Can I paint my oak cabinets white but leave my trim oak?

I would like to paint my honey oak kitchen cabinets white (or off-white) but I don't know if it is a good idea since I am not planning to paint the oak trim and oak floors as well. I am not that worried about the oak floors because I have found several pictures of white cabinets with oak floors and it looks fine. I have not found many pictures of kitchens with white cabinets and oak trim. I do have a lot of oak and white combined together in the rest of my house (oak trim with white doors and oak banister and railing with white spindles, etc.) I know this oak/white combo is very dated but I am not ready to spend the money to fix all of the trim at this point. I would like to start with just painting the kitchen cabinets for now but I don't want it to look bad until I can get the trim done as well. Looking for advice...HELP! Thanks so much!
