Please help... Other names for Quartzite and granite?
Comments (11)Thanks! Babs, it definitely will NOT be the backsplash that is shown in the picture! We are building our home and we won't be moving until May. We want to see the kitchen put together before finalizing a backsplash so it probably won't be until summer. We are leaning towards ceramic tiles like the one in the photo but in white with stainless steel accent tiles. Our cabinets are cherry and our appliances are stainless....See MoreMs. Indecisive made a decision! Please help with final decision!

I have four kids, three of them boys, and the baby boy is 22 and a senior at the Univ of Florida. So I speak from experience. Promised Disclaimer: Length of time for avoiding stupid actions may vary slightly with age, but shows a high correlation with the quantity of similarly aged onlookers. Studies show their ability to hold back stupidity will, for average mid-teen boys, last approximately 3/4 of a second. For "good boys who listen to their mother", the time has been seen to rise to almost a full second in some rare cases. Unless a REALLY cute girl is there to witness. In which case, and for every boy studied thus far, the retention time falls to such a short interval scientists aren't able to accurately measure the value....See MorePlease help me choose slabs of white quartzite
Comments (23)Update: My designer and I went to view 4 & 5. While she agreed the patterning on 5 was interesting, she thought the tonal variations of the shades of white in 4 was better. 4 was also DH's favorite. There are 15 contiguous numbered slabs of #4, so DH and I made an appt. with the stone yard to go pull out more slabs over lunch tomorrow. Although I expect the slabs to be similar, there may be some variations that make some slabs more pleasing to us than others. I am hoping the yellowish area on the far right of the top slab does not appear on all the slabs in that lot. Maybe some of the lower slabs have a little more variation in the lines too. Kiffgirl, I looked at Marmol too. They have some nice cross cut WM now, which I considered before deciding on the vein cut. BKW, we do not have any 90 degree turns to deal with. The 2 perimeter runs will be separated by a French door to the side yard. (No seams required - yay!) Taking stripes around a corner was certainly something I worried about when we were originally planning an L configuration....See MoreFinally some good quartzite info from supplier
Comments (6)I just had a quartzite installed called White Eternity. It was very very expensive at about $200 a sq foot and is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately it does stratch. I was under the impression it wouldnt and even my fabricator said it shouldnt be behaving like that. I have yet to get an answer back. I am just trying not to look at those spots because I literally spent a small fortune and if I think about it too much it will just piss me off. So...what I am trying to say is yes, not all Quartzites are bullet proof....See More- 12 years ago
