Paw Paw Patch for good country cooking!

turnip greens

Only problem, I was sitting in the front room, with an inside window right across from the men's restroom.

I had to keep my head turned the other way, cause for obvious reasons.

Told the cashier that they needed to put blinds by that window. She said she'd pass that along.

Lunch was delicious, but when I go again, I definitely will not sit at that table!

It keeps threatening rain, but doesn't. We could use a nice, all-day rain.

I took a bunch of chicken parts out for chicken marbella. I wanted leftovers, as this is so good. It's nice, because it marinates all day, then just pop it in the oven for an hour.

Upon serving it, I see I got carried away! Could have fed 2 neighbours and still have leftovers! Basmati rice and corn for sides.

Hubby is torn between this and my chicken with 40 cloves of garlic, as his favourite. Just so he can decide, he wants the 40 cloves on Saturday! LOL

I have a freezer full of meat, beef roasts, pork roasts, briskets, chicken of all sorts, fish & shrimp, but don't you know, I forgot to set something out to thaw....LOL

It is now almost supper time and I am hungry as a bear, what to do???????????????????

WEll, i just solved the problem...I told Jan to get on the phone and call the Chinaman and tell him to get on his bicycle, which is my way of telling her to order chinese takeout home delivery....The Chinese restaraunt is only 1/2 block away so when we order takeout it is here in 20 minutes.

I made spareribs and sauerkraut, along with mashed potatoes. I fixed it all this morning and reheated at meal time. I had to have a front tooth filled this afternoon and wasn't sure if I'd want to cook afterwards. I felt 'okay' but was glad I'd preplanned my meal.

Glenda, I wish I had your dinner. While your seating wasn't the best, look at it this way. It was a great place to check out the guys!

I know I probably have your recipe for chicken marbella, but I'm going to have to look it up. I like anything that marinates all day :-) I have more energy to put dinner together in the morning than I do later in the day.

Lazypup, we have a Chinese restaurant close, too. I almost always just order the egg drop soup and extra wontons. I love that stuff! We usually go pick it up. Doesn't it make you want to kick yourself when you forget to get something out of the freezer? It sure does me--but it comes in handy on busy days to order out. Or sometimes when I just flat don't want to cook.

Shirley, for living alone, you sure eat well and make good meals for yourself! I've thought that for a long time.

Nope, not a good view at all! That's why I turned my head, after one opened the door to go in.

Lazypup, I love Chinese food, and have a favorite spot to go to on dreary days. My comfort food.

Thanks, jasdip. I didn't cook much at all for years, then one day I realized I actually missed my own cooking. My trick is to cook the amount I would for a family, then eat from the leftovers, either from the fridge or what I've frozen.

I'm hosting a dinner party for ten tonight and my menu is as follows ...

Angel hair pasta with artichoke heart garlic and caper sauce. (always a big hit)
French bread.
Leafy greens with halved walnuts, craisens, goat cheese and a choice of balsamic dressings.
Cheese cake, chocolate cake and ice cream.
Tea, coffee, wine (Merlot and Chardonnay) and Perrier.

Leftover spaghetti, made with lots of green bell peppers and mushrooms. Came home early from an overtime day of work. Was up late last night, girls went to high school graduation, came home after 10:30...then Alex kept waking me up in and out his door. Didn't fall asleep till probably 1 am. Am so tired so only did 8 hours of overtime today. Going to bed shortly. Have to work 2 more 12 hour shifts and then I'm on vacation!!!

It has been raining here in SD all day. I was thinking about soup but when I woke up from a nap DH was making toast and eggs so I made myself some too.

We're eating our dessert now.....bran muffins fresh out of the oven. Yum.

Home made meat lovers pizza! Pepparoni & sausage. Then walnut carrot cake for dessert.....which I ate for lunch. :0)

We had guys here all day installing rolling shutters on the whole house. So tonight it was Gorton's fish, potato wedges and salad.

I got absolutely nothing done today and we are leaving on vacation Friday. Will be a busy day tomorrow.

New recipe for Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff last night was very good and very easy!

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff

2 pounds beef stew meat
1 cup chopped onion
2 cans (10 3/4 ounces) condensed golden mushroom soup
1 Lipton Onion Soup pouch
1 tup of fresh sliced mushrooms (two cups or so)
Fresh ground black pepper
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, cubed
1 container (8 ounces) sour cream
6 cups hot cooked noodles or rice

In 3 1/2- to 4 1/2-quart slow cooker, mix beef, onion, soups, mushrooms and pepper.
Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 10 hours or until beef is very tender.
Stir cream cheese into beef mixture until melted. Stir sour cream into beef mixture. Serve over noodles or rice.

Makes 8 servings

(Running and ducking from the canned soup haters that want to throw cans at me right now! LOL)

LOL, Angelaid. I'm sure not against using whatever makes life easier. When I worked, I don't know how we could've eaten dinner without canned soup and canned everything else. I can't cook with it much anymore because of the sodium and Harry's many health problems. But I still have to have my beloved tuna casserole every once in a while :-)

Just make sure you don't post that over at the Cooking Forum Angela!!!! You'd be run right outta there!! LOL

I don't use canned soups in anything anymore, but there was a time that I did, for sure. I loved it in my scalloped potatoes, but now make a roux.

As long as YOU liked it Angela, that's what counts! BTW, I haven't seen golden mushroom soup in ages.

I think I used one can of cream of chicken and mushroom and one can of just mushroom, because that's what I had in the pantry. It also called for a can of cream of onion soup which I couldn't find (and never heard of) so I added the packet of Onion Soup Mix.

This thread reminds me of the Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld. LOL
