my bathroom transformation before and after

My house has oak cabinets throughout the entire house and I hate them! I wanted an espresso color on my cabinets so I decided to start with my upstairs bathroom.. I painted them using Behr 2 in 1 in Espresso Bean.. I just cleaned them really well with mineral spirits, lightly sanded them & painted them with two coats. I absolutely LOVE my bathroom now and can't wait to tackle my kitchen!!! :) I plan on painting the trim in my bathroom brown & getting hardware to go on the cabinets.. I think the brown cabinets brings out the blue my bathroom is painted much more now!!

Very nice!

Don't know if you thought about adding hardware, but that can act like 'jewelry ' for the cabinets, and add a touch of light reflection and sparkle to the dark cabinets.

Thanks for the info dpowlan. We had actually planned to put the toilet under the sloped roof and put a small shelf behind the toilet; essentially bumping it out about 6-8 inches, and then put a curbed skylight above it to combat the lack of headroom. Our contractor (at the time) seemed to have no problem with that. We were also going to run our shower all the way back to the roof and put in a shelf and a bench. However when the plumber showed up he told us he was pretty sure that that was not to code. My contractor then called me and said that all the walls in the bathroom had to be at least 5 ft tall per code. Which meant building a wall out from the sloping roof and losing 12 sq ft. Soo our small bath just became much smaller. It is good to hear that the internal dimensions of your lovely shower are 36 x 45. Our "new" dimensions will be approx 42 x 34. I looked at your pics and stopped hyper-ventilating a bit and thought, "Ok that looks roomy and do-able, if we are somewhere close to that size-wise we may be ok" Anyway, thanks for the help. You give all of us small bath people hope!!

Thank you all for your comments! It was a 5 year complete down-to-studs home renovation of an old 80's house of redwood walls. We've turned it into an Italian lake villa. So happy it's finished and very pleased how it turned out.

Kristi, I hope you're still checking back here. I'm very interested in your tile. Is it more beige-ish, or gray-ish, or both? It's hard to tell from your photos. I'd like to do something similar in my smallish master bath. Would you say it's light in color? I'm afraid of making the bathroom too dark. Also, I really love the way you placed the tiles. It seems to be a herringbone pattern - am I right? I live in New Jersey, and I can't seem to find a store that carries Sarana tiles, but I'll keep looking.

Wow! I've never seen painted cabinets turn out so well before.
You're right, the blue really pops and the whole room looks very sophisticated. I've always loved that color combination. I agree that some cabinet hardware will add sparkle to an already beautiful room. (brass would match the 2 faucets)

It looks great! I really like it with your blue walls. Have you thought about changing your faucets? I think that would make a huge difference, too.

I LOVE it! Since we painted all of woodwork SW portabello I've been considering doint the kitchen & bath cabinets too. WOW! it looks great....now I want to do it for sure!

I have no idea the blue color.. My boyfriend painted it when he moved in.. I definitely want to change the faucets.. Theres gold throughout the whole house & I wanna change it ALLLLL. Baby steps, haha.. Thanks everyone!!

Congrats on a job well done! It looks very rich with the contrast between the darks and lights. I agree, add some hardware and then change out the faucets.

Those look much better! I love the dark brown, I have gel stained all but one of my oak cabinets in my house a dark brown and I like it SO much better. I'll be doing the last one soon!!
