Has Your Day Been a Good One?

I have felt pretty good today and have gotten a bit done. I baked the deep dish apple pie, made a double batch of jello, have pork loin cooking in the crockpot for barbecue sandwiches, cinnamon rolls are raising ( I had those in the freezer), opened up a gallon of pork and beans and have those made into baked beans. I put one dish in the freezer for future use and the other in the refrigerator to bake this weekend, changed the sheets on my bed and flipped my mattress, emptied up the dishwasher and filled it and ran it through its cycle. Taken Izzi out a few times to potty. We walked out to the mail box first thing this morning and mailed some cards. Wrote a few emails. Now it is time to work on supper. So all in all I feel for me I got some things done. How was the day for you? Hope it was good.

Sue

You make me tired just reading all you did. I sat at my desk at work and did paperwork all day.

House has been on market for 40 days
Q

qdog -- Not at all. I'm suggesting that if sellers lowered their prices they would see more buyers. I do agree with you that the term "priced correctly" is realtorese. It means that the agent has no more idea than the seller what price would actually bring in a buyer within a reasonable time-frame. It's actually quite hard to guess at the market value of a house when both prices and numbers of sales have been declining for some time now. Realtors customarily try to find "comparables" to suggest a listing price. But when sales are few, the comparables become rare. And when prices are in decline, the few comparables are likely obsolete. House prices in the Detroit area (one of the worst housing markets in the country) have now dropped to the level of 10 years ago and guess what? Houses are starting to sell. In fact, I know a young man who just bought his first house and the seller said that he sold it for about the same price he bought it for 10 years ago. Is that a "fair price"? A "correct price"? A price that amounts to "giving it away"? I don't know, but I do know that it is the price that got it sold, however painful it may have been for the seller.

Has your machine been humming along making your Xmas gifts?
Q

Making Christmas pillows. But, not for gifts. Just to make my first Christmas in my first apartment festive. And it's cheap too! I'm using some of last years fabric, because I did make gifts then. Always have stuffing on hand! The first pillow I did had a green side with a print of red Christmas bows and balls. The other side is a solid red with a green tree silhouette that I applicayed on. I'm going to do a white one with red strips to simulate a candy cane. Maybe I'll even make it in the shape of a candy cane... this is fun! There is something about the hum and interaction of and with a sewing machine that is so peaceful and relaxing and rewarding!

It Has Been A Skunky Day Here
Q
Comments (12)
A skunk at night is normal. That's when they forage for food and I try to just ignore them unless they are doing something stupid like trying to get into one of our buildings that houses animals, for examples. Skunks out in the daylight usually are sick, often with rabies. We shoot them and carry them (wearing leather gloves) far, far away through the woods to a clearing about 150 yards from the house so the buzzards can find them. We want to be sure the skunks are far enough away that a curious cat doesn't find them. If we see a skunk nearby when it still is dark, usually those run off when they see us. Now, if they run towards you, that's more of a problem. I've never been chased by one after dark, but I've been chased by them in broad daylight. Our house is up on pilings for the same reason, but we still have lots of animals trying to get into it at times, particularly during drought (or flash flooding). We have, indeed, employed a porch dance similar to your Porch Stomp in an attempt to flush out skunks, possums and coons that are trying to nest or whatever underneath the porch. Our wildlife was oddly docile during the Big Drought (may we never have another one like that). I put waterers and feeders far, far, far from the house and fed everything willing to go there and eat/drink. Sometimes I'd see deer, coons, possums and cottontails all gathered around a waterer drinking together. We laughingly called our place the Peaceable Kingdom that year because the wild things didn't even want to fight one another for territory. They just wanted to eat, drink and leave. Well, there was one magnificent buck who brought his twin fawns to eat and he didn't want anyone too close to them. Their mother had brought them daily until one day they just didn't come. Then, the buck started bringing them so I assume the doe died, and I don't know if the buck actually was their father, but he came with them, stood some distance away and watched them eat and drink, and then left with them. That went on all summer. He did come later in winter and eat some deer corn, but he wouldn't eat until the fawns had had all they wanted. I never really thought of deer as a family unit, though of course we see them travel in herds all the time. The buck never ate or drank there that I saw in the summer months when all the animals were so desperately hungry, but he made sure the fawns did. It was kind of an awesome sight to see. In a separate area we fed the bees because all the wildflowers died and dried up by July and the bees had nothing. I'd never put out feeders specifically for the bees until that year, but it worked. They just wanted to eat and drink and leave. I'll be happy if we never ever have a year like that again. We've been wet the last two years, which just brings a whole different set of issues, but starving wildlife is not among them.

