My 2 sister and their DH and myself will take Mom to dinner Saturday night. Sunday will be a mad house as everybody will be taking their Mom to dinner. We thought we'd beat the rush. I have 4 daughters and so far none have asked me what I'm doing or want to do, so I'll make my own Mothers Day. Sniff Sniff.

Going to my mom's with my kids, my two sisters, my nieces and their kids. Also celebrating one sister's birthday and one niece's birthday. Should be a fun family day.

same thing here...birthday party for dgd's #3 so will see all the kids and grands saturday...ds1 is having us over for breakfast mother's day...(not everyone can come) i don't really care...it's hard when some of my kid's spouses have multi-moms, lol...

Mom doesn't like to go out on Mother's Day, so we are having dinner at her house. I'm bringing a Honey-Baked ham, she'll make a couple side dishes and a dessert.

The Nursing Home is having a Special Day Saturday outdoors which is really a neat occasion. They are having a Polka Band and cover dish, with the Nursing Home furnishing the Meat and Utensils.

I'll probably take a Pea Salad and Fruit Bowl.

As certain as the sun rises, my first born dd who is 12 will be making breakfest and telling me to sleep in all the while. She'll gather up the crew for my breakfast in bed ceremony so they can yell Happy Mother's Day. Usually eggs, bacon, toast or cinnamon rolls, and OJ. They'll get me a plant or some jewelry, depending on where they've been I guess. I'm enjoying it while it lasts because one day they will fly the coop and I'll be waiting in bed for a LONG time! lol
We'll be seeing my mom the week after mothers day, I should take her out for a nice meal. She came last week for my dd's dance recital and I gave her a Giant Birds and
Blooms book to keep her dreaming about her next garden adventure. maybe. For my MIL, I haven't a clue what my dh has planned. I hope he has plans!

Well, this is an interesting post. Our daughter called my husband on his cell and invited us to dinner at her home on Mother's Day along with her husband's parents. There are two problems here. First, we have absolutely nothing in common with our son-in-law's parents so time spent with all of us together slows to a crawl like we're in the twilight zone! Needless to say it would not be my first choice for entertainment on Mother's Day!

Second, and more important, our oldest son is getting married here, at our home in 5 weeks. I've been sick and not able to get a lot down around the house lately and we are way behind on getting ready for this wedding! Sooooo, I sent her a cute email declining the invitation, explaining the wedding situation. Well, I got a terse little reply that said she was disappointed but that I should do what I thought I needed to do. That was it. No little inkling of understanding! Is it wrong of me to be kind of selfish on Mother's Day? If we go there it will take at least half the day--a day when I will have dear hubby and one son home to help. And, I will add, no one is stepping up to the plate to help with getting our farm ready for this wedding.

Hmmmm. This kid is always tricky! Definatley the trickiest of the 5. I decided to ignore it and do what I need to do!

Gosh Bigbaby - I personally would be very hurt if my mother turned down an invitation at my home regardless of who else I invited. I don't have much in common with either of my kid's inlaws, but I see them at functions throughout the year and they have spent holidays and birthdays in our home so we could all be together with the grandbabies. But that's just me.

This will also be the first Mother's Day w/out my Mom. It will be 6-weeks. I think I will plant some flowers at her grave on Saturday.

But I am a Mom too, and DH has asked how we should celebrate... so I'm still giving that some thought!

We don't really celebrate Hallmark holidays all that much. If we do it will not be on the actual day. I refuse to eat out on Mother's Day,Father's Day or Valentines Day.

Bigbaby I would not be able to refuse my DD a half day of my time no matter how busy I was. One day out of five weekends is not going to make or break the wedding arrangements. I would have to be very ill or contagious to refuse that invitation. You go, you eat, you make chit-chat and you make your DD happy. It's give and take. She invited both sides to her house so neither would be left out of the day. Next year I'm betting they'll just spend the day with the in-laws. Go.

Thanks for your responses. All of this mothering stuff is very tricky for me, actually. I just don't feel things the way other people do, it seems. I didn't think Mother's Day was such a big deal. I think I am constantly getting myself in trouble with my kids, especially my daughter, because I just don't seem to react to things the way I should. I feel guilty for that. You guys seem to see things in a much healthier way. I always wonder if it's because of how I was raised. Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate the honesty.

