Nice to see you logger! I agree about this being a great place to come to and that we never know who we have touched in some way.I know we all can use some "tact" every once in a while,even me:) LOL So,maybe we should try a little harder to watch what we say and in what "tone of voice" we are saying it.

It brought a smile to my face,and i feel the same as you about the folks here.They go out of their way to find answers to whatever the questions may be,they give us hope,hugs,love and understanding.They're an awesome bunch!!

I've been coming to the KT for almost 10 years, and I agree that the people here are awesome. I've had the good fortune to meet several KTers in person, and everyone has been terrific. We don't always agree on everything, but we always care about each other. I love my KT family!

I agree that this is a great bunch of people here. Lillipad, you said it like it is. Sadly, when something like this is said to someone and feelings are hurt it is hard to forget the words were spoken. Very difficult to take back. Had this been said to me I would have been very hurt. Most of us only know each other through this forum. I enjoy reading what others are doing with their families and all. We all have many different opinions on many subjects. I do hope that Marilyn does join us again. She has a lot to offer all of us..

We are all like family....right .....and I would like to tell you that I "always" give my family the benefit of the doubt. If someone who I know says something that hurts my feelings, after the initial thought of being hurt , I always try to remind myself that they wouldn't intentionally do anything to hurt me....I am the old Lady on this board and have seen much water under the bridge and all things pass...The KT is a better place now that we all have the right to express our feelings without fear of being booted out the door...The KT is a good place to hang out..

I must agree with the other posters! I've been coming here since 1997 and I just love this site and
everyone at this forum. There are a lot of things I do not share here but everyone gets me through
my days, weeks, months and years! I have never had the honor of meeting a KTer in person, something
I dream of doing but never achieved. We are family and I love my family.
It is such a pleasure to be here and I miss everyone when I cannot be here.

I can only add that "real" friends don't always say what people want to hear but what they think they need to hear even at the risk of the advice going unheeded or unappreciated.

That's all true - but real friends don't normally do it in public- they have a private conversation or in this situation - a private email.

I'm so glad that my DDIL, who was a poster for a pretty long while, mostly about gardening, signed me and paid for my first membership. We were fairly new to this area and didn't know anyone, so it has been nice to turn to the KT, for me, to 'eavesdrop' on others lives and to ask for answers, suggestions, cry on you-all's shoulder or just plain vent. Yes, there have been a couple times I've butted heads, but that has been rare. After about 4 years, I still haven't been able to make any close friends in my area, here, but I know I can have coffee with my KT friends and family every morning. Dottie

I haven't been here long, but it seems to be a comfortable place to post. And I agree with Quilly about disagreements going private. I have lurked at this board and others and have seen where things get totally taken out of context when a "pack mentality" surfaces and names are called and things are said that are not necessary or called for. I am extremely cautious about telling folks much about me as I am a private person, and just don't really trust internet relationships yet, but love to "talk" to others with similar interests.

I am super cautious about internet friendships, because I have seen gangsta' ;) mentality when a statement is taken out of context and then the poster is jumped on with pirranha gangsta' mentality. I have had it happen to myself, and it is not a good feeling. I have researched that kind internet mentality and it all comes down to internet bullying. Probably in real life these people are bullies. I am NOT SAYING anything about this situation that is going on right now. I plead with you don't turn that around and stir it into something it is not.

I have also found that some people on forums have big egos. Some are the know it alls. Some are "cliquey" and you will never get past that<. some peeps are teachers educators and informers caregivers uplifters psychologist comedians photographers that show us beauty or just come to hang out have a good time. these the people i enjoy. you find all kinds on forum like this. tend be wary at first as can get hurt through lies. pratice discernment.>

I've made some wonderful friends here at the KT over the years. The KTer's are there when you need a laugh, a shoulder to cry on or a question answered. But i agree with Glenda and Rhummer. there are some who seem to take great pleasure in bashing, blasting and bullying others. Many of us (myself included) have had that experience and it isn't pleasant. Some will offer advice and opinions and others think that they are right and you are wrong.

Guess that is what makes the KT special...different views, different opinions and a great support system.

Welcome to this place ... well, not really "welcome", as you've been around for a while ... "welcome", then, to making your voice heard.

Thank you for your message - I think that we need to recall that aspect of the situation, which all of us appreciate, from time to time.

I hope that, now that you've taken the plunge, you won't be so tongue-tied around here in future.

It seems to me wise to put ourslves into another person's shoes, as far as we can, before making personal comments, especially critical ones. I think that it's often a wise thing to write the message, check it over ... and let it sit for a while, usually at a minimum of overnight, prior to sending it. Reread it as though you were the recipient.

Another problem that is part of the situation wherever we go on the internet is that it's only print ... we can't see body language, or even tone of voice as we can when receiving telephone messages.

As for sending messages privately, I've done that on occasion, when it seemed the diplomatic thing ... but there are many who post here who do not offer to have folks send an email message via Gardenweb or offer their email address.

I'm a fairly open person, I think, and have shared many rather private issues here, and have only had my tailfeathers burned a couple of times. Which I seem to have survived.

As for those who may be inclined to bully ... Dad used to say that when we received unfounded criticism, after considering it and finding it unjustified, we should let it roll like water off of a duck's back.

Dad also used to say ... that when he got kicked by a jackass ... he considered where it came from!

Here's an idea ... let's see if we can't promote a gathering within shouting distance of some of the folks here who have never enjoyed one, up until now. I've been at one gathering, and have met some KT folks individually ... and have found both experiences really enjoyable and interesting ... they bring a ray of sunshine into one's day.

Give at least a smile, maybe a greeting, to most of the people that you meet ... they'll wonder what you've been up to!

As someone said the other day, sometimes they've got some interesting and happy experiences from comments made while in lineups in public places, e.g. check-out at the grocery. I have found that, as well. Many of mine add a bit of humour to the situation ... and I've said that humour (the kind not aimed at someone's ribs) is one of the greatest stress-relievers around. I've often made this observation to folks which I've met in such circumstances ... and I've had many agree.

I have some more seeds to plant ... there was to be rain overnight, and today, and it did for a very short time this morning ... but now has stopped ... and I have a lot of seeds yearning for ground ... and land all cultivated, ready to welcome them. I transplanted a bunch of volunteer squash plants last night, did some radishes and lettuce a few days ago, and there are some beans coming up now where the beans were planted last year, that I'm tryig to find some space for ... which shouldn't be hard, as landlord started a new garden over 160 feet long of which I can use some of the six rows.

Also ... the investment group meets tonight. 'Twould be a shame to go without supper! (Some people would rather talk money than eat, I've heard) ... and the usual bunch of well over a dozen of usually about 20 are a great bunch, also. Maybe one appreciates such social experiences more when one lives alone: sometimes the sound of one's own voice does tend to get a bit boring.
