Good places to have film converted to DVD?

I'm guessing some of you have had 8mm and/or 16mm film converted to DVDs . . . if so, where did you have it done?

I picked up a price list from Sam's Club, but haven't checked anywhere else yet. I have home movies from when the kids were little, and my son recently found 800 ft. of 16mm film shot in 1940, when my DH was a child.

I've done that with Sam's and their machine did a good job with it. That was years ago though.

I've recently purchased an inexpensive scanner that can scan films too. Although, I have yet used it for film scanning.

Thanks--good to know Sam's did a good job for you.

Re the scanner, I'm thinking you must mean regular camera film. My scanner will handle any size negatives (and I scan a lot of them), but I can't imagine scanning movie film.

How well does it do with dropped frames and out-of-sync audio. I can't seem to overcome that problem with my TV tuner card. On long video captures, I get out-of-sync audio. If you have irreplaceable video tapes I would go with a standalone DVD recorder. If these are movies you have I would get a DVD burner for the computer and rent each movie and copy it. It is much easier this way and much better quality. Pooh Bear

Just one. WHY! Gas logs are boring( same fire appearance constantly), lacks aroma, sound, coziness, exercise, and something rewarding to do and accomplish. Not to mention the great lawn fertilizer and composting you get from the ashes if you have a green thumb. Don't do it! People though want to retire from the aformention so in all fairness I understand the desire to switch. If you do, just make sure you're happy with the logset! Mendota is from what I've seen top of the line. You'll need to hire a plumber and apply for a permit. Could always go back to wood down the road and sell the logset on ebay and it'll go! Good luck!

Alisande We had our old 8mm home movies from the 50's & 60's converted to DVD and VHS last year. In total there was about 1000 feet and the cost was about $200 however it was a worthwhile investment that I'm sorry we waited so long for as some of the film had began to deteriorate. If you check in your yellow pages under audio-visual you will probably find a local company who can do this for you saving you the angst of mailing the valuable films. That's how we found the place to do ours. The place we had ours done also had a pricing structure that dropped with the more feet of film you had reprocessed so ask about that.

My brother had all the old home movies converted about 15 years ago to VHS and it's probably time now to convert to DVD. I haven't done any research yet but I would be leery about mailing my originals for fear they might be lost. Maybe you can find a local place. Do you have a camera store that might be able to recommend someone? At least my brother had multiple VHS copies made so I can at least get a replacement.

There is a shop in Plymouth Meeting Mall that does this work, and I hear they are very good. Not a chain store.

Groupon offers a great deal on that every few months,sign up and you'll get notified. My sister just bought 4 of the coupons, they were 60% off.

Sam's Club is about as local as I get. I contacted one online company that seemed to be responsible, but I really don't have a clue.

Some years ago I converted our VHS home movies to DVD myself, intending to make copies for everyone, but the DVDs disappeared in one of my kids' moves. I'm sure they still exist, but since we don't know where they are I'll start over again. I'll probably have a service do them this time.

Thanks, Monica, but I never heard of the Plymouth Meeting Mall so it's probably not anywhere near me.
