No doubt as manager he gave it to you. I worked retail too many years not to think so. It is still not ok. Either everyone gets the discount or no one should. Because a customer knows to bug a manager should not give them more options. It is also not fair to the regular worker who customers get angry with when they do not have the power to give the discount. I am glad you stuck to your guns!!

Glad you got your discount, but sorry that Joann's is turning out to be a store with an attitude. Thinking back, I too have noticed a big change in the people that work there and the layout of the store and the quality of items over the last year or so. Since our Hancock went out of business and even with Hobby Lobby, the competition is not the same.

I totally agree with you Arcy... it's not ok. Customers should not have to assert to get a coupon honored.

I'm just hoping that others who have had similar incidents with JoAnn's (or other stores) will at least drop corporate an email. We can "hope" they will change...

Good for you, BEE!!! Sometimes we have to be a bit assertive. Glad you got your item at your price.

I recently was due a refund of $240, and the company wanted to pro-rate it, cutting it by a small amount. It made me so mad, but anger and rudeness never get you anywhere. I said in a calm voice, "No, I want my full refund." I got it.

In California, that would be illegal. Do you have a newspaper columnist or tv news reporter who works on these kinds of problems? Here in San Jose we have an "Action Line" column and the guy who writes it gets great results.

That's why I don't go to Michael's anymore. When I'd present a coupon, they'd always say it's on sale. The whole store is on sale so what good is the coupon?

They tell me that part of the game in tracking customers' buying habits is that the folks who buy high-end products are often offered a better price, online, for the same item, than is offered to the ordinary folks.

And folks who have a record of regularly buying a certain item in a certain store ... have a higher price quoted to them.

I posted some months back about my experience with Olive Garden and how both the head office and the local chain responded.

I also had a problem a long time ago with a Macroni Grill and did the same thing. The Corporate person couldn't have been nicer. She said she was grateful I took the time out to contact as so many times people have a bad experience, say nothing, and then bad mouth the restaurant/store. How can they know they have a problem if you don't let them know?

I'm telling you, a FB page on the issue is the way to go. Want me to set one up on my account? Once they start getting millions of complaints and nasty letters, they'll change that policy quickly.
