Judy, that was my recipe, I burned it to CD and so I can't change the original. Sigh. I add the egg with the rest of the liquid ingredients but when I leave it out I don't notice a very large difference in texture. There seems to be no difference in taste. Every time I post it, I try to change it to add the egg, but either I forget or someone pulls up an old version and copies it. Good thing it's not critical and I guess goes to show that when I say bread is easy and very forgiving, it really is! Annie

Here's my avorite recipe, I've made it many times. Siam Restaurant's General Tso's Chicken 1/2 cup cornstarch 1/4 cup water 11/2teaspoons minced garlic 11/2 teaspoons minced gingerroot 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup cup white vinegar 1/4 cup sherry 11/2 cups hot chicken broth 1 teaspoon MSG(monosodium gluconate), optional 3 lbs. deboned dark chicken meat, cut into large chunks 1/4 cup soy sauce 1 teaspoon white pepper 1 egg About 1 cup cornstarch 1 cup vegetable oil, plus more for stir-frying 2 cups diced green onion 16 small dried hot peppers To make sauce, mix 1/2 cup cornstarch and the water together. Add garlic, ginger, sugar, 1/2 cup soy sauce, the vinegar and wine. Add chicken broth and MSG, if desired, and stir until sugar dissolves. Refrigerate until needed. In seperate bowl, mix chicken, 1/4 cup soy sauce and the white pepper. Stir in the egg. Add about 1 cup cornstarch, until chicken is coated evenly. Add 1 cup oil to seperate pieces. Divide chicken into small quantities and deep-fry @ 350 until crispy. Drain on paper towel. Place a small amout of oil in a wok and heat until wok is hot. Add green onions and peppers and stir-fry briefly. Stir sauce and add to wok. Place chicken in sauce and cook until sauce thickens, adding water or cornstarch as needed for the right consistency. Serve with rice. Makes 6 to 8 servings. Nancy

This is called French Bread because it is formed into baguettes before baking. But it is not a *true* French Bread; however, it is delicious, that I can vouch for. If you don't want to use the alcohol, I guess you could try a non-alcoholic beer. French Bread with Beer - from Ginnie Tate 1 1/2 cups (a 12 oz. can or bottle) beer or ale 1 TB active dry yeast (2 t. instant yeast) 1 TB honey 1 TB malt syrup or maple syrup 2 TB canola oil 2 t. salt 2 cups unbleached white flour 2 cups whole wheat flour, stone ground preferred cornmeal Heat the beer or ale until it is warm and pour into a large mixing bowl; add the honey and yeast. Stir and let it sit until the yeast has dissolved and is frothy. Add the syrup, oil, salt, and white flour. Beat 2 minutes with a mixer paddle or several minutes by hand. Gradually add about 2 cups of the whole wheat flour, or as much as it takes to make a dough that pulls away from the sides of the bowl and holds together. Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and knead until it is smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. Sprinkle on a little more whole wheat flour if it is too sticky. Put the dough into a greased bowl, turn to coat all sides, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk. Punch dough down, turn out and knead a few times, cut in half, cover, let rest 15 minutes. Grease a large baking sheet. Sprinkle it with cornmeal. Roll each ball of dough to a large rectangle, roll up tightly like a jelly roll, pinch the ends together and turn them under. Place the loaves on the baking sheet seam side down. Slash the top diagonally with a razor blade or sharp knife. Brush the tops with melted butter and let rise until almost doubled. Preheat oven to 450F. Spray or brush the loaves with cold water just before putting them in the oven. Spray water onto the oven floor, close the door. Spray again in 5 minutes. After 10 minutes spray again and turn down the heat to 375 for 15 minutes. Baking time is a total of about 25 minutes. Cool on a rack. Makes two long loaves.

This is a dessert rather than a cookie recipe but it's full of fruit and fiber. It's originally a low sugar diet recipe but you can use real sugar and butter in place of the substitutes that I used, although it's healthier in the original version. It's really good! PLUM CRUMBLE 750 grams (1 1/3 lbs) plums, halved 1 TBS sugar substitute 1 TBS cornflour 1/2 teasp ground ginger 1/2 teasp ground cinnamon TOPPING: 2/3 cup (75 grams) or (3 oz) jumbo porridge oats (not instant or quick cook oats) 1/2 cup (60 grams) or (2.5 oz) wholemeal flour * 8 TBS sugar substitute 1/4 cup (30 grams) or (1 oz) chopped almonds or pecans 4 1/2 TBS (60 grams) or (2.5 oz) soft margarine, non-hydrogenated** 1 teasp grated orange zest 1/2 teasp ground cinnamon 1/4 teasp ground cardamom 1. Preheat the oven to 350F. 2. Put the plums in a bowl with the sugar substitute, cornflour, ginger and cinnamon, mix together and arrange evenly in a deep 9-inch (23 cm) pie plate 3. Topping: - Combine the oats, flour, sugar substitute, almonds, margarine, orange zest, cinnamon and cardamon in a bowl. Using your fingers, rub the ingredients together until the mixture forms a crumbly dough. 4. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the fruit mixture and bake for 35 - 40 minutes or until the topping is golden and the fruit mixture is bubbling. I am using wholegrain spelt flour at the moment for baking  it contains the bran. This was another surprisingly delicious, easy dessert! I used 6 large, dark purple plums, each one about the size of a small egg. When halved they sat cut side upwards in rows in a casserole dish. I used Becel margarine, thinking it was a good diet choice but afterwards noticed  printed in German in very small letters - that it was not recommended for use in baking. Oh well IÂll just find another brand for next time. of a no-fat no-sugar fruit yoghurt over top. SharonCb
