Is white trim the trend now?
Comments (10)First off, if your trim is the "cheap crap" anyway, then, do what you want and don't give it another thought. The only reasons, (In my opinion) to preserve furniture, flooring, trim, etc., in it's original state, when you have the Desire--The Money--and the Time--to make it into what you want; are when someone else is taking ownership directly and you think they may want to keep the original, or when something is intrinsically valuable as it is and you may actually lessen the value of something that you will not keep indefinitely anyway. White or pale trim is most definitely what you see the most of in California. Now, if you own a 1920's Craftsman Bungalow and you really want to maintain it's historical significance for the next owner, you may want to sublimate your trim preference and leave the nice stained wood alone. Some have even carefully removed nice moldings and trim to store, in order to have best of both worlds; what they want NOW and what potential buyers may be looking for in 2010. But not a lot of what we find in our houses or at yard sales, is a fine antique whose patina will be removed and value gone if we refinish, restain, or paint. Make your house what you want it to be. Enjoy where you live and what you can do to make it pretty. Red...See MoreWhite Cabinets & Trim Dilemma - What to do now?
Comments (32)jmcreque Lovely kitchen! We have the same issue in our current kitch. We used a plinth block to separate the trim in the meet up corner and it looks fine. This seems glaring now only because nothing else is in the kitchen. Counters and BS will tie it all together. I would consider first painting the trim WD in the kitch only, this keeps costs down, and staining the doors to match the island. In fact if it were my kitchen I'd do that anyway. Those big white doors distract from your really beauiful cabinetry. Are the doors to be closed most often? Then this is also a non issue. I disagree with your architect/designer, sometimes everything too matchy-matchy just doesnt do well. All that leads me to: is the WD the best color for this kitchen given the light in the room. Window light, lighting isnt in yet? and time of day all play into color. Your finished room will look quite different with all the colors involved plus accessories. I certainly wouldnt pay thousands extra to change out the cabinet color at this stage. YMMV...See MoreLG4270.. Whitest Whites/Heaviest soil, only 42 minute cycle??
Comments (22)I like and have Miele Ultra White ( Thank You Larsi xox)..but as much as I love it...Tide with Bleach powder and Persil Pearls are better at whitening IMO..at least that's been my results. Dosu..it will take more than one treatment to get the grey out. As far as the hot water goes..if its white cottons higher temps are fine but any elastic could suffer lol. So you do need to use caution what you wash above around 140F..even that can be to hot for elastic. I love my hot water which we all know haha...but even I won't wash fitted sheets above 140F. I really only have a few fitted as I prefer using a flat for a bottom sheet because of restrictive water temps....See MoreCan I paint my oak cabinets white but leave my trim oak?
Comments (3)Oak white combo is not dated. This pic on This Old House site last week: Other pics: Paint your cabinets only if you want to. Do not get on the trend merry go round. Unless your budget is huge, you wont be able to keep up with the changing trends....See Moreiknownothingatall