I asked DH to make a barbecue. He told me he reminded our two daughters to at least buy me a card. Last year , older daughter drew me a beautiful card by hand. I pinned it on the wall in my room and it's still where I can admire it every day.

Bigbaby I don't feel it's a big deal either. My response was based not on how you or I would feel but on how your daughter might feel. If it's important to her to celebrate the day then I say let her have the joy of playing hostess for the day.

Oh my I have to get away from the computer. I am sitting here barely able to see I am laughing so hard.

It just occurred to me that a poster who calls herself Wild Child is discussing motherhood issues with a poster who calls herself Big Baby. Oh oh oh I'm losing it. ROTFLMAO

If all goes well, I will be home from the hospital Saturday. I'll spend Mothers Day with my leg elevated in the recliner snoozing from the pain pills while DH watches car races. HUMBUG...Kathy

I'm cooking dinner for the family and for my mil. I was going to get an ice cream cake but I got requests for pecan pie, so that's what I'll make. I would rather cook than go out on Mother's Day. Besides, we're going out for our anniversary on Friday.

I will call my Mom in FL to wish her a Happy Mom's Day. I ordered a dozen pink tulips (her favorite) and blue irises to be delivered to her. DH and DS will make me breakfast, an omelette, bacon and cinnamon rolls. Then we are going out to buy a strawberry pot, the kind with the pockets on the sides, and lots of herbs. That way I can have an herb garden just outside the back door. Later we are having steaks cooked on the grill with carrot cake for dessert.

It will be 7 years without my Mom and 5 years without my MIL; my kids have other plans DD1 has to work, where DS lives they are having a cookout and DD2 lives in California. So, DH and I are taking a trip to West Virginia Saturday to play some slots and win some $$$$$ then we are coming home Sunday. It will be just a little retreat for him and I to get away from some of the stress we have in our lives. Come Monday I start a new job at 7 AM, which ought to be rather interesting since I have not worked in four years!!!

Heck yea Kathy, Move over! I'm with ya.

Actually I am in a dilemma over Mother's Day. On Saturday my life long friend (we met the summer before kindergarten) is having a baby shower (her first - FINALLY). The shower is in a a town halfway between my town and my moms. I'm 85 miles from my mom. I want to just go from the shower on to my moms Saturday night. That way I can spend The day with my mom and my grandma. Really the draw is my grandma. I can't imagine I'll have many more with her. But, I too have kids that always want to make me stay in bed while they and their father make me breakfast. They always make a big show out of it. It really makes them so happy to do that and like mentioned above, they wont want to do that much longer.

I'm so torn. (thumping head on desk)

Just an ordinary Sunday here.

I am not expecting breakfast in bed, mostly because I rarely sleep past 6:30 and my DD rarely rises before 11 - however I do know what my Mother's Day Gift is as she had to confirm that the date would be okay with me.
I am getting treated to the Monster Truck show that is coming here at the end of the month. Love those big trucks, very appropriate gift for me..now if only I could drive one.

We celebrate just about all major holidays. This year for Mother's Day we all will go to the youngest daughter's and her husband's for a cookout. Probably will eat inside. Everyone pitches in and takes food. We will also be celebrating a couple of birthdays so it will be a big celebration. I will fix quite a bit to take. Love to do that. Today I will visit my Mother in a nursing home and take her some angel food cake and strawberries plus some little gifts. Just things she can use as she does not have room for much in her room.

DD#4 and I will be going down to metro area for our annual "greenhouse crawl". Three other DDs live down there, so that will be fun. We always come home with the trunk full of plants, plus the back seat. Then when we get home, we wonder where we will put them, as our planting out is around Memorial Day.

My Mother's Day will be in mid-June when my daughter gets here. Until then, I will get a beautiful handcrafted card ( I got her hooked on cardmaking) and a phone call from her.

I just recieved an invitation from my daughter for a home made dinner and the cake of my choice at her house on Sunday, plus, she offered me a day trip any day next week to have lunch out and a visit with my sister 100 miles north. I am really looking forward to all of it!

We're going out to lunch at a buffet on Sat. afternoon because the actual day restaurants are so crowded no matter where you go. We always do the lunch a day early. DH is making dinner on Sunday, don't know what yet but he'll surprise me I'm sure. :-)