My day is just beginning here in NZ. It's not quite 8 am (Saturday) so I'm still in my PJ's & fighting Caddy for the best spot near the heater! It's COLD this morning - winter is nearly here :-(

Not many plans for the day apart from dropping DH at golf later this morning and then deciding what to cook for a family pot-luck dinner tonight.

I've had a good day. The Home where my sister Annie lives has some great volunteers. Last week one lovely lady brought in cards with inserts in them to send to residents female relatives inviting us to a Mother's Day tea today. She comes in once a month and at her own expense writes letters, makes out cards for birthdays, etc, so residents can send them to whoever they want to. Yesterday a wonderful local cake decorator (again all at her expense) brought out baked cakes, frosting, etc, and showed any interested resident how to decorate.....let them each make a flower on their hands. Today another local, an antique dealer, brought out old hats for each to wear, antique tea pots, various teas, plus entertained us.

These wonderful ladies are not a part of any organizations, just individuals giving of their time, talent, money, etc. I applaud each of them.

Several of Annie's sister showed up to 'celebrate'.

Yes, Stacy, it's good she has such people in her life. I neglected to say that the cakes they decorated on Thurs were our 'tea' cakes for today. They paid tribute to a couple of other women who often do things behind the scenes. The one makes those fringed blankets that a lot of you ladies do.. the activities director then wraps them up for birthday presents. I'm amazed at just how generous and kind some people are. And we don't hear enough about them, do we?

Haven't done quite as much as you, but I'm feeling pretty good about today.

Up early, went treasure hunting, fed the ducks and stopped at the grocery store. Transplated some hostas. Baked some oatmeal toffee cheesecake bars. Chatted with the next door neighbor. Mulched some of the garden. Laid out a quilt. Reduced the bore bee population by a baker's dozen (I've got one of those electric fly swatters that looks like a tennis racquet--it works on those dumb bees, too--LOL) Made BLT salads for dinner, have popovers in the oven.

Just waiting for DH to turn up. Haven't seen him in a few days--he's been back home, I've been down at the country house.

Maybe will do a little more mulching after dinner, but if I know DH, he's probably going to want to head to the WM supercenter (he does get on his little 'kicks', and that's been the lastest one).

I subbed for a PE teacher. So I wore shorts to the school and played outside. Not to bad. ;o) Also, there are 2 other PE teachers, so I didn't have to do much. I finished a book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night.

Then it went downhill... I had kid behavior issues w/my 12 y/o DS. I'm not going there, but it involved a phone call from the school. Let's just say I have one less hockey game to attend this weekend. That oughta make him think twice next time he starts to make a stupid decision. I guess he thought he needed to leave an impression before he leaves the elementary for good in a couple weeks (moving to middle school).

Sue, I swear, you do more in a day than I accomplish in a week.
Today, I did take the oldest dog "Nibbles" in for a short summer cut. It has been 90 degrees plus the last couple of days and she was panting just being inside in the air conditioning, poor thing. Dropped her off, did a few dishes. dryed a load of laundry, and sat on my butt waiting to pick said dog up. They close at 6pm and had not called me yet, so I left to go get her. They were running late and she had another 1/2 hour to go, so I hit the Tuesday Morning store up the street and bought the cutest butterfly yard ornament for the yard. It's on springs and has marbles decorating it, so the grandkids will love it.
Said dog was ready for pick up, and I hauled her home. She is one happy camper!! Fed dogs and cat, now just waiting for dinner to cook. Nothing special here, rice and sausage and salad.

Have had a busy day today. Talked to hubby this morning ( he's down at our house down south). did the dishes, did a couple loads of laundry and got the house picked up. Then I went down to Indy to watch our new twins for the afternoon. Just got home a little while ago. Going to shower, get in bed and get ready for a busy day with our youngest daughter and grandaughter tomorrow..

Put a couple of chuck roasts in the crock pot, then will shred and freeze. Contacted my cousin regarding our Uncle in Santa Barbara and found out they have been evacuated. Hope all is well as he is in his 90's but DD and husband are with him. Got caught up on book work. Waiting to see when GD's friend funeral is. Diagnosed Monday with acute leukemia, emergency brain surgery, but did not make it. Only 21 years old and a twin. Such a great family and really nice girls She will be missed. Mopped the floor, after I spilt juice all over it and almost had to do it again. Played games on computer and now on email. Cold and expect below freezing tonight. Guess we will get spring someday.
