Water Spots on SS Sinks
Comments (10)Thank you, SailAway, for being a SS sink lover and admitting that those *%^($&$(# water spots are a pain in the (*&^! I've dealt with my SS sink for 22 years, and can't wait to replace it with a Silgranite so I don't have to clean those water spots any more. Full disclosure, I grew up with a cast iron sink, so my role model, my mother, never had to deal with the water spots. Occasionally she would use comet to get rid of the dark marks. But if you really use your kitchen to cook, you're running water frequently, and having to wipe out the sink each time is not my idea of having fun in the kitchen. My cleaning lady gets my sink to really shine, and I have finally mastered the skill. What I have learned is that not only does the stainless need to be clean, but it needs to be very dry, and then buffed, to achieve that shine. So, at the end of the day, I will wash it with Dawn, rinse thoroughly (I forgot that rinsing it thoroughly is another part of the process), dry it with a towel, then REALLY dry it with a paper towel, then buff it with a soft clean cloth. Seems like a lot of work, doesn't it? I think I'm going to try your method of just focusing on the back portion and see if I like that better....See MorePlease tell me about your Silgranite Sink
Comments (12)blondelle: Yes, it is the metallic gray. It's a little washed out in that pic, I think, due to the sunlight. Here's a close-up pic that I took shortly after it was installed: From Kitchen We were able to borrow the sample blocks from our local Expo (I miss that place) and take them to the granite yard so we could pick the best color. I liked the silver one the best as it picked up the grays in the granite and just blended in nicely. lovlilynne: Call him, confirm, have him come back and install properly if he did use putty. Instead, you just use clear caulk (I think). The instructions on what to do / not do should have come with your sink so check to confirm. That's how Hubby found out about the no putty deal. It may need replacing, in which case I'd be after the plumber as he is the one who screwed up. But make sure you check with him to confirm, first as I'm just guessing....See Morewater spots on black granite
Comments (2)Joanie, I just had Absolute Black put in two bathrooms and have been using Method Daily granite cleaner (from Target). It completely eliminates the water spots and leaves nothing at all. It also has a great smell! I'm not sure of course, how it will work on spots that have been there for some time, but thought I would share this in case it helps. lynn...See MoreNew Blanco Silgranite Metallic Gray Sink has wavy stains, water lines
Comments (18)Thank you so much for this thread. I also just got a Blanco metallic grey sink and it had the exact same spots as you describe. I tried 1) paste of water and baking soda and scrub with a sponge for 5 min, 2) thick application of Dawn liquid dish soap, let it sit for 5 min, then scrub with a sponge for 5 min, 3) Bar Keepers Friend cleaning powder, 4) BlancoClean Daily+ Sink Cleaner, applied thick layer and let it sit for 7 min, then scrub. None of this worked. I contacted the manufacturer and here's what they suggested. -------------- Silgranit sinks are non-porous and are a solid color all the way through and therefore stains are only on the surface and all food grade stains can be removed. I would suggest the below two methods: Fill the sink with very hot water and adding 2-3 cups of white vinegar. Once the water has cooled, drain and you can then use a Scotch Brite pad or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and give it a little scrub with a baking soda and water paste. Once the sink is clean you can apply a thin layer of mineral oil, and this will usually rejuvenate the look of the Silgranit. Dishwasher Tablets- Fill sink with HOT water into the bowl, dissolve a tablet overnight, and then scrub with scotch-Brite nylon pad and then thoroughly rinse with dish soap and water. Apply a thin coat of mineral oil to restore the sheen. -------------- For me, suggestion #1 worked beautifully. However, I think the key was the thin layer of mineral oil. Reading this thread, and seeing that others tried various types of oil, gave the confidence to try it. I'm glad I did!...See Moregmnolen
