Quality of Nourison rugs from Select Rugs

Hi! New to the forum, but likely to be here for a long time because I am building and furnishing a new house.

I had a little melt down yesterday when the designer at a local high end furniture/design store presented me with their best price on 2 rugs for a large (20' x 32') combo Great/Game room. The price was $25K for 2. I am spending plenty on this house, but I had warned him that I would not buy high cost rugs for this room because of my indoor dogs, roudy grandchildren, and 3 young nephews. The rugs were hand tied with color theme of ivory, silvery blue, light sage green, and a some rust brown. I wasn't wild about the rust brown, and I hated the price.

After reading an old post on this forum today I looked at Select Rugs and picked out 2 Nourison's. They are light blue, ivory and tan. The total price for these 2 big rugs is $5,500. Looks like a bargain to me - if - the quality is good.

Please post if you know of these rugs. It says that they are hand made in China. Links:

FYI, the flooring is polished Travertine.

I have several Nourison area rugs in my home and love them. Have had them 10+ years and they look as good today as when I got them. I can't speak about Select Rugs as I bought my Nourisons in a local high end rug shop, but I think Nourison would serve your purpose very well. Nourison is a well-known company.

I grew up with Marks and Spencer sweaters - the quality was great. My mom was from England and my aunt used to send my sisters and I sweaters every year for birthdays and other holidays. As a matter of fact, I bought dinner at one of their stores about 3 months ago - great meal for my aunt and I. M&S was historically known for stocking it's stores with British produced goods and I'd guess that this rug was made with local wool. See the attached - they used to develop and test their own fabrics. My aunt had rugs like that one in her home - remember that style from my early visits to England. From my memory, that's definitely an old M&S label - 'old' being at least back to the 1960s. Up until the late 1990s, their quality was renowned as being very very good and to this day, their food items are really good as well. Globalalization and the resulting importing of goods from other countries negatively impacted the quality of merchandise they stocked but they have made a comeback of sorts. If you google "marks and spencer research laboratory", you'll find more to read...not specifically about rugs, but about their innovative work with fabrics, particularly during/after WWII. Making quality items that lasted was very important in England as it was very much impacted by the war. I'd walk on that rug, if I owned it! Here is a link that might be useful: Marks and Sparks

Gee I love your room as is but I grew up with grandparents and parents who treated heirloom rugs as neutrals or givens that did not need to coordinate at all with the rest of the room. I still live this way so my point of reference may be totally obscured. I find a nice quality oriental can work with anything and is always better than a lesser quality matchy match alternative. But I do not have a perfect or even enviable house so ymmv.

i bought this from someone for$600 recently and am trying to figure out exactly how good a purchase i made...i researched what to look for in a leather sofa before i bought but had no one to ask the usual questions to such as what king of leather is this (or is it?) and how dense in the foam and what kind of contruction..it is a pebbled texture and very comfortable to sit on..does the pebbled finish mean anything to type of leather or quality? it is dated 2004. See picture of the label. And it weighs a ton..Also do you think i should add a rug in front of it or not?i found a possible one thats pier 1 that ill add picture of. What about a coffee table?

These rugs look fairly decent at a glance from the photos that were posted to their site. Not sure where you live, but if your near Southern California Mehraban Rugs in Los Angeles sells luxury rugs that look similar. They're hand made here, so you don't have to worry about whether they were made in a China sweat shop. Prices are reasonable.

If you have any doubts, order the smallest size in this design they offer so you can personally check out the quality. If you're satisfied, return the small rug and order the bigger sizes you need.

This is an old post but for anyone who is wondering...the rugs that the designer quoted OP for are hand knotted and Nourison ones OP posted are hand tufted. Knotted is of significantly better quality and more luxurious than the Nourison tufted rugs. $25K for two is steep but that is because OP went to a high end furniture store. Furniture stores ALWAYS charge double because they buy from factory direct stores like RugKnots so they have to mark the rugs up to turn a profit. Factory direct will always be cheaper and of the same quality. The hand tufted rugs OP choose are wonderful but they do not even begin to compare in quality to a hand knotted rug.

Hand made, hand woven, hand spun= Tufted by machine. The reason marketers get away with it because human hands load the yarn into the machine that makes the rug. They are NOT made by hand.
