Yes, I like that kitchen! and the butcher block looks good there. In my kitchen however, I have in my mind a darker wood, not butcher block, and with a worn patina. Or what the counters of old, small town hardware stores or drug stores look like. Even if I could find the top of an old table and have it cut into counter tops, that would be the look I want. Unless the butcher block was very used looking and darkened by age, it wouldn't go with my kitchen. I'm funny, I like things to look as if they have been there for years and years. Not necessarily trashed, but...used. Does that make sense? Speaking of my stove, I must tell you what happened today. For the past couple days, I've been painting the ceiling and walls of the pantry with primer as you know. I started to smell a very strong "fuel" smell whenever I turned on the stove burner to make coffee. Finally I decided this morning to call the gas company to come check it out - just in case. Well, the guy says that the smell is normal; the shellac fumes are being "cooked" by the flame of the stove burner and thus the weird smell. He says it's nothing to worry about, they answer these calls from people remodeling all the time. It's harmless. Then, he looks behind the stove,which is pulled from the wall, points at the gas hose and fittings and says, "But that must be changed!". The gas company no longer approves of brass fittings or hose connected to stoves. Even tho it's been working perfectly for 55yrs. Ugh. So, he turns off the valve in the basement that feeds my stove and says I must make the repairs before I turn it back on. So before he leaves, he goes back to the basement, comes back up and says, "More bad news - follow me". Takes me down there and shows me that the vent pipe from the furnace to the chimney or the chimney itself must be clogged because the furnace is not being vented properly. The big aluminum vent pipe coming out of the furnace is corroded and dripping with condensation(!). He said it there could be a carbon monoxide problem if I didn't get that fixed. So he shuts down my furnace. After he does some work on the outside gas meter, he leaves and I get on the phone to my contractor, all around fix-it guy all excited that the gas company shut me down! ha. Within the hour he had sent one of his workers that happened to be in the area to my house and the stove fittings were replaced, the clogged vent pipe cleaned out and replaced and all was well again. Old houses! I swear, start one project, end up having to do a dozen others. But I am thankful that it was all brought to my attention, I would never have know about the vent pipe that's for sure.

Ronaka, so I should choose the lighter Antique White grout? I was told that the grout dries slightly lighter than the stick so maybe that is why the stick is lightly darker. Which grout would be your choice? Thanks for letting me know. I definitely will be sealing the grout.

Shelayne....thanks! Not quite sure how I feel about the LG yet....I think the cycles are too long....DH and I work in offices...do our clothes really need to wash for an hour? I think the shortest cycle is speedw wash and I think its 35 min....which was about how long my 15 year old Maytag did any cycle. And water temperature is pre selected,maybe you can override it buti haven't figured out how yet. Drying seems to take longer than my Maytag as well. But boy, can you fit a lot without an agitator! I've only had it a month and I probably need to read the manual some more, but the jury's still out...

Yes Debb, I am going with her recommendation. The potters clay has grown on me and we get started with the painting on Monday. This was not a new build. Our home is about 100 years old with craftsman details. It was a fairly large reno. The addition holds the new kitchen, powder room and mudroom. Our old kitchen is now our dining room and our old dining room is now the eat in portion of the kitchen. Will post pictures as the painting gets underway. Also chose the color for our mudroom. The cubbies are BM James River Gray and I'm doing the walls in Revere Pewter. It is rather small so I can't really get a good picture of the whole room but here are the cubbies that were sprayed by our carpenter for a furniture finish. This is our fun room so I am doing the trim in James River Gray too. The floor is slate. I'm also looking for some fun hooks for the cubbies.

The granite looks real nice.
If I may ask, what made you decide to do two different types backsplashes. The sink side is different than the stove side.
Any particular reason for that. I don't think I have ever seen it done, especially not in a very small kitchen space

Beautiful....and the gold tone wastebasket looks perfect with the colors - much better than stainless in this color scheme.

isn't it fun to spend some money on yourself. I did my kitchen over three years ago and I still love it. It was worth every penny!

It is pretty! Is the pass-through new or was it there all along? Will you be able to use some tall stools at the pass through for some meals or is it too high?

Now how are you going to inaugerate it? Bake something?

Passthru is not new. I do have stools, and had lots of fun when GS was smaller. I won't use them now.

Maybe a glass of wine??? :o)

I love everything in your new kitchen! I want to come have a cup of tea at the little bar...and "help" you make some of the wonderful recipes you post.

Is the glass filled with colored bubbles on the pass through a type of barometer? Is the floral picture (to the right on the first photo) embroidered? Did you stitch it? I'm sorry, I'm just a nosey-parker when I get a home tour!

Could you show us the rest of the livingroom? (If that's not being too personal.)

That's a Galileo thermometer that I bought at The Museum Store, here. I love it.

That's embroidered pansies, I did for my mother, 30 years ago, and I received it when she died.

This is my tiny tiny living room. I've taken the curtains down, as I want to install new blinds. Didn't like the curtains to begin with.

Seeing yours I wish I'd gone with the black instead of the gray stoney look. I think I have the same cabinets you have--they sure look like it. I'm anxious to see what they look like when they're painted. You did good, Glenda. Glad someone asked about the thermometer. I wondered what it was.

How do you like your floor so far? It looks really classy. Wood always warms things up and looks homey.

This is the place to put your money -- the kitchen! Especially for someone who COOKS! I still can't believe this is all done so FAST. How come you didn't have to suffer with workmen in your house for weeks? LOL

Glenda, I love your kitchen. It's beautiful.

I was looking at your pictures and realized we had both chosen sort of the same things, but with a different spin. My backsplash is a lighter color than yours and my walls are yellow, but also a different shade.
