Window Treatments for Multiple Sliding Glass Doors??

We are moving into a new house and have 3 separate sliding glass doors across a wall with a separation of approx 17' between doors (see picture). We do not want the traditional vertical blinds, but are struggling with what kind of treatments we should be targeting.

We would like something that lets in the light during the day, but at night provides privacy so that you cannot see through from the outside. Additionally, should we be looking at each window separately (each one has its own rod) or a single rod all the way across.

What have you done/seen where there are multiple sliding glass doors next to each other like this? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

that should be 17" between each door

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear but no question about it, if it were me, I'd hang vertical sheer blinds. They are drop dead gorgeous especially on a long wall and really functional to boot.

I am having the same problem as I only bought the expensive Hunter Douglas Soft Vertical Blinds due to being afraid my dogs would ruin the Luminettes that I really wanted. Now I am thinking of using Sheers on a rod that can easily be washed and if that doesn't work out, I I will see what others suggest. I really hate how the curved vertical blinds I bought in 2006 that block the light on the sides so light from that window does not go into my open family room. They do not insulate and are only pretty when closed. I love the Luminettes and if I did not have little dogs, that is what I would have gone with as they are very expensive to clean. My kitchen and family room would be so much brighter if I removed the expensive blinds that match the wall color so well and are really pretty but they were not the right choice.

I have Pella patio doors with blinds between the glass in both my dining room and in my master bedroom. Love them. Both of those doors face south and get loads of sun. I hated the vertical blinds I had on the previous doors. Prior to getting the new door I had removed the vertical blinds from the dining room and just hung grommet top panels. I didn't like having to slide those panels across every sunny day and every night. It's so much easier to raise/lower and or tilt the blinds of the between the glass blinds for light control. And the blinds are never in your way when going through the patio doors. I did leave the curtain panels on each side of the dining room door for decoration. I have had the between the glass blinds for almost 4 years and they have been problem free.

Hello, I'm attaching a photo from a recent kitchen remodel we did. This kitchen has sliding glass doors, and it doesn't have the intense morning light problem as you do and it has a very nice view to the back yard, so we left the motorized shade out and only did the boxed valance to create a nice tailored look. I would be a little nervous to do a motorized shade on the outside. If you added an upholstered box valance like the one we did below (custom made), you could make room for the motorized shade to roll up and hide behind it. That way it would look nice and clean, but also have the option to block out the strong morning sun. Hunter Douglas has great choices with many color options for a motorized shade, so I would look into them as well. Hope this helped!

I have a similar set-up, but with French doors. I have a solar shade on each set of doors with a simple valance that goes across all of the doors and hides the shade mechanisms. If you want complete privacy, you would need a black-out version of the shade.

You can get fat rods and modern looking drapes with grommets on top. These will fold back quite flat so they will fill the wall spaces between the doors without covering too much of the door during the day. Then you can easily pull them shut at night to cover the sliders.

I suppose you could fake it by where you put the brackets to make it look like one long drapery rod, or you could make them separate if they have returns, but I wouldn't do finials on the ends of the rods....

room style has lot to do with your choice I think because that is lot of wall space--
you have privacy beyond the sliders into the backyard--doesn't look like you have problem with neighbors overlooking your house too badly..

if you have a more contemporary/electic type of look in mind, consider using cable for one long curtain rod---and have sheers on rings--with lot of fullness--
you can add stops along the cable line so that sheers/panels can only go so far in either direction--
meaning they would stack where the wall separates the sliders when they are open
doing that would make it easier to keep same amount of covering in each section

cable can be in almost any metal finish to go with your hardware in the room--like door handles/cabinet knobs
