Your rosemary is probably doing what it should be doing for its type. Jul 30: cut the tops and let them dry on a paper towel, Aug 1 (2 days): planted into dry gritty mix, Aug 12 (11 days): bottom-watered for the first time to the point where the mix got fully saturated, then drained, but all the greenery on top was totally dry, Aug 27 (15 days): watered from top; leaves got wet; put it back under lights to dry. Sep 2 (6 days): misted heavily to wet the very top of the soil - but of course the above-ground parts all got wet too. Noticed one tip cutting dried up (did not rot but looked like dried up) below the lowest leaves, so basically whatever part was in the mix. There were no roots on that cutting. I pulled another very gently, and there was a tiny bit of resistance. No roots visible anywhere through the walls of the transparent container. >> If you can see roots on the bottom, nope, cannot. >> The donor plants look just a touch pale It may be the lighting, which is very bright and cold/blue (6500K) - taken under the grow fixture. Jul 30 (5 days): took the cuttings, fertilized for the first time (fertilizer is Foliage-Pro 9-3-6, always at quarter-strength). Aug 15 (16 days): fertilized. Aug 21 (6 days): fertilized. Sep 5 (give or take a day, 15 days): will fertilize again. What would you say?

Hey Mike. Root pruning was a little nerve racking for me but I have done it with tropical fruits. I root pruned a mango tree, and yes, I was nervous but it worked just fine. I have not tried this on any of my citrus trees yet but my 'OroBlanco' grapefruit will probably be the first I tree I try it on. When I did it to my mango, I used a sharp knife and cut off 1/3 of the entire root ball. The only other thing I did was moved the tree to shade for a few weeks to recover, and the tree was fine. I would think it would be the same for citrus also. When I do this to my 'Oro Blanco', I will let you know how the tree does. Andrew

You can't. You can shear off part of the new growth each spring or summer, thereby slowing the rate of size increase, but you can't freeze them at one size. When they get too big you have to dig them up and put them where there is enough room, or cut them down. Of choose a variety in the first place that is likely to stay in scale, for the desired time period.
