Safavieh Rug Quality (hand-knotted) - for my FR

I presently have a tufted Safavieh rug I bought about 6 months ago for my FR. Though I like it, it's been shedding so I'm thinking of moving it to my MBR to put under the bed where shedding should be less of an issue and replacing it with a better quality rug that is hand-knotted. At the same time, I am operating on a budget and, given the restraints, purchasing online will be my best option.

I'm seriously considering purchasing the following hand-knotted Safavieh rug from Overstock.

to replace this one in my FR:

The new rug is a true 8x10 whereas the one there now is 7'6"x9'6". I think I could use the added width particularly.

Problem is there are no reviews to judge it from, though I did find better pictures by looking on Amazon and the Safavieh website and they all look the same.

I'd love to get feedback from other owners of Safavieh hand-knotted rugs (not tufted as I already know issues with tufted rugs). Any pictures would be most appreciated as all pictures for the online stores are difficult to judge.

We bought a Safavieh hand knotted rug from Overstock this summer. So far, it's been fine. I can't say though that we have it in a very high traffic area. It is in a corner sitting area, one that hardly anybody sits in! I read reviews before purchasing, and I feel like they were all positive. Good luck. Btw, I like the rug.

Well I just ordered Coleen's blue rug in the runner size for about $90 bucks. I figure this way I can "preview" the rug to see if I really like it and I can always send it back at a much lower fee than sending back an 8x10 rug. I had just bought a blue Oriental runner from TJmaxx that is "OK", but nowhere near as beautiful as this rug. I'll probably end up keeping the runner regardless. I really wish Overstock had one of these Safavieh's with a chocolate field with blue and green accents. That would really fit the bill for me. I keep reading about how fast people get stuff when they order from Overstock. Do you have to do the optional faster shipping for that to happen?

This is an old post but for anyone who is wondering...the rugs that the designer quoted OP for are hand knotted and Nourison ones OP posted are hand tufted. Knotted is of significantly better quality and more luxurious than the Nourison tufted rugs. $25K for two is steep but that is because OP went to a high end furniture store. Furniture stores ALWAYS charge double because they buy from factory direct stores like RugKnots so they have to mark the rugs up to turn a profit. Factory direct will always be cheaper and of the same quality. The hand tufted rugs OP choose are wonderful but they do not even begin to compare in quality to a hand knotted rug. Hand made, hand woven, hand spun= Tufted by machine. The reason marketers get away with it because human hands load the yarn into the machine that makes the rug. They are NOT made by hand.

I am nervous too, but for the money I want to spend I'd probably spend up with an olefin rug if I were to purchase locally instead of the internet. parma: That is what I wondered. Does the shedding ever stop or is it just for the first couple of weeks? I did find a couple of old pics of the rug running the other way. Shows how far this room has come! It didn't look right running that way either and it looks like I was not able to get both legs of the arm chair on the rug. The arm chair/recliner is actually the problem as it keeps shifting back to the wall and then when it reclines it ends of scratching off the paint. Luckily there are little plastic bumpers on the edges of the chair or that'd be worn off as well. I just had another idea to put my existing family rug in my breakfast nook since I don't have a rug there currently. Since it's an open floorplan this rug would provide a nice balance to the lighter rug #1 I'd get for the family room. I've never put a rug under the dining set where we eat all our family meals because I figure it'd just get dirty. Since I feel I've already more than gotten my money's worth (all of $60) from this rug, it'd be no big deal if that happens. No to mention this rug does not show any dirt as far as I can tell.

We already had a number of very good quality Persian wool rugs bought in NYC in the eighties (ABC Carpet and Home and other similar rug sellers), ones I bought and others we inherited from my parents, and I needed rugs that would all work together. If Overstock has the same rug but in a different size, you might find a review there.

That is a very pretty rug.

And none of the other websites where you found that same rugs had any reviews?

What is the name of that rug?

I forgot! I have a hand-knotted Safavieh, though it's a Tibetan and not Oriental-style, and the quality is great.

Ok. I did it. I've been looking for a long time, the rug above was something I settled on due to my budget, but this one really speaks to me. It was a big expense to order sight unseen with no reviews, but while I could not find any reviews of this particular rug in any sizes, I did find many positive reviews of other hand-knotted Safavieh rugs. If it looks 1/2 as good as the pictures, I'll be quite happy.

For those following my duvet thread, I should have the FR rug moved to the MBR before finalizing that choice.

always1stepbehind: The rug is called differently depending on where you look. On O, it is an Oushak heirloom rug, but on the Safavieh website it is called SAFAVIEH - Ziegler Mahal Collection. The pic on O is not as vibrant as the one on Safavieh (which is pictured above). Seems I bought the last one.

I love it! It will be the "icing on the cake" in your FR. Goes well with your art, chair, pillows.

I also liked the lighter one in your BR when you showed it earlier.

Thanks for the votes of confidence! I'm beginning to get nervous spending so much sight unseen--but it's handknotted, a Safavieh, all colors mentioned are on the warm side in my room. It shipped and scheduled to arrive on the 18th. For those following my duvet thread, the paisley duvet also shipped (early, yay!) and is scheduled to arrive on the 16th. Sounds like I have some rug moving to do next week. We're having guests over for Thanksgiving so will be nice to have it all in place before then. Cross your fingers for me!

Just to let you know, Overstock marked down a bunch of rugs today. I know because I ordered a new rug for my entry yesterday and it is cheaper today. They do have a 10 day price match policy, for in store credit only, but if you contact them you can get a credit if your rug was marked down as well. I did the online chat and had the credit in less than 5 mins - painless. Can't wait to see a pic of your new rug; it's beautiful!
