listings on points like this?
