Questions about moving a DW?
Comments (10)Thanks for the replies! brnincalif : I see staples and nails. The strips broke a lot when I was pulling it off, as it was very brittle, so I think the staples that I see are leftover from the strips. I am guessing that the nails that I also see are what's holding up the walls. I won't take down any more strips until it is moved, just to be on the safe side. Not sure what kind of wallboard it is, all I know is it is "printable wallpaper" or maybe the guy said "printable vinyl", shoot I can't remember now, printable something. It DOES have that vinyl feel to it. I am going to experiment in a closet and go from there. larke : Haven't tried the TSP yet, will probably be a couple days before the place is ready for "wet work". Still pulling up carpet and knocking out cabinets, need the dust to settle before I start washing walls, otherwise will just have to do it all over again. I have already bought the Kilz and the regular Valspar, so I hope I made the right choice. Between the vinyl wallboard and the paneling, I figured I would do 2 coats of Kilz and then 2 coats of the Valspar. I really want a good finish. Is it possible to put too much Kilz/paint on? As long as it dries fully between each coat, it should be ok, right? We are getting really nice low-humidity weather right now, so that's a plus. I have before and after pics of the last couple of days if anyone is interested in seeing them. I anticipate about 6 weeks before everything is done and I will try to post pics every couple of days. I've never done anything like this before, so I don't know if there is a better way to post the on-going work. I'll post these pics (if I can figure out how) and y'all let me know if you want more. Comments (5)sue141452: Your nails must hit the framing underneath the drywall; where you place them is less important. I usually go into the first groove in the molding to obscure the nail heads even more. I'd hot-melt my miters together first because if the jamb and drywall aren't in perfect plane, and they usually aren't, it will make uneven miters. Don't overnail and don't be afraid to shim and caulk. Less is more here, it's just trim. Comments (7)Yes, the mom has paid support, not on time or in full most times but after they attached last years income tax, we are now up to date. It is a small amount, we pay for health insurance. She is responsible for very little. We had custody of the 3 children, 1 is moved out on her own, she is in her 20's, the other is going to college here but will transfer to the new state. So, the last one is the youngest minor. SD has not said alot about the move, it has been a well kept secret. She did say that she wants to experience life and see different places. SD is very well adjusted, well liked at school and a top honor student. But she is close to her mom and I would imagine that she feels very very torn about this. I would like DH to talk to her when it actually becomes a reality and tell her that 2 years will fly by and she can apply to colleges there. this may sound petty, but I hope their house doesn't sell before the fall so SD will not have to make a decision. She has made it very clear to us that if this does not happen in the next 5 months and the move happens during the summer, she will not move if she starts her junior year, she will finish her jr and sr year here. That would pretty much solve this whole mess. Bio's DH will not make more money, he will be closing the doors to his business and I guess find a job/business to go to. Bio mom will work 20 hrs a week I assume and attend this program. She has attended 3 schools in 5 years and has not gotten very far, she flunks many of her classes so I have no hopes that she will actually complete this process. I don't know, I am a rambling kind of mood today. I think this is a selfish decision to make at this point. This education could be attained here and she could wait until her youngest is 18 and go where ever she pleases, she is causing a tremendous amount of unhevel and there is no home, job, family she is going to... just the acceptance into a community college? Who does that? And don't drag your kids along, wait until you are settled yourself. Who is going to support them and my SD? Our child support? Beginning to look that way. We will subpeona her payroll records if this actually happens and our arguement will be that she is leaving a good paying job, so we should not have to pay more because of that....See MoreWIP -- Question about Liquid Nails
Comments (10)I bought mineral spirits to clean the ball. The tube says to use liquid nails remover or mineral spirits. I haven't cleaned the ball yet, but I poured some over the penies in a can and the dried stuff is softening up and seems to be coming off. When I'm reay to glove up and go clean the ball, I'll scrap them too. Sounds like a good time to retire a toothbrush. I think I like the 2 layers of pennies and decided after I started that I would like to try one with the bottom layer tails up and the top layer heads up. Has that ball been outdoors? I can't decide whether I like the bright copper or the verde patina better. I may need more BBs! The GEII holds the pennies to the first layer of penies as well? The liquid nails would definitely hold the pennies together (can't budge the two I tested, no how, no way) and what I got is clear. We have band UIL cotests this afternoon and tonight until 11 or so, and I got a whole 4 hours of sleep last night. A sane person would go take a nap now that the kids are at school, but I really want to get a start on this BB, and I need to do laundry, and there's this puppy we found on the street I have to keep an eye on. Yeah, a sane person might not have been so easily suckered....See MoreAdella Bedella
