Lunch with friend who's a quilter

Today I'm getting together for lunch with a fairly new friend who is a quilter. I met her and she was my "angel" the night my dear husband drowned last fall on the lake she lives on. She gave me one of her beautiful quilts to cuddle in during that horrible, long night as the Rescue Squad searched for him and afterwards as she kept me at her house overnight after they found his body. About a month ago she entered a quilt in the Minnesota Quilt Show and I'm anxious to hear how it went for her.

Oh Gininmn~I am so sorry about the tragic loss of your husband. We live on the water, and have experienced the loss of a very dear friend thru drowning here a few years ago.
She is indeed your Angel, and I am happy she was there for you to provide whatever comfort she could. It is nice you are able to form a friendship and share quilting, as you two are forever connected. Enjoy your lunch, and share how she did in the Quilt show with us.
Thank you for sharing your loss with us - I know it is a very difficult time for you. I hope quilting is helping you get thru this sad time. I don't know what else to say, except I'm glad you found your Angel ~ and she turned out to be a Quilter!

Yup, I will post a pic. Here is the deal. They are supposed to send her professional pics of her quilts + every other quilt that was there too on CD. If it doesnt arrive soon, I will post an unprofessional pic. I dont know how she does it, yet she has several(prob more than 5-7) quilts going at once. I'm hurt by how I was treated by friend at lunch at her house

Ok, I've answered some of these points above already but once again to clarify: 1. There wasn't enough room at the table, so we did fix a plate but it wasn't just a matter of taking our seats. There were no seats to take. Going to the kitchen was a last resort - I didn't know what else to do. 2. The hostess had not yet eaten by the time we arrived. So she couldn't remain sitting at the table and eat without getting up. She wasn't already sitting at the table. She was standing, fixing herself a plate. 3. I didn't realize how late we were till we got there - there was no set starting time and she lives an hour away, we sat in the Friday-Afternoon-Heading-Out-Of-Town traffic which I don't know if you can imagine unless you live in a place like Houston where it's unpredictable at best and can be horrific. 4. My children, ages 17 and 20 WERE includded - it's a holiday. (for those who aren't Jewish, maybe that's not meaning anything to you, but would you go to a friend's house for say, Easter Lunch, and leave your kids at home, no matter what age? This would be comparable to that. In any case the invitation which was sent via email said, You and your family. There's NO question, the kids were included. 5. She made no attempt to sit near us. She put her plate down as if she meant to sit near us but came back before ever sitting anywhere, picked up her plate, and went to the other table. I don't mind if she sat with us or not, it's just the way she acted as if she was going to, then apparently changed her mind. Even THAT wouldn't have mattered had it been a table with others in addition to just our family. It was just weird, the four of us, sitting alone in the kitchen, no other guests sitting or eating with us, the rest of the entire party in another room, and no attempt to integrate us into the party. Yeah, we're guilty of being late. But as hostess, it's her duty to make us comfortable and welcome, late or not. That's what I think you'd learn in an etiquette class. 6. And again - we were about 20 minutes late. Is that really late enough to turn around after being in the car one hour and not show up at all? If someone were 20 minutes late to my house and let that convince them to blow off my party, I'd be horrified. 7. I HAVE gotten over this, WAY over this. I wasn't going to answer lizzynola's post for that reason and because most of her questions/comments had already been covered in my previous posts. But since the discussion continues, I'm answering. Kate, Thanks so much. You will be added if needed --- and I think you will be needed! Please, if anyone else missed out on this when we first posted, let us know. Even if Kate fills in for Kim here, there may be a need for more to fill in later. We have some pretty definite rules this year so if someone is not sending, they will no longer be in the group. 70th Birthday Lunch for a Friend

Thank you for all the kind comments on the table and food. The lunch was a great visit and celebration, and our birthday friend who is a retired CPA had some funny stories of clients and lotteries. I did switch the runner to a shorter one of the exact same style and color, and although it was still not flat it was more pleated looking than gathered. The stiffer edges of velvet make this runner difficult to drape. The tall silver vases sat on the sideboard so the center vase, one of my favorite lacquer pieces from my mother, was in between people and not directly in front of anyone. They were a little late and the food was ready by the time they came. Everyone was hungry so we ate within 20 minutes of their arrival. After lunch and birthday cake we sat out on the screened porch drinking bellinis and finished the cheese and melon platter out there, and the weather was absolutely perfect. The dogs were well behaved and after our guests left I took a nap that was actually refreshing. Best of all…..dinner was yummy leftovers! Tomorrow night is our church’s annual low country boil supper, which we attend even though we don't eat seafood (I go for the company and DH for the banana pudding) so I will have a day off before DD, SIL and baby Andrew come Monday for a week’s visit!

Gin, You indeed have a forever connection with your angel friend. Enjoy your lunch.....laughter and crying is good and helpful on your journey.

Quilting angels are everywhere it seems and I'm so glad one found you just when you needed her. I hope this develops in to a life long connection and maybe the day will come when you can pass on the love.

We were so lucky we got to meet him at retreat last year. He was a wonderful partner for you and I'm sure he's watching over you even now.

I had a great lunch with Fay yesterday. Happily, she got a third prize on her quilt at the 2011 Minnesota Quilt Show. It was called Spinning Girl Friend and although double size, the show personnel put it in the Small Pieced category, which they evidently have the discretion to do. Judges commented on her great color usage and were complementary about how well the quilting enhanced the quilt (she had it quilted so they both entered it). I was so pleased for her; it was the first quilt she's entered in a competition.

Thank you for all your supportive comments. Your kind words and friendship with you mean a lot to me. Figuring out my life without DH has not been easy.

Congrats to your friend, I wish we could see pics of the quilt.
My sister lost her husband suddenly at 42 and it was such a shock. My friend's husband just passed after 8 long years of illness, almost the entire last year he was not aware of anything. We were discussing if it is better to know and at least have the chance to say goodbye rather than the shock. But we all agreed there is no easy way.
What a wonderful heart warming story about your angel.

Gin, I haven't been on for a couple days and missed your first post. I am so sorry to hear your sad news and can only begin to imagine what a hard time this has been for you. I am devastated just thinking about it. Thanks for sharing the story of your quilt angel with us and congrats to her on her first successful quilt show.

I wish I would have thought to ask her to bring a picture of her quilt to lunch. I know she showed it to me the night we met but I can't specifically remember much about it other than it was beautiful. As were her other quilts she showed me. When I next talk to her, I'll ask if she will share a picture.
