In my part of Ohio, we're under a tornado watch until 9pm eastern. We used to go months or even years with no threat of them here.

Yes, Gadgets, keep us posted. I remember being stick in a tropical storm while vacationing in Florida. My daughters thought they would miss the first day of school.
This was the closest I came to a panic attack. It's scarey being stuck and having no control over what you can do.

Deeby, are you in San Diego. We just heard from our niece that they were about to evacuate but now the fire is out and they don't have to. I heard there is lots of damage in Carlsbad.

Thank you, Ellen. I'm in northern San Diego county, in San Marcos. How is your niece and what area does she live in? The mountains behind my house about 5 miles away are on fire. I have supplies in my car. So far no evacuation orders. I hope we don't have to, I'd love a cool shower and a good night's sleep. I have two cats and three rabbits and everything is ready if need be.

We lived in SoCal for a short time..
1) Santa Ana's are weird...like someone left the heater on high and the fan at the same time.
2) The rainy season is short and quick if at all..so everything not irrigated is tinder.
3) Hills near by on fire is so scary.

I will say it again..I am thankful to be on an Island in the PNW. We don't flood, we don't have forest fires, hurricanes or tornados.

"When" the big one hits (earthquake)..I'll take my chances with that one time deal..not a season of issues every year.

I guess those that live in areas with seasonal "issues" have grown accustomed to it?

Terri, are you near the island where the author Betty MacDonald lived and wrote her books? Vashon? What a beautiful place. I have a niece who went to live in Shelton, Washington. She seems happy and says it's a much better place to raise her kids. I hate Santa Anas-in just a few minutes my skin turns to cracks. Hard on my garden too. But I'm third generation, used to it, and will stay here the rest of my life. I do envy your cool weather and fresh rains though !

Deeby, thanks for getting back. Not sure of our nieces county, but she was close enough to see smoke down the street. So far, I don't think she has to leave. They have two young children and a cat or two.

Oh, good ! Glad they are safe. The fires near here went over the mountain out of sight. It's smoky and hot but we're all OK. : )
